Teenage Mutant Ninja Chaos Engine

Hooray, hooray, it's a wonderful day, for the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon video is edited! Hope you enjoy it (and the English dub isn't too jarring: I watched the subtitled version but I apparently did something funky with the settings when I ripped it to the computer. Next time...)

In other news, I just received one of the necessary parcels for Holiday Barbie Warrior Princess, so expect pictures in the next few days of me looking bewildered while surrounded by fabric.

It's a (slight) parody of a staple of wuxia. The world of wandering martial arts practitioners turns up in many of them and is sometimes referred to as "giang hu." It's important in this context because these are free spirits serving no master, only truth, justice and honour. They are a bit like chivalric knights, particularly knights errant. Jen feels she has kinship with them and wants to be accepted but of course it turns out they don't want her and she can defeat them handily.

I mean I did wonder what was up with that…

It just occurred to me that anyone interested in learning more about story telling through fight scenes and particularly "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" could well seek out "Blowing Up the Movies" By Robin Laws. Available from Atlas Games, Drive-through RPG and probably other places too. It examines action films, particularly Hong-Kong action films, with an eye to stealing bits from them for your role-playing game. Extra particularly for your game of "Feng Shui 2", by Robin Laws. But it also provides a lot of interesting background about the films. For example it explains what the tea house full of martial artists with increasingly odd-ball weapons and grandiose titles is all about.

Love this movie and basically any fight scene with Michelle Yeoh in it. Also, I am totally signing up for "Team Dorks in Love".

*someone* should do that. Someone with access to the fight and editing software. Someone who's channel is dedicated to analyzing fight scenes.

Thank you!

Like we're NINJAS, probably!

Everything can always use more bad puns :D

Awww :)

Am I the only one that gets a warm, comfy feeling every time Jill says, "The plot, it goeth thusly"? Surely not. [grabs popcorn, settles in]

Mighty Zeus

Another banging analysis of a movie fight! Could use more bad puns though. 😉

Jen sounds like a very expensive opponent to fight. Good weapons cost a lot. Now I also wonder how your fight with Tom would look if you sped it up a few percentage points.

Anders

Great video, thank you.
