WC: 4.K

“Hyung, we’re leaving.” Jimin was saying by the door of the leader’s bedroom. “Are you sure you don’t want to come with us? Some fresh air might be good–”

You were standing at the top of the stairs on the second floor, ears metaphorically up, trying to listen in to the boys’ conversation. You could only hear Jimin, unfortunately, as you held your breath just in case Namjoon realized you were eavesdropping.

“Okay then, we’ll see you when we get back.” Jimin said, and you could hear the disappointment in his voice.

You were crouching down by the last step as the blonde man showed up at the bottom of the stairs. Upon seeing you, he used your personal mind-intercom –that you now shared– and said:

Hyung thinks you’re coming with us. Said he’s going out for a hike in a bit, might be a good time for you to talk to him.

You nodded without a sound and mouthed the words ‘thank you’. Jimin smiled angelically and sent you finger hearts before rushing out as the rest of the pack got ready for their day out in town.

The rain that had been falling for the past two days decided to stop this morning and the sun was shining in the mountains, which gave them all an excuse to pack up two cars and drive down to the city center. You would have loved to go with them, have lunch in one of the many cute restaurants by the city square, get out of the house after being cooped up for so long.

But Namjoon was still sulking, still ignoring you, and said no to the boys’ invitation to go out. Which left you no choice; you’d have to ambush him.

Sneaking up on a wolf, an alpha at that, seemed like a stupid choice, not to mention impossible, but you’d be damned if you didn’t try.

With the lightest steps possible, socked feet in an attempt to make your movements just a little more graceful, you hid on the second floor of the den, looking out the windows to watch for the moment Namjoon left the house.

It didn’t take him long to show up at all, and you held your breath as you watched Namjoon jog out of the den, in light exercise shorts and a tank top tight as skin, as he stretched his long limbs and turned his body this way and that.

Kim Namjoon was a cruel man.

How dare he look that good and give you the silent treatment?

You were huffing as you left your hiding spot, rushing out of the house in search of the big, handsome, muscular man. By the time you reached the outside yard, Namjoon wasn’t there anymore; most likely started his hike and ventured out into the woods already.

Thankfully you remembered the way to go, following the path Namjoon had brought you on once before, hoping he took the same trails and didn’t go off track. You might not be the biggest nature person, but you could see Namjoon’s sneakers prints on the wet earth, which allowed you to follow him.

His steps were a lot more spaced out than yours, his wolf-like body able to take him a lot further than your short legs, a lot faster, but you wouldn’t give up. It didn’t help that your choice of clothing and footwear wasn’t the most appropriate one for this sport, so you had to move a lot slower or you’d slip on the rain soaked floor.

About fifteen minutes into the trail you were breathless, chest heaving, and there was no way Namjoon couldn’t hear you by now. Which meant that he was either running away from you, or didn’t care that you were so obviously trying to reach him.

You were almost at the clearing, where you planned on resting to catch your breath, when you took a wrong step.

Your right foot slipped on a patch of wet earth, which caused you to lose your balance and your weight was placed on your heel, making it shift awkwardly and a searing pain had you tumbling down to the floor with a hiss.

Fuck–” you cursed, feeling the sting on your palms as the rough terrain scratched your skin when you tried to brace yourself from the fall.

Your jeans protected your knees from getting cuts, but your palms were already burning as you tried to wipe away chunks of wet soil and broken pieces of leaves, but your right ankle was what hurt the most.

Tears were filling up your eyes as you tried to hold them back, the sting on your heel making you groan as you pulled your right leg to a more comfortable position so you could assess the damage. As soon as your ankle touched the floor, pain shot up your leg and you had to bite your bottom lip to stop yourself from whining in pain.

Namjoon knew you didn’t follow the pack out into the city, he noticed the moment you stepped into the trail and was trying to follow him.

He knew he’d been purposefully ignoring you, walking out of a room when you walked in, listening in to make sure your paths didn’t cross. The alpha wasn’t proud of it either, Yoongi already called him out on his immaturity, but Namjoon had been going through some things that he wasn’t all that ready to face just yet.

Namjoon was mad at himself for feeling so powerless when it came to you, for his inability to protect you, to understand you. He felt like a failure when he couldn’t explain all of the changes that were going on not only with you, but within his pack, his members.

The changes that were happening to him.

Some that were too hard for him to accept.

Until he put his head back into place, so that he could think clearly and as his position as pack leader demanded, he was planning on staying away from you.

But you just had to change that.

Namjoon was many meters away from you when he heard a thump, a hiss and a curse word. ‘Fuck’, you had uttered under your breath, as the smell of blood reached his nostrils, making him panic.

Omega is hurt. His wolf warned him in distress, which didn’t do anything to help Namjoon’s already anxious state. Have to find her. Stop sulking. Go to her.

Finding you was easy, Namjoon could smell you from miles away, and you weren’t doing the best job of keeping quiet either. When he reached you, just before the clearing where the two of you kissed for the first time, Namjoon didn’t know if he should breathe out in relief that you didn’t look to be in such bad shape, or worry because–

“This is why I want to cover you up in bubble wrap!” Namjoon chided harshly as he rushed to where you were clutching to your leg. When you looked up at him, your eyes were filled with water and your bottom lip was trembling, which completely disarmed him. “Shit– sorry, I didn’t mean to yell–”

“I’m not crying because of you, don’t flatter yourself.” you complained, always so bratty, even with him.

It made Namjoon smile against his own will.

Fuck, he missed you.

It was so easy to stay away from you when he could lie to himself. When he could tell himself your eyes weren’t so expressive, holding all of your feelings there, for anyone to see. When he could pretend being next to you didn’t turn him into a big mess. When he could believe you were doing just fine by being away from him and that nothing would ever happen to you.

When he could put on the act that the thought of you picking Jungkook over him didn’t absolutely shatter him.

“What happened?” he asked, sounding a lot softer than before.

When coming after Namjoon, you didn’t intend for this to be the way you caught his attention, but you’d work with what you had.

“I slipped on the wet floor–” you said with a new groan as you tried to move your ankle.

“Of course you did, why did you think going on a hike in Converse was a good idea?” he hissed, kneeling on the floor in front of you and taking your leg to inspect. He was talking to himself as he mumbled: “You humans are so fragile, you could have broken something.”

This wouldn’t have happened if you weren’t ignoring me, is what you wanted to say to him, but this wasn’t the moment, nor the place to confront him about it. Instead, you bit your tongue and allowed Namjoon to check your ankle as you tried to not bite his head off when his big hands squeezed it too hard.

Sensing your discomfort, his touches turned a little more gentle, peeling your pant leg up so he could see your ankle better, noticing the considerable swelling on the side of it. At least the skin didn’t break, you couldn’t see any bones and when Namjoon gently rolled it, you didn’t scream in pain.

“It’s probably just a sprain.” Namjoon spoke more to himself than to you. “Does it hurt a lot?”

“A little less than when I fell, but yeah.” you nodded, nibbling on your bottom lip.

The shooting pain had dwindled, leaving a dull throb in its place. If you turned it too much or put any weight on it, it would definitely hurt a lot more.

“Let’s get you home and put ice on it.” Namjoon said, lightly resting your foot on the floor so he could get up. “If the swelling doesn’t stop, I’ll ask Jin hyung to bring a doctor back to the den to take a look at it.”

“A–are you going home with me?” you asked, terribly afraid of his answer.

“You might die if I let you go alone, so I don’t have a choice.”

That was an exaggeration. It might take you a lot longer to reach the den, as you would have to hop your way down, and the floor was obviously still wet from the rain and some parts of the trail were steep, but– Well, actually, he was right.

You offered him an apologetic smile as he stretched both hands to you. You held onto his forearms, feeling their veins under your fingertips, as you pulled yourself up from the floor, lifting your right foot in the air.

Namjoon looked deep in thought, offering you an arm, then changing his mind and pulling it back, to then wrap it around your waist. You wanted to laugh from how awkward he was acting, until he huffed and passed his other arm under your knees and lifted you bridal style with strong muscles.

“Oh– Uh. Thank you.” you said as you held onto him by the neck. “Sorry.”

“What are you sorry for?” he said, looking ahead in a clear attempt to avoid your eyes.

“Many things, actually.” you, on the other hand, couldn’t take your gaze off him. “But right now I’m sorry for falling and interrupting your hike. And for making you carry me all the way down.”

“Don’t mind carrying you, little human.” Namjoon let out a heavy sigh and the term of endearment sounded foreign. “And you shouldn’t apologize for falling either, you didn’t do it on purpose.”

You nodded and fell quiet, because you hated how distant Namjoon felt, even with you in his arms. In a way, it was like when you had just joined the pack. When you were pretty sure he didn’t want you there, in his den, living under his roof. You didn’t understand the sudden change, not when you thought you were way past that.

You had a couple of theories to justify his change in behavior and how cold he was acting, but all of them made your heart clench.

Neither of you said anything else as Namjoon made the trek back to the den in record time, so fast you had to take deep breaths to avoid getting nauseated. It was a shame you were so worried and apprehensive that you didn’t get to enjoy much of Namjoon’s thick arms around you, or the way his chest was already a little sweaty from his hike and it made his thin shirt cling to his pecs.

You had to open the front door for the two of you, as Namjoon didn’t want to let go of you, and you were only put down when you reached the living room. The alpha was careful with how he placed you on the couch, grabbing a couple cushions that were laying around to prop your feet up after taking off your shoes.

The way he was acting, and how he was treating you, was giving you whiplash.

Namjoon was gentle and careful with the way he folded an ice pack with a tea towel so the low temperatures wouldn’t burn your skin, and he was attentive in the way he placed it on your ankle; making sure it was touching the swollen area, but not too tight so it didn’t hurt more than it should.

Yet, he wasn’t looking at you, wasn’t offering the usual light teasing of how humans were clumsy and just took forever to heal. He wasn’t even using soothing words to make sure you knew you’d be alright.

You couldn’t hold your tongue anymore.

“Why are you mad at me?” you asked as he sat down by your hurt foot.

“What makes you think I'm mad at you?” Namjoon answered you with another question, leaning his elbows on his knees as he looked at the floor.

“You've been ignoring me since I got back.” you pointed out, sitting awkwardly as your raised foot didn’t allow you to get comfortable. “And I need to know why, because depending on the reasons my apologies are going to be very different.”

“What reasons do I have to be mad at you, little human?” he asked with a tiny chuckle that didn’t do anything to soothe your building nerves.

Was he really going to make you list your most recent mistakes? It was a tricky situation as you could be justifying his reasons to be mad, but if that’s what it took for him to forgive you, you’d bite the bullet.

“Well. First you could be mad at me because I disobeyed your orders of staying away from Kook. I might not be a wolf, but I am part of the pack.” you hoped he noticed how your heart raced as you said that last part. “And while I'm part of your pack, I answer to you. And I didn't do that.”

“Mnhm.” he hummed with a small nod, but you didn’t miss the small twitch of a smile on his plump lips.

“You could also be mad that I... slept with Koo.” you pressed your lips together as you waited for a reaction. When you got none, you carried on: “So, maybe you think differently of me now, that I'm tainted somehow... I wouldn't blame you if you did.” another pause, no reaction. “But if this is your way of pulling out of the courting, at least have the decency to tell me, don't just ignore me and expect me to take the hint–”

“That's not– you got it all wrong. Everything.” Namjoon finally spoke, straightening his back as he rested against the couch, looking up to the ceiling. “I’m not mad at you, first of all. For either of those reasons. If anything I’m mad at myself.”

To say you were surprised would be an understatement.

You frowned as you watched Namjoon sit up and look at the watch on his wrist, deciding he could remove the ice from your ankle. It was still pretty swollen, and a lot more red after the cold compress, but you didn’t feel like crying from the pain anymore.

This time, he was looking at you as he admitted:

“I’m scared. I didn’t used to be afraid of anything, but for the first time in my life I’m terrified. I’ve been scared, every single day, ever since I met you.” he told you and you were sure his words weren’t meant to hurt you, but they did. “I’m constantly scared of something happening to you, of you getting hurt. I’m not mad you went after Jungkook, I know you’d do it for any of us. But he could have killed you and I would never be able to live with myself if something happened to you because I couldn’t keep you safe.”

“I am safe. With Jungkook, with you, with the pack.” you insisted, moving to try and get close to him, but the pressure it put on your ankle made you whine under your breath. You pushed the cushions away from under it and bent your leg so your ankle wouldn’t be propped up anymore, but it wasn’t touching the couch either. “I’ve changed so much since I got here, I might be getting to know myself again but–”

Namjoon’s pained scoff interrupted you. “You think you’re the only one changing? Ever since you started living with us, everything I was taught, everything I ever stood for… I don’t know what I believe in anymore.” he got up and you were terrified he might walk away from you now, as you couldn’t chase after him. But he didn’t go very far, just moving around to get rid of what you guessed was pent up energy.  “I hated humans. I hated your kind, for all of the suffering you caused to my kind, the wolf hunts, the inequity… I tried to hate you. So hard. But I never could, not once. So here I am scared something might happen to you. When your presence alone should be a threat to me, I'm only terrified of losing you.”

I’m sorry. I’m sorry I showed up in your life, I’m sorry I make you so conflicted with your beliefs, I’m sorry I can’t just walk away.” against your best judgment you stood up. You still avoided touching the floor with your right ankle, balancing your body with the tip of your toes. “I’m sorry I make you so scared, but I am not sorry for the way I feel about you.”

“Don’t do that.” you weren’t sure he meant you standing up or what you were admitting.

“It’s true. I’m sorry I can’t can’t make this easier for you or tell you I’m not going to choose you, because I can’t do that.” you huffed, starting to get a little worked up. You hopped on one foot to get closer to him, and his arms uncrossed from his chest as if expecting you to tumble at any second. “Yes, I am fucking selfish for wanting all of you, but you know what? So are you!”

“How the fuck am I selfish?!” he argued, voice rising to a roar.

“If you didn't want me here in the first place, since my mere existence goes against so much of what you stand for, why ask to court me?!” you accused, matching his tone.

What?!”

“Why not let the others have a better chance, huh?” your hands were on your hips as you got close to a shrill. “One in six is still better than one out of seven!”

“That makes no sense–” Namjoon scoffed.

“You make no sense!”

“Does this make better sense?!” the man snapped and walked the one step needed to reach you.

His chest collided with yours, which made you completely lose balance as you lifted your right foot and held it up behind you to avoid any more accidents. Namjoon held you tightly by your waist, gluing you to his body as his lips clashed into yours. Your only reaction was to gasp as you held yourself by his arms with wide eyes.

He pulled away from you after the touching of your lips, studying your reaction, waiting for your rejection. But it never came.

You stood up on the toes of your good foot and threw your arms around his neck. Namjoon still had to bend down so you could kiss him properly, as he was so much taller than you. You arched your back as he leaned harder into you, pulling you impossibly closer as he moved his surprisingly soft lips against yours.

All of the stress turned into heat, your anxieties melting away as his tongue licked between your lips and you parted them instantly. Namjoon kissed you as if he was trying to devour you and you followed as if you’d let him.

His arm circled your waist, keeping you against him, as his now free hand slipped to the back of your neck to bend your head to the opposite side of his so he could add depth to the kiss. Your hands slipped into his hair in response, getting tangled in his long, gray locks.

Namjoon groaned against your lips and you parted from him when your lungs burned.

“We should–” you sighed, breath knocked out of you as you stared at his lips; swollen, red, delicious.

“Keep talking?” he offered, forehead resting against yours.

“Probably.” you nodded softly. “But I don’t know how long the others will take to come back?”

Namjoon frowned, hold still keeping you close, but loosening just slightly, just so you could get your bearings. He obviously didn’t understand what you meant, making you fluster as you realized you had to be a little more clear.

“Uhm. I just mean we can go to your room?” you said, looking at his chest as his dragon eyes were too consuming. “While we can have some alone time–”

“We don’t have to, little human.” he assured you, hand slipping from the back of your neck to the side of your face. “I don’t want you to do anything because you feel guilty over sleeping with Jungkook.”

“I’m not, I promise that’s not what this is.” you held his hand to keep it on your face, rubbing your cheek against his palm as you mewled: “I’m sure you can tell.”

“Mhmm, you do smell so sweet.” he agreed, dragging his nose and lips against your cheek.

“If I can be honest… I do feel a little guilty, but not for the reason you’re thinking.” you told him, turning your face slightly so you could kiss his hand, looking at him through your lashes.

“You have nothing to feel guilty about, baby.” Namjoon’s voice was deep and dragged, which sent a tiny throb between your legs.

“I haven’t been treating you like my alpha.” you said as his nose slowly bumped against yours and you were absolutely melting when Namjoon grew this touchy. “When thinking about becoming sexual with the pack, I always thought you would be first.”

It took a lot on you to admit that and the rosy dust on your cheeks wasn’t missed on the leader as he said:

“You’re so fucking cute when you blush.”

“Let me say this or I’ll die of embarrassment.” you rolled your eyes, face growing even hotter.

“Do you think about sleeping with us often?” he teased, the arm around your waist tightening around you to take your weight from your good foot so you wouldn’t tire from standing on it for so long.

“Jooooon.” you groaned, hiding your face from him, voice muffled by his chest as you tried again: “I don’t regret what happened with Koo, and I would do it all over again. But not only did I go behind your back, when you warned me not to, I also feel like I went over your position when I slept with someone else before you.”

Being so close to his chest made you hear the small purring trembles emanating from it. His lips were pressed to the top of your head when he cooed:

“What a good little omega, wanting to respect the pack hierarchy.”

“Am I wrong?”

“It is a way of showing respect and I do appreciate you a lot for even thinking about that.” Namjoon slipped a finger under your chin to make you look at him and your eyes got lost on the little, heartwarming dimple on his cheek. “But I mean what I said, you don’t have to feel obligated to–”

“Are you trying to get me to beg, alpha?” you taunted, looking up at him with big innocent eyes. “I’d get on my knees, but I have a bad ankle.”

“Do you really want this?” Namjoon still asked, making you roll your eyes again.

“Alright, let me–” you tried to push away from him to get on your knees, but he laughed and held you tightly.

“No, stop trying to get hurt!” he complained, both hands keeping you steady.

“Then lead the way!”

You were giggling and then squealing as Namjoon lifted you off the floor effortlessly, making you wrap your legs around his hips. You hissed as the careless movement –on your part– made your ankle throb.

“You should be careful, little human.” Namjoon warned as his face hid on your neck. “That’s not the kind of noise I want to hear from you.”

Comments

Loving this so much. You always have great stories and shake it up. Though, at this stage I really don't want her to pick and she can be with all of them. So... end game ot7? 🤣

CathFiBo

Finally they talk... and well soon to do more than talk. *wink wink* Thank you for putting us out of our self imposed misery, as much as I enjoy a brooding Joon, I more enjoy a doting and feral wolf.
