Disguise as a light colored pegasus and fly to Appleloosa. The height from flying combined with the light coat should negate most if not all of the scorching heat from the desert surrounding it.

Time to make use of your Guard friend's assistance, and slip away from the Royal Guard compound. There should be a road out of the camp, following it should get you headed in the right direction towards the nearest town. But stay to the edges until you are clear of the guards. Once you are clear of the guard post, maybe there will be light enough for a bit of flight time to get you further on your way.
