Poll Regarding Illustrations

Alright, I'll just go ahead and copy-paste this.

So, TIL about the "delivery fee" with Amazon ebooks. 15 cents per MB if you want 70% royalties or no delivery fee at all if you're fine with only receiving 30% of royalties.  Since I'm a weeb, I wanted to get insert illustrations for my novel like proper light novels have. That's the cover + 8 b&w illustrations spread throughout the book.  Taking the delivery fee into consideration if I sell at $2.99 for 70% royalties, I would make either $2.07 per sale with the cover alone ($300 to commission), or I would make $1.92 per sale with the cover and insert illustrations ($620 to commission).

I would have to sell 144 copies to break even with only the cover.

I would have to sell 322 copies to break even with the cover + illustrations.

If I sold 500 copies...

With only the cover, I would make 735 after breaking even.

With the cover and illustrations, I would make 340 after breaking even.

If I sold 5000 copies...

With only the cover, I would make 10,050 after breaking even.

With the cover and illustrations, I would make 8,980 after breaking even.

That's not taking into consideration Kindle Unlimited since KU doesn't charge a delivery fee. This is strictly for sales.  So now, the question is whether or not having insert illustrations would convince more people to buy it or not, especially those who are already free readers who have seen the story itself. Because unless featuring illustrations within the story can convince a considerable amount of people to buy the story when they wouldn't have done so in the first place, it's just not worth it. 

So the question is: if you were on the fence about buying a book, would knowing that it has illustrations spread throughout it help convince you to buy it? If you were reading a free web novel, and the author decided to publish it to Amazon with illustrations, would you spend money for that version of it?
