Frame Trap - Episode 56 "Ever Cool"

LTTP on the Hottake, but Splinter Cell deserves a place on the upper floors if only because I don't have the slightest f***ing idea what Ubi thinks a 2018 Splinter Cell should look like. Does it take its cues from Chaos Theory or Blacklist? Is it open world or hub-based? Single or Multi? Spies vs Mercs or Watchdogs-style invasions? I'm convinced we're going to see Splinter Cell but what form it will take and whether I - as a huge fan of the series - will love it is something I won't know until Ubi shows us it. It's also one of the world's largest publishers throwing their considerable weight behind a AAA stealth game when everyone else seems to have left that particular playing field. That alone makes Splinter Cell @ E3 incredibly interesting.

Personally I feel like Pikmin fell off for me due to the plot. In the first, you only have enough oxygen for 30 days, so if you can't rebuild the ship by then you die. I felt like without the context of that threat, the other games weren't as appealing. I feel like the tone can be compared to Majora's Mask

One more recommendation for the FS5 is to use PP6 (picture profile 6) since it gives you the most dynamic range, besides the s-log profiles which would need to be heavily graded in post, and use the in-camera color controls to color correct.

It's time to dive deep into those camera settings boys. One tip I can give you right away (if you aren't already aware) is to not use an iso of 3200 or higher. The FS5 doesn't do low light very well and noise starts to become apparent at 3200. Make sure to update the firmware (if you've not done so already) since 4.0 allows you to set a lower minimum iso than before. The FS5 doesn't do 4k all that well. It's limited to 8bit 4:2:0. It's a nice resolution bump, but at the cost of fine detail, color and shade information, framerate (limited to 30), and of course file size. It's recommended that they shoot in 1080 10bit 4:2:2 at 50mbps.

My partner's favourite game and Nintendo IP is Pikmin as well! She's quite a casual gamer, and I've introduced her to many Nintendo games which she likes to varying degrees. But she absolutely loves Pikmin, to the point that I've actually gifted her Pikmin merch for her birthday (she's the kind of person that would 100% dislike a video game related present otherwise). I think it's because she likes the combination of cute characters, natural and interesting setting (she likes gardening and animals, which Pikmin has those elements), as well as enjoyable and manageable gameplay. I also love the franchise too (probably in my top 5 video game IPs).

Those Frame Trap questions were incredibly easy this week. The demons are getting soft.

Tesla Effect is another FMV game worth checking out, it's a modern sequel to the Tex Murphy adventure series. Star Trek: Borg is fun too if you're a fan. Also, if you had to pick one classic adventure game... The Longest Journey.

Loved the podcast this week Ben! Looking great in the new equipment. The Frame Trap game reminded me of a segment called the 'Fame Game' from Sale of the Century.
