Cup of Jones - 03/13/18

One last Cup before we turn TWO! It's one of the biggest weeks of the year for us. We're celebrating our anniversary in a variety of ways (Concert, meet-up, livestream) but I'm also anticipating big review projects like Sea of Thieves and Far Cry 5 to cap off the month. It feels good to (almost) have the Souls Retro behind me.

Cup of Jones - 03/13/18

Comments

Hey Jones, Congrats on two years of EZA! I hope the third year will be the best yet. Also, any thoughts on the live action Winnie the Pooh movie or maybe Winnie the Pooh in general?

GenWoofles

How about a quick Cup of Trailer Jones, cause I'd love your thoughts on the new Avengers: Infinity War trailer.

I remember somebody a long while ago was keeping track of the questions in a spreadsheet, but I don't even know if that is still going on. Maybe Jones reading the question will cause it to resurface.

Parasitepaladin

Hi Jones! Everybody has favorites, color, food, season, book, movie, etc. And various video game related things like, game, controller, console, genre, series, etc. Which of the other eight allies do you know the most favorites of? And of course, what are they? P.S. While that GameTrailers book is far, far away, I just wanted to suggest that maybe you take some notes on the very early days, just to be safe. Memory is a fleeting thing, you know?

Parasitepaladin

Hi Jones, have you had time to watch the new tomb raider movie, any thoughts about it?

bjørnar haraldsvik

Hello Mr Jones, Another big fan of Quantum here. Sam Beckett and his moral compass is what drew me to the show. The series started almost thirty years ago and wasn’t afraid to tackle difficult issues like treatment of women, racism and sexuality all which are still relevant today and through it all we have a character who would fight for what’s right even when it’s easier to follow suit with everyone else. Sam Beckett was a role model for me growing up and taught me to respect all people and not to prejudge. I hate to admit this but my family has misconception about certain races and although I didn’t completely share their views it was this show that made me stand up and tell them it’s not right. Decency, caring and respect is what I took away from the show and I’m thankful for it. It was also entertaining and I also loved the whole time travel aspect. I’m curious to know what you liked about the show?

Okay Brandon it's time to get serious. I want to talk about Wayne's World. It was mentioned on last week's Cup of Jones and a thought had popped into my head the last time I had watched the film. I have seen the movie many times and always have been entertained but now in this day and age of Podcasts and Twitch Streams and Youtubers and Patreon with creators asking support from viewers for artists they love, Wayne Campbell comes off like a real jerk when it comes to having a sponsor like Noah's Arcade. Most people would kill to have a sponsor like that. Wayne feels like having the owner of a prominent successful arcade being a guest on his show spoils the integrity of his lame closed circuit aimless tv show. Noah Vanderhoff and his wife seemed like really nice people and Wayne went out of his way to be a jerk. Did Wayne bother asking Garth or any of his Friends that worked on the show if they need monetary assistance or you know Payment for their hard work? As a creator and podcaster myself I am truly ashamed of Wayne Campbell's behavior when I re-watch Wayne's World. Wayne is no longer the hero in my eyes but an entitled jerk. Now my question for you Brandon is would EZA accept Noah's Arcade as a Sponsor of the Podcast? "No Way!" or "Yes Waaaay!" ;)

Jason Walstrom

Hi there Jonesy! I just wanted to stop by to say how much I enjoyed watching the EZA Concert last night. So much incredible music and don't even get me started on how wonderful Box Peek was. I know it still feels fresh, but I was curious if you have any immediate thoughts on how it went and anything you want to improve upon for next year's concert? Hoping I can make the trek for year 3. BTW HAPPY BIRTHDAY EZA. Love and respect always.

Kate Bishop

(Pronounced: "Kenny + A. M. R.") Hello, I have a quick question. Besides making the "EZA Podcast" available for patreons 2 days in advance, would it be possible to also stream it live, just like "Cup of Jones" on YouTube? It would be interesting to have some live interactions with chat but it may be difficult for you. Either way, amazing job guys, congrats on your 2nd anniversary.

Kenny Montenegro

Morning. If a new ally join the team as a full time member, how do you think you would announce that? A build up over many days or weeks? Waiting for a special occasion, like an anniversary concert or a Easy Livin? Or just on a regular tuesday stream without warning "Hello everyone, here's the new guy" ? L&R Aurélien (I think you can just say "Aurélien", you don't have to go with the Last name)

Aurélien GRANIER

Hi Dr. Jones, Something I have been thinking about, you might also already have answered this already (In that case I apologise! ) Also feel free to skip this question if its too personal. We all know that you are married to the awesome talented Amanda Troop, How come you decided to keep your own last names? is it due to your presence in the industry? or just wasnt too bothered about it? Just wondering as Ive seen a lot of comments lately "Isnt that Amanda Jones?" when they are referring to Troop and I always feel an urge to correct them. Love and Respect!

Sebastian Hall

Hi Jones, I believe this is my first time asking a question on Cup of Jones, so I hope it is good enough. Recently, the publisher of Stardew Valley, which is Chucklefish, brought their next game back into the spotlight a little bit by changing the name of said game from "Spellbound" to it's new name "Witchbrook". How much do you think the name of a game, and especially a new IP, matters? And what do you think of this particular change? Lastly if you haven't seen or heard of this game before, consider checking it out before the stream. If not: Spellbound/Witchbrook is a game where you play as a young witch or wizard just starting their first school year at a magical school, think Harry Potter. A magic school RPG if you will. The art style is very much in the Stardew Valley direction but on my opinion Witchbrook looks better and a bit less pixely (more smooth). Love & Respect Gustav Strömbom (Gurrzilla everywhere else but twitch where I just added an "r", so "Gurrrzilla")

Gustav Strömbom

Hey mate - Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, or Star Wars the Empire Strikes back? Both scores are being played by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra later this year and I can only choose one to attend. Is the choice as obvious as I think it is? (Also bonus points if you pronounce "Melbourne" like an Aussie)

ScentThick

Hey Jones, question inspired by the 2 year anniversary stream: Do you own that tux, or do you rent it for occasions? If you own it, what did it run you? I've always heard they're insanely expensive. Love and Respect!

Joseph La Russa

Hello Jones, First of all, HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!! I have several questions for this week. Would you check out and stream Subnautica? From the gameplay I have seen with other streamers, I believe that it would be right up your alley with survival aspects, home building, and cataloging items. It’s really cool that you are currently working on an X-Men pilot television show. My question for this topic is who would you cast for the original X-men team members? And for the last question, I think you had mentioned that you have played the tabletop rpg Vampire: The Masquerade. If you did, would you ever run a series like TTE set in the World of Darkness? I once asked Ben this question and he expressed the difficulty in finding time and the hurdle of the Allies learning how to play. I have no experience in the pen and paper rpg (only exposure to WoD was the fantastic game, Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines) but I just really want to see you guys role play as vampires. I will be okay with a Fiasconauts episode too! Love & Respect.

With the Souls retrospective finally coming to a close, I'd like to know what your favourite Souls bosses are. Give me either a top five or your favourite boss in each game, whichever you prefer. My personal favourite is the Orphan of Kos, a boss that I feel is completely unmatched in emotional impact, difficulty and sheer ferocity. It's also got my favourite boss theme in the series, except for maybe the Abyss Watchers theme, which is just top notch.

Small Leviathan

appolgies if i'm wrong, but i'm sure you said that if you picked Halo it wouldn't stand a chance. if so, your putting what you think otheres will think above yours and are then not picking a Hall of Great, but a game you think the otheres will also pick. just wrong.

Hey Jones, Great job getting Ben Hanson on the podcast. His chemistry with you guys worked really well and it was good to see a new face (not that I don’t enjoy all the regular Allies appearing!). What was the reaction within EZA when you announced this, did anyone have to move aside How difficult was it to line Ben up? Is this a result of you making more of an effort to network with other outlets behind the scenes or did the stars just align? Cheers,

Back on 10/26/16 you and Huber began playing REmake. Will you two ever go back to finish the game?

Henry Ramirez

Hey Jones! Do you think any of the allies would be willing to do an occasional "video game music appreciation stream"? I've been binging old Bosman v Wozniak episodes which is what gave me the idea. The concept would be similar, an ally picks a low-key, story-free game to play, load up Soundtrack Bot, and everybody just sits back and enjoys the great vibes together. Just a thought!

RobBobWill

Hi Jones, over the past year NieR:Automata has become my favourite game of all time after playing it a second time. It's currently on sale on PSN in US and the Steam version on Humblebundle for $30 in case you want to check it out after EZA in concert when things are a little less busy ;) I also encourage everyone else watching CoJ to give it a shot. That is all L&R RobbL PS: Great job on the Souls Retro part 4

Dear Mr. Jones, What's one of your favourite Monty Python skits? Thanks for all of your positivity, and I'm really excited to watch the 2 year anniversary! Love & Respect, Mumble Mumbleton xo

Mumble Mumbleton

Yo Jones, You nominated Pong before FF6? Come on, man. L&R (All in good fun)

Michael G

Hey Jones This might be more a Kyle thing than a Jones thing but here goes anyway. I think And For That Reason is too good an idea to just keep to the intro of the podcast. I could very easily see it being an excellent stand alone podcast. Thoughts?

Joetown

Worth noting, Brad's votes could've changed 2nd place.

Lauri Laivo

Yes Jones! I also am a big fan of Quantum Leap. :)

Elliot Childs

Prepare to read: I saw some news about Omega Labyrinth Z not getting ratings in some countries (germany obviously included), so I had to write a dumb rant and because I would really love to hear an in-depth opinion of the wonderful Brandon Jones *air kiss*. Please allow me this, I promise next time I'll do a short fun game with no "diamond-like sharpness" ;) So give me your sharp opinions and I'll listen to them, even if it hurts. (OR if you're really uncomfortable talking about THESE kinda topics, how about a pm?) Dumb people (as in people that seem to have absolutely no tolerance for other cultures or just hate taling about anything that could be seen as s*xy) say that games like Senran Kagura, Omega Labyrinth Z and other japanese games aka "hyper sexual videogames" create rapists and people (and the japanese creators of those games) don't "respect women" or rape little kids cause the fictional characters they gawk at have a fictional age that's below 18 *facepalm* What the people who say that don't seem to understand though, is that that mentality is the same mentality super dumb politicians (basically all of them) use when they say "violent videogames create mass murdererers", which is obviously just as dumb as the aforementioned statement. But for some reason a lot of dumb people defend violence in videogames with "it's just a game",but when it comes to some sexuality it's "unnaccapteble that games like THIS are being made! Think about those poor underage fictional characters getting pervy looks! We gotta protect them!" Just why do people think it is NOT possible to play pervy games and still respect women? People have s*x (WOW!). People watch and make p*rn (WOW!). There are so many women who post very revealing pictures on social media. Companies know that s*x sells (FEMALE AND MALE!!!). So why do dumb people nowadays just love to attack s*xual videogames and the people who play them. Well, in my opinion it's cause mass media and people who don't know sh*t about games usually hate videogames already, so it's probably easy to just attack them and "cause a change for the better! So that REAL humans won't get raped, disrespected, etc etc", cause instead of helping solve those problems in the REAL world, you just gotta attack fictional characters that can't fight back. Also people did crimes before videogames existed, just saying. + I do not play all pervy japanese games(the last one was actually Senran Kagura Estival Versus on PSVita) (it heavily depends on the gameplay, like Omega labyrinth: dungeon crawling is something I'm not interested in, but Senran Kagura hack'n'slash is always fun), but the ones I do are usually "dumb and funny" and nothing to get angry over in my opinion... (Maybe too personal) Side rant: It's really annoying to me how many people say "oh those poor women, always getting shafted, raped, getting pervy looks, not being respected, etc etc" cause in my household, I was at the bottom of the food chain with me being the only male in the family. Like I said so many times already, I do think I respect ALL humans and animals (not insects though, hate those!) and in my close proximity (home, school, university, work) I've never seen "disrespect towards women". I know it's a big world, but you gotta calm down with all those accusations people. I don't do social media and stuff, but I do sometimes see stuff people write (thanks to news sites etc) and it's always like "Hey, there's this one piece of sh*t man doing sh't to a woman, so all males are sh't now". Every time the same schlick. When it's a woman doing something wrong, most sites won't even mention it. And to clarify, the thing that annoys me is not "women getting respect" or something like that. It's the "men are evil" mantra that's really popular these days. And while I'm already trigger-ready, I might as well say that the n*zis you guys (and especially Huber) just loves to kill in videogames. Or at least that is what you're actually doing, but the way Huber says it makes me a really uncomfortable, cause he says it in a way that makes me think he's gonna come here and kill me cause I'm german (or at least half-german). Obviously the ideals na**s had (and some still have) are utter garbage, but especially during war time not ALL of them necessarily agreed, but because of pack-mentality and a f*cking war going on (which I'm sure none of us can actually imagine) the na** numbers were big. My grandpa fought in WWII and was basically a nazi in the eyes of the ROW. I never knew him, he died before I was born and I dunno if he agreed with those dumb ideals, but even without those and without knowing him personally I do know that he was a piece of sh*t father to my mother, aunts and uncle. I dunno what the history channel taught you guys over there (foreigner assumption that the history channel shows WWII stuff all the time + obviously glorifying the USA), but n**is were in fact also humans. Even if the na*is as a whole did bad things, so did a lot of other races in the past. And the USA is certainly not a pure-white sheet of paper, when it comes to intolerable crimes as well. So, I don't want you to stop having fun killing na**s in videogames, just maybe talk abo9ut how you're killin' HUMANS in videogames, cause that's what they are: fictional models of HUMANS. Also, in games like uncharted you kill HUMANS all the time as well, but there nobody is unnecessarily glorifying the killing of them for some reason. It just happens when n*zis are mentioned for some reason...makes me remember how recently at a WWE live show Kaeri Sane (obviously japanese) got "Pearl Harbor" chants at an american city...cause she's japanese...and everyone but USA is evil... I do want to clarify that this is just some things that irk me, but I could (unless you commit crimes) never hate the Easy Allies <3 I can disagree with you, which is why I wrote this huge (damn, I didn't even notice till now) comment without holding back. + I know you love different opinions, so maybe I'm giving you a fresh new take on something that's being chewed on for years? LOVE AND RESPECT, DiamondCrusader

Your Fortnite rant reminded me of the South Park "Night of the Living homeless" episode . "chhhhaaaaaaaaaaanngeee??"

Eduardo Ortiz

I enjoyed that Fortnite rant a lot!

Hey Jones! First of all, congratulations on your 2nd anniversary! About the Hall of Greats... I absolutely loved every second of your last induction stream. They have been constantly improving and you have introduced some great changes along the way. Not being able to vote for your own game is one of them. Since some Allies tend to vote for their own game and some don't, this makes the process more legitimate. However, last stream revealed an issue you might want to address. Resident Evil 4 is a great game and it should be in Hall of Greats. But it had a clear advantage. Since you can’t vote for your own game and Brad wasn't there, RE4 was the only game eight people could vote for. While the max amount of points every other game could get was 21, Resident Evil 4 was the only one that could get 24.

the_finnish_ally

Oh man I'd love if they dressed up for it! Looking at the future of it I'd also love if they had a podium for the speeches to be made from

Mr M

Yo Jonesy, Seeing as you've got the piece of paper in front of you with a list of questions that you're answering, that implies that you've got that list on a word document or somewhere. Could you please copy that list and whack it in the youtube description after you've finished or something? I can't watch every episode of this, but would like to ask questions every now and then and I don't really want to search through 3 months' worth of patreon's horrible comments system to not just repeat another question someone else asked. As always, drink some damned mango nectar - try whacking it into a smoothie! I don't know how that particular version of it tastes, so be my lab rat for me <3. -Mr M

Mr M

First of all, I think the hall of greats was amazing and a gun watch again. I think that there are obvious fixes that should happen in the future, more clear definition on what can be nominated, not having a situation where one game can get 8 people to vote for it while the rest only can have 7 people vote on it, and whatever else you all feel needs adjusting. That however isn't my question. My question is, would you ever consider doing a quarterly or one off podcast/video about theme parks, say get other video game people who love theme parks such as Andre Segers of gamexplain, rogersbase, or others to talk about theme parks?

Mr.V

I have a few questions, all related. Devil May Cry or Bayonetta? (and why?) Which are you more excited for , DMC5 or Bayonetta 3? And finally, which do you think will review better, DMC5 or Bayonetta 3?

NotYourMom

I have no question. Only want to say. What you guys do us fantastic and the fact that you're so responsive really makes me feel like I'm involved in a conversation about the things I love. Rare nowadays for me considering all my friends have gone their separate ways. Thank you. Dominic Brown, or TheHamHub on Twitch.

Dominíc Brown

With four Hall of Greats a year, it will catch up. The early entries will be classics of some kind. I'm also bummed WoW was disqualified for a year, at least one vote should've gone for it... But here we are, a year later, a DQ isn't so bad after all. I'm sure WoW will get there eventually. (rhetorical :) Question is, when will we get to the second round?

Lauri Laivo

Hello Jones, you are tired from an exhausting day and it is raining outside - What would be your favourite food and video game (or type of video game) you would choose to relax? For me it would be Spaghetti Bolognese and starting a RPG where I take all the time in the world for the character creation. Thanks for being the awesome gent you are.

wouldyoukindly

Hi Jones, Have you come across a moment when someone mentions to you about a specific game, your initial response is “Huh? What’s that?”? It is usually an indication to you that it is a game that you either have never heard of or is a terrible game. I had this reaction when I was purchasing my Nintendo Switch recently. The salesperson was trying to sell a game that I have never heard off and I always replied with “Huh? What’s that?”. My brother did a search online and told me that the game was terrible. Did you have that similar reaction? Also, are Huber and Ben going to break stuff during the E3 live stream if the release date for Final Fantasy 7 Remake has been announced? I have seen their reaction back at Gametrailers when FF7 Remake was announced. P.S: I bought the Switch version of Doom together with my Switch console.

G’day, Jones. I was curious - is your objection to “rides” that are just a moving chair in front of a movie screen an objection to the format in general, or just one of Disney using it too much in recent years? Kings Island, our local theme park here in SW Ohio had one such motion theater for many years (though it seems to have been discontinued in recent years and now I only ever see it used as a haunted house at Halloween) and I have some fond memories of it. Owned by Paramount at the time, the park had some interesting uses of film licenses. The mid-90s in particular stand out, when they changed the motion theater from a Days of Thunder experience to James freaking Bond, Brosnan-style. Complete with contextualizing the audience presence - a video played while waiting for your turn in the theater featured Q introducing you to a set of special glasses Bond would be wearing through the mission, which would then transmit his POV to you the secret agent in training. While I wouldn’t want a majority of rides to just be this, I do think there’s a place for it in parks. (Incidentally, the last thing I remember in the motion theater before it stopped being used was a Spongebob thing that also added 3D glasses to the mix. Not nearly as cool as Bond, if you ask me.)

Erunion

That Fortnite rant at the end was awesome :)

miggity

Hey Jones, Is Gengar still around? Just curious

VGJunky

If you could pick one major deviation from an alternate timeline Earth (from any video game, movie, or book) to incorporate to our Earth timeline, what would you choose?

Professor Metal Gear

I would hate it if you guys weren't all living near each other. It would ruin the vibes of basically all the shows/streams.

miggity

It looks as though from now on you will not be able to vote on your own gane in hall of greats. For me this brings up an unlikely but very unwelcome addition to hall of greats. Tanking. Say for instance their are two equally popular games FFVI AND FFVII for instance, you brought FFVI and since you can't put 3 votes to your own game to ensure FFVI's entry you, instead of putting your votes towards FFVII, you vote for Kyle's Cooking Mama entry. This is only a hypothetical problem and I could only really see someone doing it as a poor taste joke, however I feel like everyone has conducted themselves quite professionally in the past and hope that this continues.

Steven Beaumont

Hey Jones, what would you rate The Witcher 3 on the 100 point scale, and what would you rate Bloodborne on the 100 point scale? You talk about them being close, but how close? Bonus sneeze tip: if you press your tongue against the roof of you mouth with all your tongue-strength, it is impossible for your body to sneeze.

mikkel hervel nemmøe

Hey Brandon. What about making the Hall of Greats a black tie event? I think it would be perfect. L&R

Eric Grynberg

They did it previously because they wanted E3 to look and feel like a Special Event

VGJunky

Hi Brandon, why the suits on E3 and not your regular clothes? i like the formality, but why do you decide to wear them on the press conferences? Congrats on your EZA birthday :P

Daniel Garza Andrade

Hello Brandon! The 8th of Mars 2019 is the last time we’re getting ps3 games on ps+. Could this be a sign that ps5 will be out sometime between April and November 2019? They don’t want to give ps+ games to 3rd gen consoles. L&R

Mikael Agnell

Hey Brandon, in regards to Fortnite and your editorial a little comment - I'm currently also playing Save the World, which is indeed very relaxing and a great opportunity to catch up on streams (and collect some sweet V-bucks!). A few days ago I visited the Reddit for the first time and for whatever reason the community seemed livid with recent changes. What really surprised me, though, was how quite a few players who stated they were in the high-90s requested a refund and got it, because of those changes and their progress being "worthless" now. I'm all for consumer rights, but man... that escalation of entitlement is staggering, but as we all know... the end counts, never the journey. Hope you stream some more Fortnite in the future, enjoyed your two previous streams. Keep it up and have a nice week!

Hi Brandon, I have another equipment question. Have you ever considered to use a VR180 camera for the weekly podcast or event reactions. For example like the Lenovo Mirage Camera. Such a camera would increase the feeling of being part of the discussion instead of being just a distant observer. Congratulations on the second birthday of EZA. L&R Fabian Winkler

Fabian Winkler

Happy anniversary! During your second year Patreon numbers didn't change much. How is this impacting EZA morale?

Alexander Zyryanov

Hey Mr. Jones! By the time you read this, Easy Allies in Concert: Revengence is a wrap. So: What are your critiques about the event? Do you believe it was an improvement over the first concert? Any other thoughts about how Sunday played out? Regardless, thanks to you and all the other Allies for putting on the show and entertaining those who could make it. Love and Respect, have a great day, and Cheers! P.S. To your thoughts about the Hall of Greats: THANK. YOU.

Brandon K Gann

I would like to make a request to using a more worldwide friendly date format on videos. In Europe we use DD/MM/YY. The podcasts were friendly previously with February 21st 2018 for example, now you are just using numbers which makes the first 12 days of a month confusing, especially if you go back to it at a later date. Same goes for CoJ titles as you always use the American date format. Thanks

BeardedScotsman86

Care to reminisce about Goldeneye a little? Any fond memories from the Jungle level? Memorable moment unlocking a hard cheat? Do you remember the floor pattern in the Egyptian level puzzle room?
