The Editor's Desk, 3/21/2022: The New Testament

Good evening, happy Monday, and happy first day of spring! As the weather gets warmer and the days get longer, it can be easy to forget that, in just a few days, an all-new anime season will launch in a few days. And what a season it looks to be! With splashy new shows like Spy x Family and continuations of favorites like Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club and Komi Can’t Communicate, it’s looking like this spring will bring something for everybody.

That said, this past week, it’s clear that all eyes are on the New Testament. Not that one, the one with the hat.

They’re living their best life and I’m all for it.

On a more serious note, I have to admit that Anime News Network’s saga of Sol Press was at the top of my reading list this week. Kim Morrissy’s reporting on the story was nothing short of stellar, covering the company’s hopeful launch; to its downward spiral that included failure to pay staff and a total disavowal by Sekai Project; to the mysterious disappearance of founder Michael Valdez. It’s a devastating story, which has left many holding the bag, and I can only hope that the contractors and employees are able to recoup something from this fiasco.

• Coop and MadDiLAny return to the (not-so) final frontier with the latest episode of Dude, You Remember Macross? This time, they tackle episodes 13 - 15 of the classic, iconic Macross Frontier.
• Skeith continues to prove that she is an absolute machine of a writer, with her latest "Make A Musou" article. This time, she takes the world of feudal marionette combat with Thunderbolt Fantasy. In more than 3,000 words, she breaks down the hypothetical dream match-up with ten fan favorite characters, from Lin Xue Ya to Xing Hai.
