Good morning!

There is a phrase I have heard a lot and used a lot myself: living the abundant life.

Jesus said that He came to give us life and life abundantly. He also promised that we would have a lot of trouble in this world.

So, which is it? It is both, of course. However, when you are feeling lost or empty or questioning God, it feels a lot less abundant than we thought it would or should.

There are “prosperity preachers” who make it seem that when you “have God on your side” you will have riches and fame and everything “good”.......but, I ask you……what is good? Is it the good that the world goes after? Or is it the strength that is built because of adversity? Is it the hope that comes in spite of the darkness? Is the faith that builds under pressure?

What the wide path walkers would call good doesn’t build muscle. Most people don’t sustain workouts, healthy living for building muscle….all things that hurt at the time and bring “good” things in the long run.

If we could see adversity the way we understand how a muscle is grown, then maybe we would begin to accept it for the good it produces….if we choose to.

For me, that is incredibly hard to remember when my jaw hurts so bad and I want to talk, sing, and socialize. But, day by day, I am learning to use it to ask God, what can I learn about You in this. What can You teach me through this? How can I build muscle through this difficult thing in my life? I trust that He will do what only God can do:

“Now may God, the inspiration and fountain of hope, fill you to overflowing with uncontainable joy and perfect peace as you trust in Him. And may the power of the Holy Spirit continually surround your life with His super-abundance until you radiate with hope! Romans 15:13 TPT
