My handwriting is either a) ridiculously neat (taking my time, using a fountain pen) or b) like a drunken spider fell in some ink and then wandered across a page (writing notes to myself, in a hurry, using a biro) I know what you mean about the loans. Why would they even ask? Surely if you wanted a loan you would ask what sorts of loans they had? My bank in Germany kept ringing me to ask if I wanted a loan. I had been in Germany three weeks. My German was practically nonexistent. I got really upset the third time and managed to ask if there was a problem with my account. "Nein, nein, Frau Bearup!" "THEN WHY ARE YOU CALLING ME?" They have not called since. :)

I will say this for previous generations at least, they had lovely handwriting. I write longhand all the time and yet all I produce is illegible chicken scratch. I'm in the category of people who would rather save up for something until I can afford and then it all off. I remember going to the bank and them telling me that I should take out a loan for a car that was borrowed against my own savings account. Basically it's paying the bank interest for a few years in order to make your credit score go up. No thanks. I never know if I'll still be bringing in money a week/month/year from now. I'd rather just have the car taken care of.
