Gaio ch 21

Riku knew he had to act fast to save his uncle's cafe from the Crimson Fang's grip. A determined glint lit his eyes as he set out to gather more intel on this dangerous organization.

Retreating to his small room above the cafe, Riku fired up his computer and began digging for details on the Crimson Fang. But the information was sparse - all he could find was that they were a medium-sized clan working out of Yokohama. Riku gritted his teeth, realizing he'd need to seek out more direct sources to uncover the truth.

He knew the Nexus, the notorious black market buried deep in the city, was likely the only place he'd find the answers he needed. Steeling his nerves, Riku materialized the Gaio Driver, feeling the familiar rush of energy course through him as he transformed.

Gaio tugged the hood of his cloak lower, obscuring his face as he approached the Twilight Bazaar. The neon-lit entrance beckoned, a gateway to the underground world he had only briefly glimpsed before. This building, filled with the unsavory and the illicit, might be his best chance at uncovering information about the dangerous clan.

Gaio steeled his nerves and pushed through the entryway, the cloak concealing his armored form. The air inside crackled with mana, and the bustling stalls peddled everything from rare artifacts to mutated Fiend parts. Gaio scanned the crowd, searching for a familiar face.

His eyes landed on the unassuming storefront of the Twilight Bazaar. Gaio recalled his previous visit, the old merchant Hiroshi's keen eyes and the discreet transaction that had netted him a small fortune. Perhaps the man could provide some insight into the Crimson Fang's activities.

Gaio approached the Bazaar's entrance, his steps measured and cautious. As he reached for the door, it swung open, and a figure emerged - Hiroshi himself, his weathered face betraying a hint of surprise at Gaio's arrival.

"Hello," Hiroshi greeted, his voice low and gravelly. "I didn't expect to see you again so soon."

Gaio nodded, his voice steady despite the nerves churning in his gut. "I need your help. I'm looking for information about the Crimson Fang."

Hiroshi's brows knitted together, and he glanced around furtively before ushering Gaio inside. "Come, we should discuss this somewhere more private."

Gaio followed the old merchant through the Bazaar, his senses on high alert. The dim, neon-lit corridors felt like a maze, but Hiroshi navigated them with ease, finally leading Gaio to a small, secluded room.

"What do you know about the Crimson Fang?" Gaio asked, his voice hushed.

Gaio observed Hiroshi's weathered face intently as the old merchant contemplated his request. The dimly lit room of the Twilight Bazaar felt oppressive, and Gaio couldn't help but fidget with the edge of his cloak.

"The Crimson Fang," Hiroshi began, his voice barely above a whisper, "is a dangerous clan indeed. But information about them does not come cheap, young hunter."

Gaio felt a pang of unease. He knew Hiroshi was right - the black market operated on the exchange of valuable goods and secrets. Reaching into his pack, Riku withdrew the large mana crystal and various scales and materials he had harvested from the Venomous Snake Worm's remains.

"I have these," he said, placing the items on the table between them. "From a recent hunt. Will that be enough?"

Hiroshi's eyes widened as he examined the rare materials. "My, my, this is quite the haul. Where did you come by such treasures?"

Riku hesitated, unwilling to reveal the full truth. "I... encountered a powerful Fiend in the Hollows. It was a difficult battle, but I defeated it."

Hiroshi nodded slowly, his gaze shifting to the collection of items. "These are indeed valuable. Enough to warrant the information you seek, I believe." He paused, his fingers drumming lightly on the table.

Gaio's heart pounded in anticipation as Hiroshi began to speak. "The Crimson Fang is a dangerous clan," the old merchant said, his voice low and measured. "They have built an empire on the back of an illegal drug trade, using a substance they call 'Demon's Kiss.'"

A chill ran down Gaio's spine. He had heard whispers of this so-called Demon's Kiss, a highly addictive concoction derived from Fiend essence. The thought of such a potent and destructive drug being distributed in the shadows sent a wave of revulsion through him.

"Demon's Kiss?" Gaio echoed, his brow furrowing. "And the Crimson Fang is behind this?"

Hiroshi nodded solemnly. "Yes. They have a sophisticated operation, with Harvesters collecting the Fiend essence, Alchemists processing it, and Enforcers handling distribution and eliminating threats." The old man paused, his gaze darkening. "They have deep connections within the system, protecting their operations from the authorities."

Gaio's mind raced as he processed the information. The Crimson Fang's reach and influence sounded far-reaching, and the thought of their toxic drug ravaging the city filled him with a sense of dread.

"Do you know who leads this clan?" Gaio asked, his voice tinged with a hint of desperation.

"Ah, yes," Hiroshi replied, a faint grimace crossing his features. "Their leader is a man known as Akuma Kuroishi, or 'The Demon' as he's called. A formidable individual, by all accounts."

"This Akuma Kuroishi," Riku began, his brow furrowed in concentration, "do you know where I can find him? Or any of the Crimson Fang's operations?"

Hiroshi's weathered face grew somber as he considered Gaio's request. "I can share the location of one of the Crimson Fang's known operations, but I'm afraid I don't have the specifics on where their leader, Akuma Kuroishi, can be found."

Gaio nodded, his mind already racing with possibilities. "Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated."

"Very well," Hiroshi replied, his voice lowered to a conspiratorial whisper. "There is a Crimson Fang distribution center in the Yokohama underground, near an old subway station. That would be a good place to start your investigation."

Gaio committed the details to memory, his fingers tightening around the edge of his cloak. "Thank you. This information will be invaluable."

As Gaio turned to leave, Hiroshi's voice stopped him. "Hold on, young hunter. Before you go, may I ask your name?"

Gaio hesitated, unsure of how to respond. Revealing his true identity could put Hiroshi at risk, but he felt a strange kinship with the old merchant after their previous encounter. Deciding to trust his instincts, Gaio reached up and pulled back his hood, exposing the sleek, insect-like features of his Vanguard armor.

"My name is Gaio," he said, his voice modulated by the transformation. "And I'm grateful for your assistance."

Hiroshi's eyes widened slightly, and a hint of a smile tugged at the corners of his mouth. "Gaio, is it? Well, it's a pleasure to make your acquaintance. I'm Hiroshi, and I must say, your armor is quite the sight to behold."

Gaio nodded, feeling a sense of relief at the old merchant's calm demeanor. "The pleasure is mine, Hiroshi. And thank you again for the information. I may need to call on you again in the future."

Hiroshi inclined his head. "Of course, Gaio. You're always welcome here. If you ever require anything else, you know where to find me."

With a final nod, Gaio pulled his hood back up and made his way out of the Twilight Bazaar, his mind focused on the task at hand. The Crimson Fang's operations in Yokohama were his next target, and he was determined to put an end to their drug trade and protect his uncle's cafe.

...

Riku stepped off the train, his eyes scanning the bustling streets of Yokohama. The city hummed with activity, but an uneasy undercurrent permeated the air. As he made his way through the crowded sidewalks, he couldn't help but notice the haunted looks on some of the people's faces.

Riku had come to Yokohama on a mission – to investigate the Crimson Fang and their drug trade operations. The information he had gathered from Hiroshi at the Twilight Bazaar weighed heavily on his mind, fueling his determination to put a stop to their activities.

As he walked, Riku spotted a group of young people gathered in an alley, their eyes glazed over and movements sluggish. He slowed his pace, observing them with growing concern. They were clearly under the influence of something, and Riku had a sinking feeling it was the notorious "Demon's Kiss" drug.

Riku approached the group cautiously, his senses on high alert. He could smell the faint, sickly-sweet scent of the drug, and the way the users seemed lost in their own world only added to his unease.

"Excuse me," Riku said, his voice low and gentle. "Are you all right?"

One of the young people, a woman with disheveled hair, turned to him, her eyes unfocused. "Demon's Kiss," she mumbled, her words slurred. "It's amazing..."

Riku's heart sank as he realized the depth of the Crimson Fang's reach. These people were in the throes of addiction, their lives being destroyed by the very substance the criminal organization was peddling.

"We need to get you some help," Riku said, his brow furrowed with concern. "This drug is dangerous, and you shouldn't be using it."

The woman let out a hollow laugh. "Help? There is no help. Demon's Kiss is all we have..."

Riku clenched his fists, his resolve hardening. He couldn't stand by and watch as these people succumbed to the Crimson Fang's poison. He had to do something, but he needed to be cautious. Confronting the users directly might only make the situation worse.

As Riku pondered his next move, he noticed a group of men approaching the alley, their expressions hardened and their movements purposeful. Riku instinctively stepped back, blending into the shadows as he observed them.

The men were dressed in dark, nondescript clothing, and Riku could sense an aura of danger about them. They approached the drug users, handing out small packets of a white, crystalline substance.

"Demon's Kiss," one of the men said, his voice gruff. "Fresh batch. Double your usual dose and you'll be feeling better than ever."

The drug users eagerly accepted the packets, their hands trembling with anticipation. Riku watched in horror as they immediately began to consume the contents, their bodies relaxing into a state of blissful oblivion.

Riku knew he had to act, but he also needed to be cautious. These men were clearly part of the Crimson Fang's distribution network, and he couldn't risk confronting them directly without a plan. He needed to gather more information, to understand the full scope of their operations.

Riku pressed his back against the alley wall, his heart pounding as he watched the Crimson Fang members disappear into a nearby subway entrance. He knew this was his chance to gather more information and potentially strike at the heart of their operation.

Cautiously, Riku made his way to the subway entrance, his eyes scanning the area for any signs of the drug dealers. To his relief, the street was empty, and he quickly slipped through the turnstiles and down the dimly lit stairs.

As he descended, Riku's senses heightened, alert for any potential threats. The air was thick with the scent of mana, and the faint sound of voices echoed through the tunnels. Riku moved silently, his footsteps barely making a sound as he followed the path the Crimson Fang members had taken.

Reaching the bottom of the stairs, Riku found himself in a vast underground network of tunnels and platforms. The walls were covered in graffiti, and the air was heavy with the stale scent of neglect. Riku's eyes narrowed as he scanned the area, searching for any sign of the Crimson Fang members.

Suddenly, he caught a glimpse of movement in the distance, and his heart raced. Pressing himself against the wall, Riku waited, his fingers twitching with anticipation. As the figures drew closer, Riku recognized the distinct attire of the Crimson Fang members, and he knew this was his chance.

Riku glanced around, ensuring that no one was watching, and materialized the Gaio Driver at his waist.

"Henshin!" he called out, his voice echoing through the empty subway station.

In a burst of energy, Riku's body was enveloped in a shimmering green light, and the Gaio Vanguard Form materialized around him. The sleek, insect-like armor covered his body, and Gaio could feel the surge of power coursing through his veins.

Gaio took a deep breath, steadying himself as he stepped out from the shadows, his eyes narrowed behind the glowing faceplate of his helmet. As the Crimson Fang members came into view, Gaio tensed, clenching his fist. He was determined to put an end to their drug trade and protect his uncle's cafe, no matter the cost.
