Hall of Greats - New Rules Vote!

Next week's group stream will indeed be another induction ceremony of the Easy Allies Hall of Greats. Before we get there, we'll need to settle two things:
- Can the Easy Allies vote for their own submissions? This will be decided by a poll posed to all patrons this Sunday.
- How should the votes be tallied? This will be determined by you, the Group Stream Selection Committee.

To be clear, the voting process will be almost identical to the last Hall of Greats, but the vote counting, in which we each tallied the votes for our own games, didn't sit right. Now it's up to you to think of our new vote counting process. We could have each person choose which game they'd like to tally, Damiani has offered to count all votes himself and reveal the results to the group, or you could have some practical idea we never imagined that's actually the perfect thing. This won't be a part of Sunday's poll; the comment with the most likes will become the tallying method we use this Tuesday. Note: Anything intentionally annoying, overly cute, or particularly extravagant is likely to be vetoed. Just try to think of what would make for a quick, entertaining process. Disagree. I don't want them actually voting on games. I want them voting on the presentations made by other allies. The games are just the substrate for the argument. Like, if it was really about the games, then who cares? We basically know which ones would win each time, and could probably construct a fairly accurate Hall of Greats for the allies without them arguing anything. But it wouldn't be fun. The fun part is the sport of it, not the winning or losing or the game on the line. The games are just there to facilitate the presentations. And Ultimately, I want them voting on those presentations, which means they really shouldn't vote for themselves

I just want to put Ville Ranto’s and Nicholas Poer’s great suggestions together, just to make it official: Vote like the last time. One by one before the camera, stating your reasons to the audience. Damiani/Amanda should read the results for the group, starting from the game with the least amount of votes. When you reach the top three, announce the game that got the most votes. The “first inductee”, if you will. Then you have two games going head to head for the #2 spot and the suspense builds up more. Announcing #3 earlier kills it right away.

Great suggestion, although the only problem I see with the first part is that the votes will be way more spread out, making the "mechanic" (I guess one could call it) of a game getting no votes getting banned from appearing for a year pointless. Which is due to the ability to be more generous and give kudos to a bunch of games one likes. On the other hand having less games go without votes and therefore less banned games as well as having votes be more spread out as a result instead of landslide victories, may be better overall.

Agree with this. I enjoyed that style of voting!

I want honest votes. I want the Allies to be true to themselves. They should be allowed to vote for their own game if they truly believe in it. Even if they up the only ones voting for it and their game gets banned for a year. Voting for their own game was NEVER an issue at all.

Also, when an ally decides not to make their own game the top spot (or even not vote for it at all!) it's pretty hype.

I think the previous method was good for the most part. The only changes I would propose are: 1. Give each Ally 6 tokens. They can only give a maximum of 3 to one game. That way they have more options with going 3-2-1, 3-3, 3-1-1-1, 1-1-1-1-1-1, etc. It'll also offer a route for those who don't want certain games to be barred for a year at the expense of their counterbalancing those who passionately want certain games to get in. 2. When reading out the results, the "runner-up" should be announced. It's an idea I'm cribbing from pageants but it's always felt more dramatic to me when you're down to A vs B that you say something like "And second place goes tooooo" over "And the winner iiiis".

Seconding this. Confessional Camera combined with this method would be the best way. If you want to get fancy you could make special cards (with box art or title printed on it) beforehand rather than just writing them on paper, and give each ally a deck with each game on it.

To help tally the votes I made a simple survey that the Allies could use on the night. <a href="https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/376MJ85" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/376MJ85</a> Survey Monkey is great for making easy surveys, you should have no problem recreating this one yourself. You can just send the link around to the Allies on Slack and get them to bring it up on their phones during the Confession Cam.

Love it. Could use an old brass balance scale to weigh each bag of weights(quarters?) and the game titles could be hidden in the bags(or not). Could repeat for 2nd, 3rd, and so on.

Long as the confession cam stays. That Don scenario was brutal though. Avoid any version of that.

I love the confession cam for voting. But the person shouldn't count their own votes. It was too cruel when games didn't get any votes and they had to reveal it themselves (See Don last time). It should be done by Damiani

Instead of putting your numbers in bags representing the games you could put a piece of paper with the game name in a box representing the points. That way you could go through the 1 point box, them the 2 point box and finish with the 3. This means the votes could be tallied live without spoiling the vote and without own game cruelty. Leaving the 3-scorers until the end would be pretty exciting too. Also it means allies can't tell how well games are doing based on the weight of the bags. 😊 L&amp;R

I say let each of you tally another’s game but who’s game you tally you have to draw for it just as you do when you decide an order. For example Kyle is the last one to reveal his pick but the first one to draw for the tallying and then whoever he picks can go from there so on and so forth until your done.

Seems to me that the main issue with bags and chips was that allies that voted later could tell what previous allies voted for by the weight of the bag. Instead, have one big bag or box, and have chips/cards for each game. This could be color coded chips, or it could be as simple as paper slips where the ally writes what game and how many points they are giving it. Then at the end someone pulls out the results and tallies up the winner.

The Allies whose games were inducted in the previous Hall of Greats should tally the votes so that it doesn't end up being the same people each time, and I think having a pair of Allies do the counting will make the process smoother.

Also, allies should 100% be able to vote for their own game. If they believe their game is better than others submitted -then they should be able to vote for it.

I propose a *SECRET COUNTING LOTTERY* The Ally that wins the last group stream tournament before the HOG draws the name of the person who's counting it BEFORE the vote, but doesn't reveal to anyone who's counting until AFTER. To be fair, since this is the first one, the reigning betting special champ, Ultima Brad, draws the first name.

Same rules as before except for the following changes: - Shoeboxes with slots cut into the lid to avoid peeking. - Shoeboxes should be filled with a certain amount of fake chips to mask the sound difference between empty and full boxes. - Trying to gauge the number of chips in a box by any means (picking them up to feel the weight, looking through the slot, etc) invalidates the contestant's votes and disqualifies their game. - Contestants have to share their thoughts about all eligible games during the voting process and explain why they pick the one they're voting for over the others. - The Myst-Should-Have-Won Rule: If allies haven't played a game, they should take the quality of the contestant's presentation of said game into consideration when casting their votes.

One advantage with the slips of paper is that you can use the same boxes over and over again because you're not writing anything on the boxes.

I was thinking of something very similar to Eric Grynberg, but I think with enough differences to post it: -Use boxes instead of bags with just a slot to insert the werehogs and a way to open the box to empty it [weights to mask the chips are also a good idea] -Write the names for each game on a slip of paper that is attached to each box -Each Ally votes the same as last time, on camera, giving reasons, inserting werehogs into the boxes -The last Ally to vote removes each slip of paper, folds it up, and puts it in its respective box, then mixes up the boxes -[Possibly another Ally comes in and also mixes up the boxes for maximum secrecy] -The boxes are each emptied, but the paper is not unfolded, and they are lined up from least votes to most votes -The papers are then unfolded from least to most (or whatever order) to reveal the winners (Maybe the easiest way to make the boxes would be to just buy some cheap, but opaque, tupperware and cut a slot in the top)

Agreed on Damiani reading off the games until they get to the final 3, then they need to remember to reveal the #1 game before revealing which games are #2 and #3, so it keeps tension until the end, instead of revealing #3 right away and immediately leaving it to process of elimination.

NEW PROCESS: (Edit: Now with an image to explain the process <a href="https://i.imgur.com/7oXk4QW.png" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://i.imgur.com/7oXk4QW.png</a> ) - Put some weights to mask the voting chips. - Use ballot boxes instead of bags (by that I mean a more rigid container that can't be squashed or peeked into). - After the process, tape the names in the ballot box. Get it hidden but still possible to take the tape out and see the name (any other method of concealing the name on the ballot box is possible) - Randomly assign each box to one ally to count - From any order you think it's good (probably from last to 3rd, and when it's between the two first places, the first), take the tape out. (There's a lazier way to do this if you don't want to buy/make anything. Just put the bag inside another bag.) (Edit 2: I just remembered that two games get into the HoG! Make it between 3rd and 2nd place. Maybe reveal the first before that)

I am one of the ones who think the allies shouldnt be allowed to vote for their own game, mostly because this will make them choose a game that is truly a great meaning that is not only a favorite of the person who choses it but it has to have mass appeal.

Vote for your own game with your own EZA Tarot Card; use Chips for the rest and keep the brown bags like last HOG Stream. Simple.

I was going to say something similar to this, as it is like the end of Mario Party where each player gets sucked into the vortex starting with the lowest votes and leaving the highest. Voting for this.

I do like the drama of Damiani counting the votes (perhaps while Jones opens presents) and revealing the counts in reverse order at the end of the stream.

Each Ally should be allowed to still vote on their own games. Not only does changing it make the last 4 HoG's voting questionable (in my opinion), it's also never proved to actually be the problem some think it is. Personally I think we should all just accept the good ethical practice of voting as it is and move forward as before.

Bags and chips are great. Line them up and have one ally remove one chip per bag. If he removes the last chip, eliminating that game, he politely folds the bag up, hands it to the nominator, and says "good game." When two bags are left standing, the allies simultaneously say "great games."

I don't have a problem with allies voting for their own game. Keep the voting as it was initially. Everyone gets 1 2 and 3 points to hand out. Go through each game, allies must close their eyes (if they can get blind folds that would be great).

Allies are not allowed to vote for their own submission. That way the votes can be evenly distributed among the other submissions. Amanda counts the votes.

What if the person who brings the game nominates a person to read the votes? Like a surrogate.

Vote with different colored chips/rocks/whatever if it is for your own game. Then tally the chips in each box. I say box so that you cannot see what has been voted for already.

For tallying, I recommend a weight “face off”, in which a given ally chooses two games which are then weighed against each other (with the heavier staying as representative of more votes). Could be a fun and entertaining way to reveal the winners. You could call it the “scales of greatness” (like the scales of justice).

SAVE TOKENS: Each ally will have a personalised ‘save token’, which allows them to save one and only one game from being banned for a year WITHOUT counting as a vote. (A slip of paper with your name on it will suffice as a ‘token’). This is a way of acknowledging an excellent presentation or a sentimental favourite. Obviously, you can’t vote for your own game, which is why the tokens have to be personalised. You also don’t have to ‘save’ any game if you don’t want to. THE TWIST: if (and only if) EVERY other ally votes to save the same game, that game is inducted into the Hall alongside the two regular winners.

I don't think people should vote for their own games, nor count their own game's votes. It's just so sad to see someone open their bag to one/zero chips :( Edit: No voting for one's own game, shift tallying one person down the line so you don't count your own game's votes.

Tournament style. Every chosen game goes up head-to-head against another chosen game, and the Allies must choose which one they want to progress to the next round. Each Ally gets one vote per round. An Ally CAN choose their own game.
