Calling for "And For That Reason" Submissions!

As we’ve recently announced, the first show in Easy Allies’ initiative to create original short-run series exclusive to $1 patrons will be And For That Reason! This will be a six episode series in which we explore and poke holes in the goofy game concepts submitted by our audience. Each episode will feature one game idea presented as a 2-minute video that the panel will watch and react to before making final deliberations. That's where you come in--we're officially making the open (to patrons) call for submissions!

VIDEO FORMAT:

Your 2-minute pitch video could feature yourself on camera the whole time, or could just show off concept art or in-game assets with voice over. Your idea should be impractical and misguided, not something you seriously intend to create someday. Something we can riff off of but isn’t overly jokey. You know I love intrigue more than puns.

The very first thing in your video should be the phrase “Good evening, Easy Allies.” Then, begin your pitch with a prevalent problem in gaming that your game solves. This is not only a crucial element of the "pitch to investors" formula, but will help focus your video on what makes this idea unique. From there, you can present whatever you’d like: The title, EXP systems, world map, physics systems, DLC plans, whatever. To set up the namesake of the whole series, end your video with some version of the phrase “So, who’s in?”

VIDEO RULES:

Your video
- Must be no longer than 2 minutes.
- Must not include any licensed material/characters/IP you do not own
- Must not include any music, original or otherwise (this one's just for editing)

TO SUBMIT YOUR VIDEO:

- BEFORE ANYTHING: Read the submission form attached to this post. If you have submitted a video you have confirmed to Easy Allies that you have read and agree to this form.
- Send an email to AFTR@easyallies.com with AFTR Submission as the subject.
- Include an Unlisted YouTube link to your video.
- Include your name as you'd like it to appear in the show.

Thanks! If you have any questions, please post below and I’ll be happy to answer. The deadline for submissions is Friday, May 11th.

Love & Respect,
Kyle

Comments

OP says that the deadline is Friday, and I take that to mean that today is the last day submissions will be accepted (preferably). So you should be good.

We can still send it in today, right? I'm also editing and drawing some stuff to send later today!

pulling together a submission here at the last minute. need to edit some drawings together so i can pretend they're illustrating my babbling. ... but also super tired. so. will send it in tomorrow. #hype

warren blyth

You did not need to specify; that's completely fine

Easy Allies

My friend and I (both of us are patrons) worked on a submission together. I already submitted the video but is there a specific way that we should have shown that we're both patrons? In your post you mention that submissions are only accepted from patrons.

Just got done shooting, and I have a rough edit complete. Should be in by Wednesday at the latest!

I got a couple hours of scanning and editing some pictures then I'm ready to submit. I'm nervous all of a sudden. Edit: Just sent mine, I accidentally sent it without my preferred name, so hopefully they see it on the second email.

POKEY CLYDE

I will dock points if it's not perfect, so that's a big gamble

Easy Allies

Can I make a submission for Blackpot Academy? Might not, (too hesitant) just wondering.

Andreas Kleanthous

I should probably let everyone know, so that for most people there will only be one week of disappointment instead of six

Easy Allies

Rules on celebrity names are surprisingly open as long as it's clear your pitch is a parody

Easy Allies

You can absolutely do that, but please don't pull footage from those games

Easy Allies

Can we use real celebrity names in our games?

When we submit the pitch, is it possible for you to tell us if our pitch was submitted or not? Or will you keep us biting our nails if we were picked until the episodes go up?

Concerning the "no licensed IP" rule, can we reference existing IP/Games to get across mechanics and feel in our own pitch. ex: "In my FPS, gunplay will feel like COD"

Don't sell yourself short! Every idea is worth at least trying

Ah, so that's how you're doing it. Welp, no point in me trying, lol. Looking forward to what people come up with.

Minamik

I guess I didn't write any rules against it, so I don't see why not

Easy Allies

Yes, I'll have printed out "design documents" that contain the answer to any question

Easy Allies

I believe they're filming all six episodes at once, so your submission now will be considered for the whole of the series without a chance to re-submit (unless they bring it back for another run)

Walker Hope

If we have a submission for one episode, but it does not get in, are we going to be allowed to resubmit the same pitch for the future?

Hey Kyle, I was just wondering, are we allowed to submit more than one video?

Jason I.

I'm sad that my only good ideas involve existing IPs. I still think a fighting game inside the mind of David Bowie is solid gold.

Samuel Cardwell

Kyle, will you still be filling in the blanks like the previous “And for that reason” segment?

Expect my pitch!

Felipe Fonseca

I'll try but I'm working for the next 8-9 days, so may not get the work done.

POKEY CLYDE

Yeeeeaahh! I got a couple of ideas to pitch to you guys! Better get my suit ready for that investor meeting lol

They obviously consulted Hoeg for this lol.

GenWoofles

I assume there won't be any time to see how others do it. They will make the six episodes with the stuff they get sent in then this show is over (for now at least). They won't take submissions between each episode. If you want examples, I suggest just watching the old AFTR segments on the podcast or check out episodes of Shark Tank or Dragon's Den.

Olf Himself

I really want to submit a video but I am a little bit worried doing so without a real example to follow. I get the general idea but I kinda want to see how others will handle it before I put any work into it.

Jeffrey Tessar

looks like Publishers and Devs are going to have a FIELD TRIP on this one with someone elses idea. lol

Otoshigami

Exactly, we'll add music

Easy Allies

No original (or free) music in the video sounds like the submissions will come across as pretty awkward. Do you intend on re-editing the submissions for the final video?

Andrew Chalmers

Hoeg would be impressed with this.

jif52

That's correct. (Sorry)

Easy Allies

"Must not include any licensed material etc" which means we can't edit footage from other games together to give the allies an idea of what our game might look like?
