Optimization advices,extra 20-30% fps

Hi! So I tried my own scenes in VR and oh man, perfomance is unacceptable.I know that my scenes are very heavy on desktop also, bcs Im always using alot of lights, graphics plugins, assets, clothes and other details to make the scene look as good as possible.

My ryzen 7500f+rtx 3080 cant get even 20fps in my scenes,it's literally unplayable. So my Oculus quest 3 is literally a brick in VAM,even tho Steam games are working flawlessly(tried Half Life Alyx, runs perfect on max settings and looks much better than VAM)

While I was searching for some optimization solutions(wich didnt helped with VR,but worked great for desktop) I found this resource: https://hub.virtamate.com/resources/cpu-performance-patch-up-to-30-faster-physics-up-to-60-more-fps.43427/

And indeed it gave me about 20-30% extra fps, depends on the scene. So I highly recommending to try it out.

Also everlaster, the creator of naturalis gave me advice to set up Physics rate to 60hz and Physics update cap to 3(in VAM user setting),and it gave me also about 7-10% extra fps.But I noticed small clipping on some clothes in static poses, but it probably wont be noticable during animations.

PS-about 60hz-weirdly enough, fps in Tomb raider scene was abit lower with this settings, not too much, like 1-2%,but still. So I suggest to experiment with it in the scene and compare whats better.

So maybe I will create also a perfomance versions of my scenes(for some previous ones also, for Tomb raider and Gollum for sure),for less poverful PCs and VR,with optimized hair and with no lights(will use FocusOnMe! plugin by cheesFX): https://hub.virtamate.com/resources/focusonme.35993/

Let me know what you think about this

the thing with ''bigger'' creators that 80% of them are simply ignoring my messages

Of course you can lower lightts etc but if the scene then looks terrile its just trading one issue for another...personally I would reach out to people like ispinox and ask how he does it.

Best running scenes in VR as well as looking great imo is Ispinox....his scenes look real and run fantasatic....not sure how he does it.

Well, jyy's scenes often are literally empty, just 2 models and animations.I'm not a fan of that concept tbh

SneakyOne

This is a great idea. A lot of VAM scenes are just horribly optimized, even in desktop, but in VR it's completely unbearable. Look into some creators who get great FPS, like JYY and look at how their scenes are put together.

So some of these suggestions have been a real game changer. The ‘pixel light count’ increase makes a massive difference in quality in VR. I’m no expert, but I think the biggest factor is hardware sadly. I have new pc with AMD Ryzen 5 8600G and RTX 4070 Ti Super Graphics Card with 16GB Dedicated Graphics Memory. The performance in VR is pretty good with that. Tweaking the preferences can make a huge difference though. Haven’t tried the tip about CPU patch yet, I’m hoping that will increase load times.

not in my case, but you can try

SneakyOne

And does that fps optimizer file apply to VR vam?

I dunno that modified scene I was working on was dragging on fps so bad I ended up making a new one. 2 characters, limited lighting, limited clothing, got smallish environment. Still running tons of plugins. I had little luck with modifying the settings. Mostly it was extra characters and lights eating up fps. Ultimately running between 18-31 fps.

https://hub.virtamate.com/resources/cpu-performance-patch-up-to-30-faster-physics-up-to-60-more-fps.43427/This provides the greatest performance improvement. For reference, I have often seen cases where the latest version crashes. This can be resolved by using the version one level lower.

Sadly 4090 costs 2.5k in my country

SneakyOne

I optimized it using 4090. And the CPU patch in the hub improves performance the most. Loading is also faster

Very useful thanks. I will give those a try.
