Our Duty As Journalists
Added 2018-04-07 16:11:26 +0000 UTCAs our lovely Patrons can attest, I don't like to use the Patreon to shamelessly promote our content. Still, I do want to take some time to shine a light on those moments where we do stand up, and hold elements within our community to task.
Last weekend, Aniplex hosted a panel at Anime Boston which, well... in any sense of the word, it was a disaster. Laced with unprofessional conduct and generally childish behavior from the person behind the counter, it was one of the worst industry panels we've had the pleasure of covering. And, ultimately, it ended with a walkout when the hosts called for literal waifu wars.
As journalists, it's our duty to call out the bullcrap, and shine a spotlight on toxic behavior. The anime subculture has come a long way since the days of tiny basement gatherings, or even image-board supremacy... and it's high time that we started using our voice to hold folks in high places accountable when they start pulling stupid, juvenile antics.
As a 100% independent outlet, we have that luxury, where we don't have to sweep things under the rug, or sit through the insulting, pandering crap just to get that one minuscule news bit. We're not bound by advertisers or contacts, only to our patrons and the truth.
So... I'd like to take a moment to say thanks to our lovely patrons, for allowing us to stand up, and deliver the truth. You're amazing.
