This creature is in pain because he cannot fulfill his destiny, nor can he find meaning since he continues to be sealed away by those without an open mind. Dusk/Twilight doesn't seem that way to me, so I feel like this story is going to be like chaos, learning to accept the darkness because the true evil lay in reflecting others or trying to hurt them because they're not like us.
