He has limited access to other more powerful spells and abilities, but the effect of the magical staff has powered up his Cantrip Eldritch Blast, which he is indeed using correctly as it is a 0 level Warlock Spell he's chosen as a Cantrip as this allows him to cast it infinitely, to be a very powerful spell in it's own right despite being a level 0 spell.

Could a D&D pro please just confirm to me that Ian has the right grasp of warlock spell abilities, can he really only use Eldritch blast all the time?

Correction: Necrotic damage can indeed be healed normally unless the spell that deals it specifically says it can't, usually by temporarily reducing a creature's maximum hit points. Necrotic itself is simply a damage type, which some creatures might be resistant or weak to.

Just a thought on Villiund (spelling?), why does he use only one light hammer? I can understand if Villund has a shield, though that still doesn't explain why he doesn't have a "martial" weapon ("light hammer is a simple weapon). If he had two of them, he would at least be able to land one more attack (as a bonus action) with the off-hand weapon. Really though, he just needs a better weapon. Honestly, I feel like a flail would really suit Villiund.
