Introducing Easy Allies Clips

Communication with our community is something we want to improve here at Easy Allies. In the past few weeks, we've seen several comments and suggestions regarding putting something more bite-sized on our main channel regarding our Twitch streams that really highlights the best moments from them. It's a staple of many big YouTube and Twitch channels out there.

Today we would like to introduce Easy Allies Clips, our own attempt at bringing you a compilation of entertaining clips from the previous week's streams. Easy Allies Clips is also made largely in thanks to the contributions of our community as all the clips are created by various viewers of our streams.

This is just the initial installment of this weekly series. We want to hear your feedback regarding how we can improve it. Most importantly, this is something that all of you now have a large role in helping make. We hope this encourages more viewership of our Twitch streams and leads to many more clips made by our community that will eventually find their way into this highlight reel each week.

Edit: For the next video, we will lock credits in the same space in each clip and use a lower third graphic so it shows up better. Also, we will include links to the source VODs in the description.

L&R,

- Damiani

this is awesome

Mugen Himura

Love this. As an East Coast-er who can't follow some of the streams, I appreciate a video that helps me see which archived plays I should check out on YouTube.

Cloisterance

What a wonderful idea. Thanks for this! I’ve often felt a little out of the loop (“why is everybody saying ‘gah’?!”) and this idea feels very inviting.

Matt McCarthy

I love concept of this video. With sheer amount of content being produced by Easy Allies, this video provides what fun things are going on especially when we do not have enough time to check each one of them.

There's a title card at the end that includes the address to our Twitch channel (which we can't link to unfortunately) as well as links to Easy Allies Plays, the Patreon, and the Checkin' Out playlist. If you're referring to what YouTube shows as recommended videos after the video is complete, that's entirely under their control. -Bloodworth

Easy Allies

Not sure how youtube works, but it'd be nice if at the end it would suggest the related videos on https://www.youtube.com/EasyAlliesPlays that the clips are from. Basically there should be something that would allow someone to easily find the full stream version if they are interesting in seeing more.

The original twitch clips work just in this way. They even go on auto-repeat. Just check our clips page on our Twitch channel. A ton of people watched Ben's Far Cry wolverine clip. -Bloodworth

Easy Allies

Can anyone think of an easy way to share an individual clip with someone? Youtube timestamps are my only idea, but it's not great because the video continues after the specific clip ends, and also they don't work great on mobile. I'm thinking, just like games that are very giffable, making it easy to share single clips could be a great way to spread the word.

LOOOOOOOOVE this! Can't wait to see more!

peptide

Love it!

Domino Hurley

This will make the missing of the now absent brilliant weekly dose of somegamenews compilations vids a lot easier. Like this it should be less work to put them out, but pretty brilliant idea nonetheless and a necessary rendition to the channel.

Johan

Oh boy. There was more during the HP stream.

LeeLore

Agree! Branding important.

LeeLore

GREAT!!

Sonny Laguna

As someone who misses most streams due to timezones and such this was really good. If not for this I would have missed Kyles complete breakdown due to harry potter... and Kyle cheating as usual :)

Mazrim Taim

LOVE IT MY DUDES! I NEVER get to see the streams so this is huge! A quick high light burst for things I'd otherwise never see!

Raven Perez

This was SO amazing. The one thing that I would say could use some improvement is the weird cuts on some of the clips, like some of the clips seem to end a tad early or in the middle of a sentence. Sometimes that can't be helped, but for the patrons/allies/viewers who are clipping, going forward, leave a little extra on the tail ends of the clip. Leaves some room for edits. Unless EZA just takes the clip as is and puts it in. Then eh, I don't know.

POKEY CLYDE

I really enjoyed it! Really good addition!!

Wonderful addition.

Justin Greene

It's a fantastic idea. If it's not too hard, I think you should add links to those video under so that if a clip interest you, you can watch it quickly.

This is excellent and seems like a natural progression. A nice collection of clips that can entice people to give shows a chance.

Bells aka Caprica

Great idea

VGJunky

I LOVE THIS!

Chris Georgaras

This is a wonderful idea. I love it, as somebody who is always at work while you guys stream, I work second shift, I just don't have time to watch your VOD's especially during baseball season as I DVR every single game of my local team and watch when I get home.

Brian Kargela

Love it. Even as someone’s who watches a lot of the streams fully, I still love rewatching the highlights. And it’s something that’s easy to share with others what makes EZA streams/group dynamics so great. I do agree that the font used for the user who clipped it needs to be reworked.

Greg Kettering

Very good idea! I think Easy Allies Clip and Checkin' Out are way better for youtube, than hours-long streams.

MaxVSTheGames

Finally! Very good idea. More work I know, but it's all going to lead to more viewership. I truly believe this. Great job guys! And thanks to the community for the contributions.

LeeLore

For the names I would choose a different font and maybe put it in a solid colored box so that it doesn't blend into the background so much. Very good idea though! Great way to encourage community interaction.

klastical

Please involve somegamenews in this. Their YouTube channel already did a great job compiling great clips of your shows and streams.

bigdaddymars

Some of us already made clips for our own personal fun of capturing moments before, and now that you can get your name in an official EZA video I'm sure that'll give incentive to others who have never clipped stuff before to try it out. The interface is fairly easy, and there's usually people lurking in the Twitch Chat to help any first timers with any issues they're having with it. There's even a newish Twitch Badge for having lots of popular clips on a channel each month! I just wish Twitch would let the users stitch separate clips together as sometimes the scope of the clip worthy bit or moment plays out over a minute apart, which is the current limit for clips.

MBUN

Really like this idea. I very rarely get to catch EZA streams live due to time zones so this will help me catch some of the best moments, as well as know which streams are worth catching up with. Good stuff Damiani.

Bynoe

Yoooooo just done watching this. I consume a lot of them streams, the one I can't watch live I just use twitch replay or youtube archive (thanks mr blood). And this is a GREAT IDEA !!! I hope many people from youtube will come over an join us on EZA Twitch channel, so many good streams, so many unique moments, a lot of chatting with fellow allies and chat residents. So yeah 10/10 idea !! Thanks to all the clippers !!! you are the real MVPs !! ezaDirtyDon ezaLR

tahitianwarrior

I rarely get to watch the streams, so this is perfect!

I like this concept a lot, but the presentation of the clips could be better! Not only should you put a semi-transparent grey background on the name of the user who created/submitted the clip, but the font should consistent with EZA and also have the name of the clip. Other than those, I really like that you're taking time to engage the community in this way!

Marceline Leiman

I barely manage to watch any streams at all, so this is perfect for me. Thanks guys!

Christoph Zürcher

Great!

Fantastic!

LOL at Damiani throwing the penguin off the cliff! Damiani, you monster!

Terrence Kiser

I love this!

This is great and with people sending in clips, we're more likely to see more of the best bits! One thought, why not get SomeGameNews on board in some way, seeing as they have been doing this kind of thing for a year now on their own youtube channel with Easy Allies content?

Ben Bernard-Smith

Yeah, it's hard to know why Ben was so stoked to kill Neclord from that clip because it doesn't show how much of a last ditch hail mary it really was. Hopefully the community will be mindful of this and add as much context to the clips as they can.

Best in the biz!

ZatVunDoot

This is terrific. It'll encourage chat to clip more frequently and help the community feel more involved in content, rather than just through podcast questions and the like. Agree on the font/username issue, but other than that, I love it. A welcome addition.

Love this idea

Brandon Ray

Good call!!

Brad Russell [Toukz]

This made me smile for sure. :) Hopefully this'll give a lot of people an easy peek into your (or our!) world. I agree with some, though, that the font for the names could be changed a bit for the future compilations.

Ville Ranto

Annotations aren't a thing anymore unfortunately. It's have to be a video link in the top-right corner or a list in the video's description. Having links of some kind to the relevant EZAPlays video is an important thing though. The point of a Highlight Reel is that it feeds viewers into your other content, showing them things they might be interested in.

Harrison Holt-McHale

Great idea. Only semi-worrying thing is that it relies a lot on the viewers actually creating clips. Perhaps the modding team could get together and have some kind of clip-making course so there's always someone prepared to get those hot clips.

Olf Himself

Absolutely love this idea!

navyblueprince

I love this! Especially as a way to get the community involved in EZA content. Hopefully this encourages the community to take some really excellent clips. Some of these come in too late, or cut off to early, for a viewer to really understand why the moment was funny in the first place. As a pilot, it's good, but a bit rough. It definitely feels like a collection of piecemeal "bits", rather than a highlights package.

James McCoy

SO happy and excited by this! I hope get to see one every week. Great job gang!

Awesome idea - I'm into it. I don't have time to watch Twitch streams, but seeing these types of moments cataloged so I can still get in on the fun / relive those moments is great.

Steven Jenner

I support this! Just think that add the name of the game being played as a small caption (alternatively timestamps in description) are a good thing to add!

Sebastian Hall

As someone who can't get in really any of the streams anymore I think this is an excellent idea so I don't feel like I am missing out on the jokes and bits.

Rory McGuire

I dig it! I agree with some other people are saying about putting the username in the same place for every clip and making it a bit more readable. Also if it isn't too time consuming, maybe considering putting the name of the stream/vod in there somewhere? Would help if we like a clip and want to see the whole thing

faqsimil

I like this idea! I think chat (chaaaat?) has been pretty good with clipping stuff and it's nice to have those moments seen by more people. And obviously it requires a LOT less effort than a full-blown somegamenews-style 'best of'

Samuel Cardwell

I don't get to watch every stream and love that this is happening. Even with the streams I do watch I never clip the parts I love or find hilarious because I didn't really have a reason to; now I will! I actually think the font could be a lot smaller for the credit part and in a consistent place. Giving credit is nice but personally I think it should be about wanting to share the clip and not possibly an incentive to get ones username in the video. Ditto the suggestion for dumping all the clip links in the description so that people can keep watching if they want!

sirvorn

It may be more work than its worth, but at some point, including a link to the relevant EZAPlays archive with each particular clip as an annotation (or more realistically, just as a dump in the description) would be nice to have. Clip collections in general are very easy to binge, so if someone comes to one later it'd be nice to give them a link to the relevant stream archive rather than having to search through a backlog on the EZAPlays channel.

Bradley Spies

I like this. I imagine it is trying to be done quick and dirty for maximum ROI, but perhaps a frame with the "Clips" name, "Easy Allies", and the "Clipper" might work best to unify the look of the series. But overall, great job! -Rick

Cool idea

Joseph Field

Glad this is fundamentally different than what SomeGameNews does. Otherwise I'd be a bit off put - I get "that's business" but if anyone deserves to be a contractor or something it's them.

Hudson Bilbrey

Very good and not very time consuming idea. Step in the right direction in terms of shorter videos on the YouTube Channel as well. All the boxes ticked.

I see other people doing this for you all over Youtube, which is pretty cool. Did you have them help out with this? I'm sure they would be happy to help.

Tyler Travis

Very happy to see this, and be able to get a sense of what's happening on Twitch when I don't have the time to watch the streams.

Eric Mitchell

but isn't that a doble edge sword? while we may have the best moment, on the other hand, twitch will be flooded by the same clip just to have the recognition in the video, it would be nice, but i don't think it's necesary

Daniel Garza Andrade

Yes yes yes this is great!

Brandon Robinson

Love it, great idea! Sometimes I don't have time to watch the whole stream but getting something bit sized would be great to watch in a single sitting.

TravelingSnowman

Genius! Keep em coming.

Benny Samuelsson

Hire somegamenews

Andreas Kleanthous

Oh man, I love the idea! I’m not the kind of person to watch streamings but watching highlights is awesome!

Gabriel Indriago

Curated Twitch Clips is a pretty good idea. Encourages community participation. Only suggestion is to place the user who did the clip in the same spot every time, and use a more recognizable font. Perhaps use a splash screen between clips with the users name and the stream title and game. The cuts between the clips were a little too quick and jarring.
