2024-08-21 04:36:05 +0000 UTCI’m also not even remotely qualified, but this does remind me of stuff from social psychology class, specifically Schachter and Singer's two-factor theory of emotion—which you touched on, about how we feel physiological responses to stimuli, and then we have to figure out which emotion we are/should be feeling, but that cognitive process is prone to error—and a study Dutton and Aron did on misattribution of arousal. They had these guys walk across a scary or not scary bridge, and they’d get interviewed by a woman afterwards. The dudes that walked on the scary bridge had an accelerated heart rate etc. and reported feeling way more attracted to the woman than the guys that didn’t walk on the scary bridge, so, they cognitively misattributed their physiological response to fear as actually being arousal. My prof was saying for that same reason, you should take a first date on like a rollercoaster or watch a scary movie, because they’ll misattribute their fear as attraction towards you...All that to say, I dunno, brains are weird and this video brings up interesting questions on how noggins work
