Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Preview

On the last day of Judge's Week, I got the chance to be among the first to play an hour of Black Ops IIII multiplayer. Brad immediately asks how I did, and the answer is - my best. It's frantic trying to understand each specialist, make their abilities work on the battlefield, and try to sort out all the new information. I incorrectly stated there are 6 players on each team (there are 5), couldn't remember the map they mentioned when illustrating how big Blackout's map is (Nuketown), and I believe the Blackout characters will be limited to Black Ops and not the Call of Duty franchise as a whole. Still, there's a lot of coverage here for you to dig into if you'd appreciate another perspective on this week's announcements.

Wasn't looking forward to this at first because of the no campaign but then they came out with their event and I'm right back in again, Zombies and Blackout (Battle Royale) both look really good and I've always preferred Treyarch with CoD multiplayer

See I don’t understand this “less than 40%” argument. Far less than 40% of players reach prestige level 1 in multiplayer. In fact on both steam and ps4, more players beat the story of WW2 than got prestige level 1. By that logic multilayer should be the thing to go. The reality is, WW2 sold around 20 million copies. Based on achievements/trophies, around 1/4 of those players beat the story. Activision saying 5 million of their player base doesn’t matter is quite offputting tbh. Other games would kill for a chance to sell MAX 5 million copies. The real truth is that multiplayer can be far more easily monetized, while single player can not. The small subset of players who reach prestige 1 and keep playing are also far more likely to purchase loot boxes. It’s those players Activision is interested in. Fiscal year reports confirm WW2 saw a large profit for its loot box system. So this decision is based entirely around monetization options, not in actual player habits.

Sorry Brad, with the news that less than 40% of COD players finish the campaign I think it’s time they cut it entirely. It’s wasteful for a team to have to put so much time into something not even half of players will enjoy. This will mean, at least hopefully, less crunch time.

I love Treyarch COD. I cant wait for this one. Black Ops 3 is the best multiplayer fps.

The Romans would be proud of subtractive notation, they just didn’t come up with it yet.

Who knew there would be a black ops 4 haha

IIII is the (correct) original Roman version... it's just archaic. Given how much random people talk about it, maybe they did it just to stand out. Granted its CoD so they don't exactly need the marketing bump...

I can’t believe they’re going with that IIII thing. The Romans are spinning in their graves.
