The Beagle Bugle (August 2025)

So this month I was working on stuff for the Welcome to the Pack reboot, and I had a desire to design Cruz. For a long time he was a cook (he now has a food truck), he had a Latino flair to him, and he was a friendly wolf despite his size and pointy features. So I decided that a southern charm actually fits his vibe a lot, and since he originally comes from New Mexico, the whole cowboy thing is very plausible (being one state away from Texas and being on the border on Mexico). It also gives me some unique dialogue choices to distinguish him from the other characters. As for visual stuff, I found that a cowboy hat really fit his personality. So say hello to the new and improved southern cowboy. He'll cook, clean and be super grumpy before he has had his morning coffee.

The following sketches explore how others perceive him without his "friendly accessories." You see, he puts on the light colored, cutesy things to make himself seem approachable and friendly. Inside he is very sweet, but without the right clothes, he can come off as "the scary big bad wolf type" to the general public. (That's gonna be fun doing cartoony visuals for that!)

Of course, there will those that say "Oh he's not scary. He's hot. I WANT him to be the big bad wolf for ME," I wanted to show how under all that fur, he's actually a sweetheart and it takes a lot of effort for him to act tough and scary for you. But I'm sure he can work on it...

Ultimately, he's a big ol' softie. But don't be fooled. That boy may be sweet, but he knows how to treat you right and give you what you need in the sheets. He'll even insist on giving you aftercare and who can resist that southern charm?

Moving away from Cruz, it was suggested that I draw Ethan and Gooner (stream chat bird) as Duck Hunt Dog. I couldn't pass on that opportunity. It's too perfect!
