Not to get too meta but perhaps Caroline is a figment of Rosamund's subconscious, a way to distance herself from the unpleasant things in her reality that she'd rather not, but must face. By making it "all just a story" she can suppress the overwhelming emotions and just get on with it.

As each episode is a separate narrative, it would help if the compilation had a brief break (1 second of black screen) between each episode as it can be a little jarring when they are all run into each other. That said, despite having watched each episode multiple times separately, I'll still watch them again back to back when they're released :)
