“Did you know that Vampires cry too?”
So like.... how do vampires in this little universe come about? Aren’t you super curious? Well allow me to tell you!
Let me put a good old trigger warning here. I am about to talk about traumatic death, blood, and stuff like that. You have been warned.
Ok so, first thing’s first, Vampires can no longer be created. There are a set number of vampires in the world, and their population never rises. It can only decline. Most vampires don’t interact with human society positively. They only seek out humans for their blood, so there’s a negative connotation with them obviously.
Now, on to their lore. In this universe, long long ago, a certain kingdom worshipped very powerful gods. Gods that they could interact with and could actually be called upon and invoked. This nation was powerful and was widespread, feared by many because of their power and might. They had many, many gods, both big and small in their power. Now, the ones closest to these gods were their priests and priestesses. The name they used to refer to themselves is lost to time, but they were those that received their god’s blessings.
A priest or priestess receives their god’s blessing in a very... traumatic process. So, at first, they train for a long time under already initiated priests or priestesses in preparation for their new life after being reborn to their god. And then, after years of this, their initiation date comes along. They are cleaned, put in a quarantined room for three to seven days (depending on the god and their requirements) with only water and a certain fruit associated with their god for food. After that, at sunrise, they are taken to their god’s alter, and their throats are slit. After this, their corpse is drained of all its blood then put on the alter again. Here, the priests and priestesses petition their god to give the initiate the right to life after death. Sometimes a god is like, “yeah ok”, sometimes a god refuses. Becoming a vampire is also a matter of chance in this regard.
If the god accepts, they come and give the initiate a single drop of blood. And when the sun sets, their life begins anew. They rise, but they don’t just... wake up like they’d had a peaceful sleep. Waking up is violent. It’s traumatic. Their entire body is dry, completely empty. The last thing you remember, your throat being slit and bleeding out on some alter... of course you’re gonna have ur shit fucked up. And then the final step happens. A sacrifice is brought to the initiate, and they are told to drink the life of this sacrifice. Sometimes the sacrifice is voluntary, sometimes it isn’t. But the simple fact of the matter is that the initiate has to take a life to preserve their new one, because life after death always has a price to pay.
So the aftermath of this. The now-initiated priest or priestess is taken underground and taken care of for a number of days depending on how bad they felt. After that, they re-enter society as a servant of their god and so starts their immortal life. There are many reasons as to why, but vampires ofc cannot be in the sun. They will slowly burn to a crisp if they’re out there. These priests and priestesses have incredible power and speed, heightened senses and incredible intuition, but essentially have to feed on human blood every three to seven days, depending on the requirements of their gods. They maintained the temples of their gods and directed worship amongst believers. In a way, they were revered as Demi-gods. The children loved by the gods.
But a cataclysmic event happened some one thousand years ago. A violent and abrupt end to this kingdom happened, and everything was essentially lost. These priests and priestesses were now displaced, thrust into a world drenched in chaos when they had come from a rigorous, predictable system of life prior. Those that survived withrew from society and their nature eventually demonized those that were once beloved children of bright gods. This is what vampires were, and what vampires became. This is what Siradiou essentially was, but he is different in that he has a mission that he has to fulfill even though everything that he had had is now lost. But it doesn’t mean that he doesn’t get in his feelings sometimes. It’s just that,,, after living for such a long time, the way he expresses those feelings is warped. Anyway yes. There we go! Hope you’ve enjoyed unlocking a bit of Sara’s past.
