Shakespeare Scene Study and Other Things that Begin With S

Like 'Stressing Out' for example.

Why yes, it is an eight and a half-is minute video where I sit in my dressing gown and do scene analysis on The Taming of the Shrew. And also stress a bit because it's four days before the shoot and I was...antsy.

Coming up, once I have edited it:

- a video with Duncan and I blocking the scene in my garden and in the actual space

- a video where we talk about the process of putting physical conflict in scenes more generally and demonstrate techniques for slaps, punches etc

- probably a video on what I've learned from this whole experience

- and of course, when Bruce is done with editing, the Actual Thing We Made.

Oh, plus, eventually, a shorter and more coherent (though probably less personal) version of all of these videos for public consumption. Let no one know that I have real human feelings, you guys, it's the biggest secret and nobody suspects.

XD

If you have any questions that you would like to ask a fight choreographer, now is the time to leave a comment, as he is coming over on Tuesday (I hope) to film some stuff with me!

Yay!

I do not quite understand what I just watched, and was that young Bruce Willis? But I know it was hilarious. And also there were ninjas 😁 Thank you for this!

I sleep a fair amount...just not enough, in my opinion! It’s the legacy of chronic fatigue, I really need nine hours a night at least or I start crashing.

Thanks Gene. I’m hoping it’s going to turn out well, though I suspect differently from how it is in my head 😄

Aw, thank you! 😊

I’m sure it’ll all work out. You’ve got the drive to see it through along with what sounds like a very capable crew. I’m excited to see what comes of all this, but I have the confidence that you’ll be able to see it through to completion and that it will be creative and compelling.

You might have already seen this, but since you are fairly young you might not know about my favorite version of the Taming of the Shrew (it even has ninja's in it): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=npuPgjOYiqs

You look tired. Like, really tired. Do you get any sleep? At all? “Sleep that knits up the raveled sleave of care, The death of each day's life, sore labor's bath, Balm of hurt minds, great nature's second course, Chief nourisher in life's feast.”

Anders

My unsolicited advice is to recall Geoffery Rush in Shakespeare In Love. He would glibbly assure who ever that everything would work out. When challenged on how it would work out he’d shrug his shoulders and say, “I have no idea. It’s magic.” I sincerely believe what he said. I’ve been in many productions where my position before opening could best be described as ‘doomed.’ I kept working, put in my best efforts, and it always worked out. That’s not to say that it was always great or that I didn’t owe any favors afterwards, but I never failed. I believe that as long as you keep working hard, which you clearly are, you will end the process with your own special version of a scene that we will all enjoy. I can’t wait to see it!
