You might still end up staying later if customers left at close or were still eating by close but you wouldn’t be taking an order 5 before closing. I feel that’s pretty standard across Australia though.

All vacuum cleaner all the time! But until that happens our solution was to shout from the upstairs office down to the server in the dining room ‘Hey! Want me to bring the vacuum down?’

Three different jobs I had I experimented on sign location on walls and doors and 98% of the time no one read them, even if they had hours printed on them. So with my current server job, we all just tell the customers they can't eat at our restaurant when the last seating time comes, cause we don't want our BoH recleaning any of their stuff, and none of us servers wanna be there two hours more then we need to for campers.

She would go around and turn all the TVs off, turn off the music, turn the lights all the way up, and make it as awkward as possible while they sat there. She’d stand against the wall and stare at them. So awkward

There’s a special kind of hell for people who come in right before close, especially those expecting food service.

The last server, VERY often me had to make sure all closing steps were done. Alone. If somebody stumbled in and wanted something cooked..like burger and fries, at 2:50..I was stuck with that and the complete re-set. He tried to hire me full time, as I recall. Yeah, that went well.....for him..

She'll cash out after 5-7, write a book about the pitfalls of the food biz, then end up running a hot hut outside of Arco, ID, in the Lost River Valley, making MORE money selling high end veggies and free-range poultry and lamb from the cloth quanset hut. She'll have crystals hanging from the kitchen window. And a corral.
