Cup of Jones - May 15, 2018

Here's a shorter, pre-recorded episode during my absence at E3 Judge's Week. Greg Miller and I have strange jobs, and I've always wanted to pick his brain about what efforts went in to creating the Kinda Funny Best Friends, and what important lessons he's learned in the process. As always, he's honest and insightful, sharing some crowdfunding challenges from the past and present.

You can leave comments below, but please refrain from asking questions if you already asked one in the comments from last week's episode. I'll get to all of them next week, and I don't want that episode length to get out of control. I also can't go into detail about Judge's Week until various embargoes lift, so I'll skip any questions about Pre-E3 coverage if there's nothing I can say.

Have a fun Group Stream Tournament tonight, enjoy this week's EZA Podcast, and I'll see you next Tuesday morning. Cheers!

Cup of Jones - May 15, 2018

Hey Jones, I had a quick buisness focused question. When you guys eventually get the new studio will we potentially be getting more installments of the biweekly and monthly shows you guys have? If so I feel like you guys might want to convey that to the audience a bit more, letting them know that there could be potential for weekly fiasconauts, trailer jones, and friend code episodes. These could also be low lol pledges after we hit the 50k goal (ex 51k weekly friend code). I love a lot of the shows you all produce right now but wish I could get so of them more frequently. L&R Gale

No question just wanted to show L&R to all the Allies out there! Have a good week guys and gals!

No question from me but just wanted to drop by and say great episode. Lots of insight!

Sherico dela Cruz

Hey Brandon can you give us a story about your first ever E3?

Jason Walstrom

Again, no comment just offering a heaping helping of kudos. L&R matt b

With a couple of big hitters reacently realeased on the big screen. What movies are you looking forward to in the coming year?

Hi Jones, with your RE2 history I really thought who had some sort of connection with Dino Crises. Any other games you have a desire to play someday?

bjørnar haraldsvik

Yes. All of the allies are former GT staff.

WarmFeelings

This was answered in the May 8th episode of COJ, also briefly referenced in the post for that episode as well. The answer is yes.

WarmFeelings

oh wow is this the gametrailers guy?

osohista

I'm sure this has been asked before but I'm relatively new. Now that Easy Allies has moved on to a 20 point rating system, you no longer have an outline of what each score means, like you had with your previous rating system, and you've said that these two systems are not comparable. I know that with me, it is hard for me to understand what each individual score means when I just see a number out of 10, especially when 7 seems to be the score for mediocre these days which doesn't make too much sense to me (you even stated in Trailer Jones that 7 is the average trailer for you). Have you considered writing up what each score means specifically for the Allies like some other sites do? I understand that people will criticize for looking into a score too much but in that case don't know why we would be scoring in the first place.

CostlyMistake

Is there a reason why Trailer Jones didn’t get the patreon early access treatment? Was it because it was the pilot and that will be the case moving forward? Also the $1 tier title still calls it the cup of jones tier. However since the revamp you’ve been calling it the exclusive show tier in the patreon plugs. I recommend refreshing the tier title and description. Keep up the great work!

Edit: looks like the comment I replied to was deleted

Good Morning Jones, Will we see a preview from all of the equipment that you got? I know some of the things need time to set up, but a behind a scenes video from you and Ian setting up the office would be great. Love&Respect, Dave

I'm not sure exactly what's happening with Talking Syndrome, but Gundam Construction is on hiatus while Kyle is working on Box Peek, and I believe the others didn't want tot do it without him. I presume you meant HOG, which if so, is only done once every 3 months. The last one was in March, so you can expect the next one in June.

BeatenDownBrian

Hi Jones, just wanted to ask about what's happened to few different shows/streams. Talking Syndrome, Gundam Construction and GOG streams. Are these streams now extinct or just on a fairly long temporary hiatus?

Are there any plans/thoughts for doing local recording of streams in case of issues with twitch or internet connection? Also the quality would be higher than the archiving the stream. Cheers David

David Barka

Great episode BEYOND !!!!

John Wingate

In a way they kinda do. When they changed it, people commented on how it actually became less visible in their YT feed, as it looked very similar to everything else. Kyle also mentioned that views dropped after they changed it. I think they probably will change it up again at some stage, they just need to find the right image etc. first.

BeatenDownBrian

Why don't episodes of the Easy Allies Podcast have a unique thumbnail and side title anymore?

GmanSir

Are you going to do more comic based episodes? I loved it!

Sekiro505

A Batman conversation (plus a Video Game conversation too) with Victor Lucas sounds like a great idea!

I wouldn't mind timed exclusivity instead of permanent exclusivity. IMO that's the best of both worlds between rewarding Patrons and generating views on content. This one especially would be a good video to release to the wild in about a week or so But we'll wait and see how things shake out - it appears to have been a good move so far so no need to change anything. However I think the Infinity War spoiler mode and things of that ilk that take over the public consciousness should probably get out to the public since the whole world is going to be searching for spoilercasts of that sort of thing. God of War's spoilercast ended up being pretty successful due to the zeitgeist (and Cory) and I imagine that Infinity War would have had similar numbers

VGJunky

Yeah that really said a lot about Jaffe. When you’re in the public eye, there’s a chance that you or what you create will be poked fun at, or worse. Jaffe’s ridiculous overreaction to someone making a few jokes about his game really showed me that, emotionally, he’s a child.

NoaZo

Hi Brian, glad to hear EZA helped you trough dark times. Jones had the 'bring back Final Bosman' quite a few times and the thing is, he doesn't want to force Kyle into doing that if he doesnt want to. In the video where Kyle talks about the idea for Box Peek, he says that it terrifies him to have this endless show promise, even more now because Patreons would be paying for it. Thats why a series like Box Peek makes him more comfortable, because there is an end to it. Kyle might change his mind of course so its always good to ask but I don't think Jones will push Kyle into doing it, untill Kyle feels completely comfortable with it. Cheers

Sven Van Lathem

Why does no one owe Kyle an apology? When David Jaffe was publically ridiculing Kyle because of a comedy bit Kyle did about him, I was getting considerably angry. No one insults our Kyle!

Jones with the recent success of adding the top ten Patreon goal I had a thought. What if to help incentives people you made a final bosman like show a 52k goal? I know Kyle is not interested in doing this show and is also busy with box peak. However you guys had no interest in doing top tens and brought that back. I personally would DOUBLE my pledge to help get to that goal. I know my pledge is only $5 so not a huge jump but just food for thought. After listening to your editorial last week I wanted to let you know that you all are the best and your positivity is inspiring. Way back in the GT days you guys and your shows helped get me through a very hard and dark time in my life. For over a year and a half my ex refused to let me see my daughter and made serious accusations about me through this time. I became very depressed. It was shows like Mandatory Update, GT Time, Final Bosman and, Huber Hype that would put a rare smile on my face. Well now days I see my daughter every week. She loves to watch Huber Syndrome with me. She loves how “silly” Huber is. She will occasionally watch the group streams with me when I have it on. As I type this a couple things the pop in my head that she has said about you guys are that “ Ian has pretty hair” and “Kyle can be kind of grumpy.” So from the bottom of my heart thank you to you all for everything. You will never know how much you mean to me and how much you have helped me. If it’s not to much to ask please share this with the rest of the Allies. Sorry for such a long post.

Hi Jones, longtime fan of EZA, just became a patron. I've noticed that allies like Ben, Kyle, Damiani and Blood have recently started to edit various EZA videos. Is this something you've talked about with allies to reduce the workload from Ian, Don and yourself or more something that naturally happened? Also do you think we'll see reviews edited by the other allies in the future (it'd be amazing if Huber wrote and edited the RE2 remake review) L&R!

Jesse Nye

Hi Jones, I enjoyed watching the recent video you did with Greg Miller. Do you have any plans to do something similar with other personalities like a Batman conversation with Victor Lucas, Video Gaming with Geoff Keighley or with the guys from The Know (that is a division from Rooster Teeth)? It is a great break for having someone that is outside EZA to be featured in your videos or streams, from having Elyse in Easy Update, God Of War Director Cory Barlog appeared in Spoiler Mode etc.. So, I am curious if we going to have more special guest appearances in EZA.

Yes!!! I always love seeing these EZA and KF crossovers

Kian Jahromi

He said on last weeks episode that they don't really want to start doing breakout video's of podcasts like that, as it would clutter the channel. My own advice would be to just watch/listen until the end of a topic/segment and then come back to it whenever suits you.

BeatenDownBrian

Hi Brandon, Just wondering if you guys ever considered cutting frametrap into three shorter 1 hour episodes and dividing the releases throughout the week. I mostly never have the time to listen for 3 - 4 hours at once, whereas the podcast I can usually finish in one sitting. Not sure if this is the best idea, but still wanted to pitch it. Thank you for the hard work! L&R!

Hello Brandon sorry to bother you but was curious if you guys were still waiting for equipment. I know you might read this on the 22nd. Thank you l&r!!

Isaias Sanchez

What a wonderful conversation.

I didn't leave a question last week, so I'd like to leave one now. I want so badly to have GTA 6 be in Chicago, but it brings up many issues. On the one hand, you have so many aspects of the city that are ripe for parody and representation: The Sears Tower, The Loop, Boystown, south side, little Italy, Uptown, Andersonville, Wrigleyville; the city's propensity for home brewing, improv, and LGBTQ friendly neighborhoods. You could have a fast travel system using the city's extensive public transportation. You could have the streets around Wrigleyville backed up during Cubs games. You've got the river and lake and the suburbs for variety. To me, it's perfect for a GTA. However, I don't want to be running around a version of Chicago, shooting whatever and whoever I please. For me, it would feel too real and sad. Do you think you'd also feel this way? If so, how could a Chicago GTA overcome this? Maybe set it in the past? Al Capone era? Or what if it doubled down on making you feel bad for committing crimes? Curious to get your take. Thank you for taking my question, and keep up the great work!

This was great

The Hashtagonist

Mr Jones, you make a great host! Good chemistry, great questions, really enjoyed the flow of this conversation. I wouldn't be opposed to more stuff like this (when appropriate) in the future.

WarmFeelings

Awesome! ^^

Henk Groenendijk

This was a really great conversation. Thanks for posting this!

Jon White

same. not a fan of kinda funny but i like his personality regardless as he is a cool person to talk to. :)

Otoshigami

Of course I'm a wee bit biased, but this one was and is my favorite Cup of Jones.

Brandon K Gann

While Kinda Funny isn't really my cup of tea, I have a lot of respect for Greg Miller. He's one of those personality's that seems to have been around forever in this industry. Great to get his insight.

I was totally not expecting this becouse of Judge's Week. Thanks for always looking out for your fellow allies!

April 15th? Surely that's a mistake.

Gustav Strömbom

IMO Cup of Jones isn't too long, but if you choose to trim the fat then I would prefer that it get done in the personal questions segment. Just IMO since the business questions are what really interest me. Otherwise maybe just keep sectioning it off into Intro, Business Qs, Personal Qs, Editorial and people will be able to catch the bits they want. If writing down timecodes during the show is too much work, maybe you could just have titles that you can click on in xplit to show what segment you're doing and then just get the timecode later. Offset for the audio version by length of the dead air you trim off the start I guess

VGJunky

Ooooh man. This is gonna be good
