I have a habit of reading the previous post before posting my thoughts.... I disagree with the bribe as it feeds the "evil changelings" image. 4th wall actions kinda violate what you've been doing so far anyway. Transforming is something we've already been warned against, no go. The vines are something to hesitate on because we need to conserve love. The rocks or coin? We don't know if that would work or why. 50/50 chance. What the hell, I can't think of anything better. Coin toss.

If there are no disguise interrupters, turn into another guard and tell him he's being relieved from his post and your taking over. If there are, black vines and knock him out

While in a spot that he can't see the glow of your horn, use magic to take his helmet off and use it to lure him towards the bushes. Once he's close enough, have the black vine hold him in such a way that all of his noises* are muffled as you put him to sleep. Non-Lethal, quiet, and it gives us more time to figure out if we can save him, not to mention the guard's keys in case our friend is locked up.

I don't think the guard is stupid enough to leave his post for the sound of a single coin or rock. Use the black vine to create a more significant noise somewhere away from yourself and the cave.
