Pretty great discussion - Huber almost went a little too far with the Infinity War stuff. Cool that Ian brought up the audience reaction videos on youtube - I watch stuff like that all the time, especially like it for movies that I watch at home so I miss out on the day 1 theater experience. The conclusion for the hero and villain isn't quite the same for Black Panther - both wanted to reveal themselves to the world but one wanted to rule/overthrow and the other just wanted to share information I think that the conversation about Black Panther is just due to the fact that it's one of the highest grossing movies of all time. Just people pointing out that it's not actually that great despite its ridiculous financial success. I see where they're coming from since it's not in my list of the top Marvel movies - but I also see why it's an important film and why it's so popular

Nice one. Drew made for a fun guest (I gotta check out some Ugly Stepchildren), and I like that the conversation free-wheeled and didn't just go through every single movie as other "retrospective" discussions might. I also thought the topic of diversity was great to finish on, since Marvel's films are such a focal point for those opportunities in Hollywood. I agree with Ian that it's only a good thing to consider changing up the racial, gender and sexual identities of established characters from the white/male/cis/het default, and not just to fill an arbitrary quota. Casting Heimdall and Valkyrie as they did, for instance, means that these movies better use the blank canvas that cosmic worlds offer - it's not like they have to accurately portray a real population, so why not be flexible that way? On the flip-side of that with a movie like Spider-Man Homecoming, seeing diverse faces means that the boundaries of Peter's world are that much wider, and it makes his task as a Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man more interesting. Basically, it only makes the movies more fun for more people, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Dammit I missed the earlier post... Well I just want Say the MCU legacy is really something amazing when you look back on the past 10 years, and I am honestly proud to have been around to experience such driving imagination of story telling of these films. The two films that stood out the most in my opinion were Captain America Winter Solider & guardians of the galaxy. Don't get me wrong lots of really great marvel films over the years, (Dr.Strange, Civil War, Ragnarok) but these two (especially Winter Soldier) have balanced the fun of comic book fantasy with the realism of the context that our heroes often find themselves dealing in conflict with. THAT, plus how humor is used from making sure the narrative & pacing scale is never totally tipped between ridiculous comics ultra serious drama. In the end Marvel figured out a secret formula for making great film entertainment.. Kudos Marvel studios, and Here is to another 10 years.

I tweeted this, but for like 3 days, I was super salty that people were lining up for 2:40 of Infinity War when they couldn't be bothered to give 2:44 Blade Runner 2049 a shot. But when I saw Iinfinity War it really felt like a 120 min movie. I drank a large drink and didn't even feel it until the credits.
