Good morning!

A friend and I were noticing that as the holidays came, we each had slowly drifted away from the praise focus that we had practiced last year! So, back to the healthy habits we go!

Just as we have to nourish our bodies, we have to nourish our spirits and souls.

What if we don’t feel like it, though? This quote in the book I’m reading by Merlin Carothers called “More Power to You” set me straight.

“If we don’t feel like praising Him, we can praise Him as a matter of choice, made by our will in obedience to our spirit. The flesh will eventually give in to the spirit, and will, in turn, become obedient to the leading of His Spirit.”

As a reminder of the many times I said this last year, there are many reasons to praise God in every situation. Of course, He is God so that should be sufficient to praise Him. But, if you need a more instant reason…..it has a dramatic effect on your outlook on your situation. When you know that God is at work even when you can’t see it and that His overall plan is good, then you can praise Him and step out of your own way. His Spirit can fill you with joy and nothing has to change in your present moment.

“We worship God in spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and no confidence in the flesh.” Phil 3:3

Power is found in the submitting of the flesh which is all bound up in the momentary feelings we have. Power flows when we look for God in all situations and tell our feelings to listen to the Spirit.

To consider: Do I wait to praise God when I feel like it? Consider saying an outlandish-appearing prayer of praise FOR the thing you have been struggling with.
