Friend Code Ep 18 - Patron's Pulse Questions

The next episode of Friend Code will be a massive discussion about what we expect from Nintendo in 201. There will not be a normal episode this hitting this weekend for Patrons or next Tuesday for public access as most of the Allies are out of town still, but I am going to try to get as many of the Allies together next week to record, with the goal of getting the new episode going up as soon as possible after recording so it still hits sometime next week.

On the docket will be what releases we expect, and we will bring up Bayonetta 1/2, Bayonetta 3, Metroid Prime 4, Retro's New Game, Pokemon Switch, Super Smash Bros., Fire Emblem, and various third party support. We'll also touch the recent rumor that Nintendo's paid online service could be delayed from early 2018 until late 2018, and will 2018 be the last year for major 3DS support. Probably will also squeeze in some discussion on the delay of 64GB cartridges to 2019 and the current state of game sizes on the Switch and how it affects third party development.

Feel free to submit your questions as long as they pertain to Nintendo, but your question is more likely to be asked if it is related to the current episode's topic and is not something we discussed in a previous episode.

- Damiani

Hi allies, growing up with Nintendo games in Germany was a blast. Especially since they took some liberties regarding translating content. For example did translator and chief editor of German version Nintendo Power (called Club Nintendo Magazine), Claude M. Moyse, regularly insert the nickname of female co-editor "Netty" into the games he worked on the translation for. One of the most obscure stuff can be seen playing Link's Awakening on the Gameboy. When you sprinkle the green cucumber-type enemies with magic powder, they grow big eyes and can be talked to. In the German version they say several outlandish things. Time to play a little game of "REAL or FAKE" with the panel. Are the following (re-translated into English) sentences spoken by those enemies in the German version of Link's Awakening REAL or FAKE? 1. "Any sorrows, emergencies or problems?" 2. "Give me your juices, I'll give you mine!" 3. "Have you met my little friend?" 4. "Subscribe to the Club Nintendo Magazine." 5. "Stop the war, give peace a chance!" 6. "Myamoto made me do it." 7. "Never without a condom!" (Answers below) Hope you enjoyed the little trivia-game. There are other instances of bold German translation that are met with a lot of nostalgia in the German fanbase of those games. For example a scene in Secret of Mana where goblins are going into a hut to watch the German soap opera "Lindenstraße" or how a lot of games reference Großostheim. The small city Nintendo of Germany was located. Thanks for your time guys! Matthias (Ma - Tea - Us) 1. REAL 2. REAL (Part of a German rap song. More align to "Give me your saliva, I'll give you mine". Which makes it even more risky) 3. FAKE 4. FAKE 5. REAL (and it's even in English in the German verison) 6. FAKE 7. REAL

Hi Allies... The switch has been around for about a full year... But Sony & Microsoft are probably working on launching new systems, possibly as early as 2019-2020. However, even hopefully with a larger roster of more universally interesting games, by that point the Switch might already be obsolete by the time new consoles start showing up- both on a technical level & content wise, with the exception of the Switch holding on to life perhaps as portable gaming device. So with no other options except to move on to the next generation, Is Nintendo ready to evolve and create a console to compete with Sony in both technical power & open creativity- that of course would also appeal to both the younger crowd and mature gamers; as well as Nintendo Traditionalists and all Passionate Gamers alike? much love and respect to MR.D and the rest of the EZA
