Kirby Star Allies - Review

Kirby's variety of powers are a joy to experiment with, but the places you go in Kirby Star Allies aren't quite as inspiring.

Been a while since I've gotten a review out, but always nice to jump in to a Kirby game. I managed to run through the game and finish before the Concert, but then with the show, meetup, GDC, etc. it took me a bit longer to find time to collect my thoughts and write the script.

This also marks the debut of our new thumbnail design. "Didn't you just do that?" you ask. Yep, I think the top bar worked well on its own, but one of the problems it presented is that YouTube would cover much of that space with text when the video is embedded and in other contexts. While we were putting together the last Game Sleuth, we eventually landed on a big bold logo in the lower left, and since then I've been contemplating doing something similar for the rest of our shows. Hope you like it because I've spent far too much time obsessing over thumbnails lately. :)

Kirby Star Allies - Review

Love the new thumbnail!

I noticed the YouTube problem with the last thumbnail too at some point. It was unfortunate, but this new one is now A LOT better. I really like it. It's big enough and in one corner, so it immediately catches your eye. Also those couple sharp corners/edges work really well for it, too. The text is big and clear and tells you right away what's the deal here. Really good job in my opinion! :)

Love the new thumbnail Blood! Looking forward to watching this review.

Appreciate the review overall, and glad you got a line about piggybacking in there. Do wish you could've explained Guest Star mode as it is a bit different than things offered in previous games, acting largely as speedrunning mode with stat power ups to hunt and remixed levels / encounters that add quite a bit of replayability since these areas sometimes change depending on the helper character chosen for the mode as well as said helper character sometimes having movesets differing from what Kirby would get when swallowing them. The Ultimate Choice is more standard in the sense that lots of Kirby games have arenas, but maybe could've shoved that in as an aside when talking about the game being easy, since as an 8 difficulty choice boss rush mode (only 5 unlocked until you beat harder ones) that's where to go if you want more challenge and aren't into speedrunning. Do think at the very least Guest Star deserved some mention beyond "some bonus modes that unlock after finishing the story", but ignoring that and considering nobody at Easy Allies is a Kirby expert or anything, I think you did a good job on this one.
