Welcome!

I know I am late to the party, but hopefully the video will get so many responses that you will want to do a follow-up :-) Alice's armor in the Tim Burton film adaptation: https://aliceinwonderland.fandom.com/wiki/Alice%27s_wardrobe?file=Alice_White_Knight_armour.jpg https://aliceinwonderland.fandom.com/wiki/Alice%27s_wardrobe?file=ATE-2-web.jpg

Eyy... Found your stuff via this video. Signed up. Looking forward to it!

After watching many of your videos on YT this is the one that got me to subscribe to your Patreon which makes me think (a) you should promote the Patreon more on YT and (b) well that was silly of me wasn't it. I really enjoyed this one, obviously, Did want to say that World of Warcraft is kind of known for insanely ludicrous shoulder armor. Stabbing yourself in the head is like the least of the sins there. Like this guy - https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/AHaGg9XNX6EbiuxmZSLtoF-1200-80.jpg If he so much as raises an arm he's going to smack himself in the side of the head with... the pommel of a random dagger someone decided to embed in the shoulders??!! Or this - https://wow.zamimg.com/uploads/screenshots/normal/26176-rift-stalker-armor.jpg which is ... a pair of fantasy horned creature skulls strapped to your shoulders??!! At least he has horns sticking up alongside his head which presumably are there to stop those skulls smacking into his own. If you search "World of Warcraft shoulder armor" you could find an entire video's worth of NOPE.

For the most part, all of the Terran infantry are pretty well armored both artistically and in lore. Then you have Ghosts who get skin-tight bodysuits because they are the stealth operatives so they get speed and a cloaking field instead of heavy combat armor.

Edward Franklin Woods

Correct - but note that there are historical examples of coats of plates with just a few large plates (as opposed to the many small plates in brigandine). Fun fact: I'm pretty sure that D&D's "studded armour" is actually a coat of plates, as described by someone who only saw it right-way-out and didn't realize that the "studs" were actually rivets holding the plates in place.

Alex Mckenzie

For my own sanity I’m going to assume it’s the sci-fi equivalent of lorica musculata, and none of it reflects anatomy 😂

Jill Bearup

That makes a lot more sense. So it’s meant to be brigandine, basically, but it’s inside out?

Jill Bearup

Regarding the armour for "Alicia Who Smiles At Death" (22:40). I'm pretty sure that's supposed to be a "Coat of Plates". (Often called a "Visby Coat of Plates", after the location of an archeological find.) The plates depicted are realistically sized, but a) they are supposed to overlap, and b) the plates are normally on the *inside* of the cloth. The latter is almost never depicted in fiction, because it looks to anyone who's not a student of these things like you're wearing a t-shirt with a dozen stylish rivets and no protective value whatsoever.

Alex Mckenzie

Now I want Jill to look at the Starcraft armors just so she can laugh at the Ghosts

Edward Franklin Woods

Oops. Next time I’ll remember Taia rhymes with Leia for sure though! 🙂

Jill Bearup

This was a lot of fun! I'd never seen that other armour of Xena's. Didn't think it could get more impractical.

Helen Ellison

at least WoW is equal-opportunity in their hilarious impracticality :-D

Robert Calhoun

Sadly, it seems that the pregnancy armor was never a thing: http://www.frockflicks.com/women-wearing-armor-in-historical-movies-fact-fiction/

Thanks for reviewing my suggestions and sorry they both are terrible - that was the point :-D it's just more fun to hear you ripping them to pieces. Good armor is just kinda boring, because if it's any good - we more or less see it in a real life already.

I'm glad you had so much fun talking about Bounty Hunter Princess Leia! ...and my name actually rhymes with Leia. If I'd realized you were going to say our names I would've left that note last time. ^__^;

Taia Hartman

As someone who's seen Excalibur more times than reasonable, Morgana wears that outfit in a military camp. I don't think she was planning to actually go into battle, but compared with her other outfits... I think it might be armour.
