Where are we going?

So, with a new story coming, its time to pick a universe! This is a big deal, obviously, because I have already chosen the MC's power set and it does not include inter-reality travel. Now I want to make this clear, this is not set in stone and I am reserving the final choice completely for myself. But I really want you suggestions because who knows what cool place I've forgotten about. if your suggestion has already come up, comment on it or even just repeat it, ide like to gauge popularity for some settings.

A few rules:

~I want a world with no magic. Ki, chakra, psychic energy and mutations are fine, but no magic and mana. I wouldn't mind some divine energy here or there either.

~No anime or Manga. Nothing against the medium, just not interested in writing in it.

~The bigger the better. I'm looking to avoid the trappings of Cannon, so stories about a singular village, town or even city are out. Also, places where the main story line is so lethal that one needs to participate if they want to survive.

~No grimdark or grimdark adjacent.

There are going to be a few polls about this new story, so stay tuned!

star wars or mass effect would be good. both universe are large plenty of space and interesting characters. plus both have powerful bad guys in one form or another. so you wouldn't have to hold your charter back to much....

Its probably obvious as a suggestion but il say it any way star wars ,theres nothing small about that universe , another i dont think many will suggest is star gate its underrated in fanfic circles so a lot of room to do your own thing with it and and different possibilities unexplored before i feel , is game of thrones/asoiaf classed in the magic ? as apart from melisandre theirs no outright spell users is their? I alwas thought of warging/green seeing as psychic/mutation rather than magic

It might be neat to do a crossover between the two, but totally outside of canon? Maybe some accident with the Andromeda Initiative finds them in the Outer Rim in Star Wars? It would be really cool to have an external third party to the Jedi/Sith conflict, to really bring into question the philosophical underpinnings of both sides (and maybe pull a few characters out of the pitfalls of canon). Asajj Ventress and Ahsoka Tanno were two of my favourite characters in SW, and Ventress in particular just got railroaded into tragedy after tragedy (not that she was blameless, just... her life was stuck-on-suck.) I also think that the Jedi were a lot worse than the Sith when it came to fostering corruption, and I would love to see how they handle ideological conflict with a group that aren't stereotypical comic-book bad guys.

What about an AU version of a universe, where the main plot line doesn't exist, or exists but on pause. So, imagine Star Wars, some time between the prequels and originals, but the originals will never happen unless I have the MC stumble on them, whether that's in one chapter to one hundred, or may never happen. Same concept for Mass Effect could mean that the Reapers are just on pause, but Shepherd is still out doing stuff, maybe even with his crew. Or maybe there are no reapers, just the normal Mass effect universe. This concept could apply to any setting really. Thoughts?

Ah, yeah. To clarify my own suggestion, using Mass Effect style powers or tech, but in a unique setting would (I think) be a lot more interesting than following ME's or ME:A's stories. I like the ME powers, tech and races, but idk, I'm pretty done on ME's storylines themselves.

mass effect? or some sort of AU of halo-verse where there is psychic powers. you could go big with quasi psy/magic powers like Mass Effect, or you could go with back ground psy powers that enhance the setting but don't really play a large part because they aren't strong enough to be used as more then that like Starship Troopers.

If we are considering scifi titles, I'd throw in Stargate, the best of the the "Star X" worlds. :P

Maybe Mass Effect, Eclipse Phase, Shadowrun or Cyberpunk elements mixed with something else?

Niraada

None of them, I suppose? I prefer reading a handful of stories, instead of another new one. But if I have to choose, and magic isn't an option (why that anyway?), then... maybe Avatar: The Last Airbender? I know you used the powers over in the other story, so you are probably familiar with it.

Dull Pen

First thoughts would be Star Wars, Star Trek, or Babylon 5 other then those all I can think of is Star Fox, No Man's Sky, and Battletech.

That sounds too close to the anime world rule. I'd say manga and the like fall under that as well, no?
