Easy Allies Podcast #86 - November 15th 2017

I’m not sure the Dragon Ball FighterZ rumor correction has been made, so here goes. (Huge Dragon Ball Super Spoilers) “Regular Goku” and “Regular Vegeta” are not being added. This is a failure on the leaker’s part to realize what they’re looking at. The two characters are Ultra Instinct Goku and Ultra Instinct Vegeta. Ultra Instinct is a new form just introduced for Goku in Super. The bigger spoiler is Vegeta, as he’s never achieved Ultra Instinct up to this point in the show.

I kind of understand why Kyle didn’t want to front load the podcast with talk about Battlefront 2, but just seeing how angry Jones got about it in a few minutes shows just how passionate and important this topic is. Now that EA have temporarily shut down the micro transactions and Disney getting involved in the PR disaster, I hope it will feature more heavily next week. The ramifications for gamers and game makers are just too big to sideline for another podcast.

CORRECTION : EA did reduce the cost of heroes by 75%, but the also reduced the rate at which you get credits by 75%, so there was no real change. It seems to have been a poor attempt at tricking us.

The "EA Developer" was a fake. Damiani's knowledge of Nintendo continues to surprise and delight. On one hand he is laughing with the guys but on the other hand there is this part of him that will explode if he doesn't get it right. lol Seems like such a good dude.

I really don’t get this. This is a gaming news podcast, and they covered something in the news. In regard to the second part of your comment, no. If I feel a topic is important, or may lead to an interesting conversation, then I will continue to ask, &amp; would encourage everyone else to do the same with their topics of choice, whether that be leaks for a fighting game, loot boxes, or even sexual assault claims. In my own opinion we would be much better served to strive for a community that encourages discourse, rather than attempting to shut it down, otherwise there’s not much point in having a L&amp;R section in the first place.

Do you mean the "Curious Case of an EA Game Dev..." story cause that verified nothing. The writer of the article, Jason Schreier, reached out to the Twitter account and tried to get an interview. The account holder, BiggSean66, then got super sketchy after one question. He stopped Responding, locked his account, and changed his twitter profile wiping away all mentions of EA. Is this sketchy? yes. Does the guy work for EA? Probably not. But nothing has been verified yet, at least not 100%. For all we know the guy just doesn't want EA finding out who he is. Unlikely yes, but still better to be sure.

No, it works. Huber, Ben and Damiani could be always on Team Jones, Ian, Blood and Brad always on team Bosman. They usually have regular pairings of guests, so you just need to make sure that if (say) Ben is away, you can only replace him with Huber or Damiani. If Jones can't make it, ideally he could be replaced by one of his team, or Kyle could sit out the bets that week. That might make life awkward once or twice per year but it's basically workable.

So I never know what is a bit on the podcast anymore, but I almost feel like this um thing is a way of telling kyle he ums often. Jones even calls him out on it. I listened to the last 5 minutes again, and Kyle has a ridiculous amount of ums, long and short. Now, how am I not gonna notice? Go Goldbloom imo. The end of the podcast bets should just be Team Bosman against Team Jones (their actual team name would be used instead, whatever clever names they come up with next year). I think this will be better. So whoever sits closest to Bosman will be on his team for that week, and whoever sits closest to Jones will be on Jones' team that week. And if you're scared that some people wil guess incorrectly on purpose to sabatoge a certain team, then maybe the teams should be LOCKED. meaning, Huber will always be on a certain team whenever he is on. But then again, this may mess up the way they like to rotate guests..... ummm... never mind, guess i thought i was onto something. this is too hard to figure out.

I am more hyped for Ninja Turtles being in Injustice 2. I am pretty sure we will be able to play as all 4 of them and freely switch through them using our "power" (similar to how Green Arrow can switch between his different types of Arrows).... Noctis is cool too but I feel like he doesnt belong in Tekken, seems more of a Soul Caliber character

I've said this before and I'll say it again: the reason the bets are skewed is more likely due to simple probability than the Red Eagles having an "advantage". While it is true that Kyle tends to choose certain kinds of bets repeatedly (how long are the credits, push forward on the left analogue stick, etc), so it is possible that Jones and Kyle have developed an intuition for the average length of game credits (etc). However, all the things that Kyle chooses for bets intentionally have a very high variance, so knowing the average probably doesn't help that much. Instead, I would posit the discomfort with the gap comes from the good old Gambler's fallacy. Wikipedia states this exact situation almost word for word on the Gambler's Fallacy page: "As the pie chart shows, the proportion of red versus blue approaches 50-50 (the law of large numbers). But the difference between red and blue does not systematically decrease to zero." Since winning at the end of the year is about having at least 1 more point than the other team and not what percentage of bets you get right, one team having an uncomfortably large lead isn't that unexpected. The difference in bet scores isn't even large enough to be considered statistically significant (by most common standards). TL;DR: if you flipped a coin 46 times and got 27 heads and 19 tails, that's not actually all that crazy. So the bet scores make sense to me, even if the Red Eagles might have a minuscule advantage.

Also wanted to say this, but you phrased it better. The fact of the matter is that these are (potentially if not already) criminal accusations levied at another person and/or persons. While it is extremely important to support victims of assault, it is also important to not forget this fact.

personally i think its fine considering the current state as pretty much a valid game of 2017. If PUBG was excluded and instead on 2018 GOTY discussions, theres not gonna be any traction behind it and its gonna end up like Final Fantasy 15 did this year.

I don't know if this has anything to do with the choice on what Injustice 2's devs chose for TMNT's design or not but the old school DC/TMNT crossover comics were the old TMNT from the old show and the movies. Maybe they wanted a big over-arching throwback, which is really awesome.

I understand PUBG in the GOTY conversation for this year rather than next year (even for places that have cutoffs before the 1.0 release). Unless you have a hard stance against early access, this is the year to look at PUBG. A game like that is going to have a hard time maintaining this level of interest for another full year, I think, whereas this year its a phenomenon. If that's what GOTY is to you (not just "quality" but also representative of the year in gaming), this is the year where PUBG is going to have a shot if ever. I personally wouldn't put it in the same convo as Mario or Zelda, but it's clearly a phenomenon for this year.

I have a major issue with some statements made at the beginning of the podcast. Based on the context of the discussion, Easy Allies’ official stance on sexual assault is, that no matter the circumstance, to always support the alleged victims. I agree that any sexual assault allegations should be investigated to the fullest, but to blindly agree and support the individual making the claims is not how our justice system works. Unfortunately, false charges of sexual assault occur and can have serious implications. Therefore, like any other crime, you should take in the evidence as it is presented and form your opinion on who to support based on said evidence. To blindly support one side out of emotion can significantly hinder the judicial process. That being said, still love the work you guys do. L&amp;R
