If you are looking for recommendations for swashbucklers to review, might I add; "Scaramouche"? 1952, Stewart Granger and Mel Ferrer. Wiki says that it contains the longest filmed sword fight sequence in Hollywood. 8 minutes. Thanks for keeping us entertained.

2024-03-16 22:20:40 +0000 UTCMy father always sought out this generation of swash buckling movies when I was growing up, so I've loved it for decades. Dad and I are both allergic to colorization. And yes, please, to the Mask of Zorro review to mirror this fight from the Mark of Zorro.

2024-03-16 18:49:02 +0000 UTCThere’s also a 1970 Zorro film, a new Amazon series, and the 1980s/1990 series. To say nothing of the Disney TV show from the 1950s. Starring Guy Williams?? I think he also starred in a Disney Prince and The Pauper before Zorro came out? Another source fertile for fight scene comparisons might be Dumas adaptations through the decades. From Rathbone to Chamberlain to Chris O’Donnell to Orlando Bloom Heck there’s even a Justin Chambers/Mena Suvari/Tim Roth did that might go on your wall as one of the worst swordfight scenes in modern cinema. Personally, I’m partial to the 2002 Count of Monte Cristo. And as you go through Robin Hood, there are also 1950s efforts to consider? Maybe a bow toward Rickman as he tried to get audiences to pay attention to Swahbuckling Kevin Costner?
