121: Bad Science

That said, I'm pretty sure this video is going to add:
- homeopaths
to the list of people I have irritated in the last few weeks. The other categories being:
- homophobes (see Hot Fuzz review) and
- anti-feminists (see feminism Q&A)
Oh well. Never mind.

For you irritating people, I would like to quote Winston Churchill (I quote Winston Churchill a lot): You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life. I can recommend the Science-based Medicine blog - evidence-based medicine is good, but not quite good enough. It does not take into account what we know from basic science. Meta-analyses are difficult to do well because a) you may have slightly different inclusion and exclusion criteria, drug regimens, etc. across studies making them difficult to pool; and b) negative studies tend to not be published as much as positive studies, so there's a bias in the system.
