Here are the last two chapters of Quest Academy. I hope you enjoy them, Book 5 comes in at just over 228,000 words, making it the second longest after Book 4.
This is not the end of the series. Saw a few comments scared of that. You've nothing to worry about!
There are a few things happening that I wanted to draw your attention to:
Quest Academy: Legacies releases tomorrow, 23rd of May on eBook & Print.
All Patreon Chapters will be deleted tonight, but comments and posts will remain. I'll change the title to reflect the removal of chapters.
Patreon Tiers have been changed.
Citizen - €5 [Advance Chapters]
Student - €10 [Create a Student at Quest Academy]
Ranked Hunter - €25 [Create a Ranked Hunter in the Hunter's Bureau]
Guild Master - €45 [Create a Guild and Guild Master]
Your price won't change as long as you don't cancel your membership. Everyone has been grandfathered at whatever tier they were in before these changes.
All benefits are purely vanity tiers, with no promises or guarantees on appearances within the story. If you give me a character called Excelsior Thunderfist 5000, there's a much less chance of him appearing than someone who matches the theme of what's been established in the books so far. I'm not trying to bloat the books with unnecessary characters, and I'll be careful to make sure that every character referenced matches the story I want to write.
Discord has not been playing nice and new memberships aren't synchronising at the moment. I need to fix this and Patreon is not making it an easy process, so please do bear with me while I pull all my hair out.
Quite a lot of people asked for these sorts of roles. I appreciate that it's a lot of money, and I never want to create an unfair paywall for readers. Citizen role will have access to all chapters I release.
It's been 5 years since I've updated my Tiers on Patreon. I've been putting this off for years, but with the release of Book 4 tomorrow, now was the right time. Hopefully it all doesn't blow up in my face. :)
And finally, a nice note to end on. Thank you all so much for the support in getting us to the end of this story. I'm going to be sleeping for quite some time after this. Expect a post tomorrow to celebrate the release, and maybe a fun little poll. It's going to be the question you've all been fighting over. :)

All joking aside, the book was amazing! I love that Sal is becoming so overpowered but staying humble. Its great that he is cares so much about making the world a better place but knows that he needs to profit from his work in order to make the guild the massive success he wants it to be. Also great he surrounded himself with so many amazing people! Vanessa blew my mind! I had no idea she was such a badass so I love how you snuck that in there! Last, live that Sal and Divinity are staying close. I feel like they are so perfect together. She gets it that he needs his space and knows they are so close she doesn’t need to worry about his friendship. They need to get married and have little ones. Their kids would be so overpowered it would be ridiculous! A skill master and myth crafter that could see the future…literally could have an idea and just look into the future to see what way that idea needs to be done for the best outcome. Cant wait for the next book!!!

Hopefully he can disconnect those and make sub chairs that link up to the main system. Or a tracker that can be standard issued to everybody to Shepherd their development. Will be interesting to see where you take this.

It makes sense that there was the tension between them because of divinities insecurities about her powers, but there’s always been a tension between them that I really enjoy. I believe this series is suffering a bit from all the potential story threads and cool ideas that get forgotten or aren't developed. I understand that life gets in the way, but the books (and Sal to a lesser extent) feel like an ADHD kid who keeps making cool promises to the reader, only to forget about them. It also doesn't help that this seems to be the point of Divinity's character as well; to tells us about all the cool shit that will never happen. There are so many characters, and not enough time to develop them. Sal keeps defaulting to his cowardice, overprotectiveness, and irrational hand wringing about fairness; which I personally find grating. Upgrade and Quest often come across as sanctimonious and preachy, only to flip completely in the next paragraph. I'm glad Divinity and Hannah got some character development, but the story doesn't make enough time for it. Perhaps if alternate pov chapters had been a thing we could learn about the other characters and the world whilst Sal is in a flow or trapped in a hospital. I don't know, I'm rambling. I love this series. It has so much potential. Each time I get a new book I reread it multiple times and get so hyped for what might happen next.

Divinity and Sal’s relationship is the best - the struggle to work compassionately with each others shitty tendencies like Sal’s poor communication and Divinity’s manipulation to cling to a desired future version of Sal. Things I am excited to see in the next book are the barrier upgrades Sal will come up with, more of Sal kicking ass at combat through his own abilities rather than just gear (although I love the equipment I feel that his growth without it is more compelling as it has been harder for him), Sal setting up more trade deals and contracts - I feel like he really needs to come up with a solution to pay crafters commission on any blueprints the Arkwright builds and Argento auction sells, and they need to come up with a catalogue of a repeatable product line they can produce - that way he isn’t undermining the other crafters and the whole crafter economy but is making use of the resources he has to mass produce equipment for the masses of heros and civilians that need it. I want to see more collaborations like he had with Chatfield in terms of finding being set a problem by other people (as opposed to the Elixir machine and Athena where he came up with the idea and the product spec himself without much consultation with the ones who will be using the end product), like maybe with the medical scanners, or through what he sees/hears on his excursions with Ark and Harmony guilds - I am super excited about what he finds to help the refugees on the Darwin Cruise ships after his conversation with Hannah. I also want to see what Sal does in terms of the scavenger network and reclamation guilds as I think that there are some really interesting crafting and skill weave ideas there when you consider the abilities of both Arkwright and Athena - like can Sal make equipment and use these Legion trackers to give the refugees without powers their own ability weaves and potential? Coach implied that he could, so that whole storyline has me intrigued. My mind keeps trying to work through the ramifications of doing that and what problems it could cause for Sal if he went ahead and empowered the masses. I am so excited for the start of the next book and to see where the story goes next! Have a great break Brian and thanks for another fantastic book!

I need you to be happy again."

I think picking up the pace and escalating the progression with Athena and Divinity was perfect. I‘m excited for book 6- and who knows… as we have seen future is not set in stone- I wouldn‘t mind if divinity ends up as Sals partner in crime. That brings up the topic of Tier progression and the very puzzling requirements. You only !!!! have to kill 1 Commander to reach Tier 7, but what if you kill 6, does that alter the requirements for other demons? Also, while we are talking about Commanders. I thought Jackal technically killed the War Spider, so does credit go to the one who contributed most to the killing?

Now my house sale has gone through I can finally treat myself to your hardbacks. After your gear analogy with the skill weaves I kind of prefer Gear over Factor. I think it just encapsulated the different skills grades better and how Sal needs to look at his own skill upgrades in the future by adding those earlier gears to his own skill weaves.

If i understand correctly now, we are still in the middle of the second semester of 6. i am very happy with the current powergap of the characters and hope you don't try to push too high too fast. i for one don't like it when the main character becomes a god in a short time. worldbuilding, relationships with each other, team dynamics and common growth plus a few (many) chapters with dungeon towers and runs would be nice. thanks for your work
