GameXplain Special E3 Segment Q&A
Added 2018-06-10 16:43:57 +0000 UTCHow's it going everyone?
Later today, we will have Andre Segers, Derrick Bitner and Ash Paulsen of GameXplain along with Jonathan Metts of Radio Free Nintendo/Nintendo World Report joining me (Damiani) for a special hour-long segment covering Nintendo at this year's E3. One thing I want us to have more of this year for our E3 coverage is Patron participation, so I am calling on Q&A submissions similar to what I do on Friend Code, only this is for $1 and up Patrons instead of just $5 and up.
So if you could, please submit questions regarding what we expect from Nintendo on Tuesday, and we'll answer as many as we can get through in the hour.
L&R,
- Damiani

2018-06-12 03:23:43 +0000 UTCMy question is If Sony did release a PS4 portable what would make the Switch stand out? it would essentially be a great home console and also a great portable, something the Switch struggles with. 70 million PS4's have been sold that's a large market of people that could also be really interested in a portable version and that excludes 1st time PS4 portable only buyers.
2018-06-11 10:14:16 +0000 UTCMy question to you is: How do you make sure we don't get over-hyped? Cause that happens a lot. ^__^;

2018-06-11 09:16:52 +0000 UTCDo you think this is an opportune time to announce major firmware changes, such as download play or updates to online that are not attached to the new online service?

2018-06-11 03:59:25 +0000 UTCHow confident does the panel feel that Hollow Knight will shadow drop for Switch during treehouse?
2018-06-11 01:19:58 +0000 UTCAh well, maybe some other time.

2018-06-11 00:43:24 +0000 UTCHey everyone! Do you think we'll get a look at a new Fire Embem? And if so, any expectations? I personally loved Awakening, but wouldn't mind going back to something similar to Fire Emblem 7 or Path of Radiance! Thanks!!
2018-06-10 23:30:33 +0000 UTCWhat about a Kid Icarus reboot!?
2018-06-10 23:04:59 +0000 UTCIt’s no doubt that Breath of the Wild and Mario Odyssey have been massive successes for the Switch, both financially and critically. Do you think that Nintendo could announce something that can continue the momentum the Switch has going forward, and if so, what is it?

2018-06-10 22:57:02 +0000 UTCWhat are the chances for a new Pokemon Snap or even a remake?
2018-06-10 22:48:31 +0000 UTCAfter the Metroid 2 remake, can we hope for a brand new 2D Metroid game from Nintendo?

2018-06-10 20:00:49 +0000 UTCAwesome collab between my two favourite YouTube channels. My question is what "second tier" franchise do you think will make a return/debut on Switch? Examples would be things like Mario Party, Mario Golf, Luigis Mansion etc. Thanks guys

2018-06-10 20:00:20 +0000 UTCWill Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE be represented this year, either with a character in smash, a port or perhaps a sequel!? If not what do you think that team inside Atlus is working on?

2018-06-10 19:29:39 +0000 UTCHi everyone! Quick and easy question: Nintendo has historically released many different editions/styles of their handheld consoles. Should we expect hardware announcements for the Switch this E3 (handheld-only model, "Pro" model, etc.)?

2018-06-10 19:09:06 +0000 UTCHey allies and gamexplain! So my girlfriend wants a switch and we are going to get one on Friday after e3. She is a big Nintendo fan, and both of us are getting back into gaming as we get a little older and are settled in a bit more. I'm truly excited for all the games already on the platform as well as whatever new stuff we get at e3 BUT I would be even more excited if more old school Nintendo games were made available. I've done a lot of PC and playstation gaming over the years and feel like I missed out on tons of great Wii u and Wii games. Plus I'd love to relive some of my gamecube days to boot. So my question is, in terms of old releases, backwards compatibility etc. Do you guys think we will get anything substantial? I'd love to go back and play through some of the good ones that came out while I was more preoccupied with "serious gaming".
2018-06-10 18:59:47 +0000 UTCNintendo always bring new or smaller IP games in Directs like Sushi Striker or Dillon's Deat-Heat Breaker. Do you think they will show one at E3? If so are any of you excited by those announcement? Personally, I like new IP, but it's hard for me to connect with those smaller budget games. My dream big Nintendo wish at E3 is a new Diddy Kong Racing or a new donkey kong '94 (gameboy)
2018-06-10 18:59:29 +0000 UTCDoes an extended gameplay trailer for Metroid Prime 4 sound likely? Will Fire Emblem have attractive 'mini characters' unlike the derpy sprites of previous versions?
Steven Beaumont
2018-06-10 18:58:42 +0000 UTCHello Allies and GameXplain. Nintendo has announced many titles since the Switch unveiling which we've seen little to nothing of (Fire Emblem, Metroid Prime 4, Bayonetta 3, and third party stuff like Shin Megami Tensei 5). Can we expect to see more of these titles during the Nintendo Direct or do you think Nintendo will hold some titles back, especially since we know there will be a huge focus on Smash Bros (like Mario Odyssey last year and Breath of the Wild the year before that). I'm especially curious to see Bayonetta 3 but with Devil May Cry 5 being heavily rumored for this E3, would Bayonetta be overshadowed by Dante or do you think the two could go head to head without stealing the spotlight from each other? Love & Respect Waseem
Dr. Dank
2018-06-10 18:54:38 +0000 UTCWill we see Nintendo's online service? Do you think Nintendo could host online events for classic games (like Satellaview but for NES)?
2018-06-10 18:51:08 +0000 UTCHi! new Patron here. It's so awesome to here that we're essentially having alll of GameXplain for today's press conferences alongside your Nintendo coverage. Cannot wait for it to happen. Some questions though? What can we expect out of Mario Maker 2? Also, what kinds of Multiplats could we see on the Switch and why? Who do you want to see for Third party reps in Smash? And Lastly What do you think about Microsoft and Nintendo collaborating for Rareware reasons, particularly on the Rareware N64 library being on the Nintendo Switch and getting a Rareware character in Smash?
DinoPulse
2018-06-10 18:39:38 +0000 UTCHi all. If we don't see it at this E3, when do you think we will see the mobile Zelda game that was mentioned last year? Could you see Nintendo working on that at the same time as a traditional top-down game AND the follow-up to BotW? L&R

2018-06-10 18:26:22 +0000 UTCGreetings panel, In the next few weeks, Tatsumi Kimishima will step down as President. What impact do you feel he's had during his term and has his direction (however limited his changes may have been) been a good one for Nintendo? Do you feel like his influence has/will have any effect on Nintendo's E3 presentation?
AlliterativeArts (Eric Faust)
2018-06-10 18:22:05 +0000 UTCHi Allies! With all of the first party titles having been released or on the way, what are the chances of an explosive 3rd party reveal? A couple above have mentioned a square RPG (other than Octopath) but I'm thinking something more along the lines of a 'play first on Switch' kinda deal. Also, gotta say, great job with the coverage of E3 so far. Even though it's only been one, you somehow managed to allow us to enjoy a pretty terrible conference!
2018-06-10 18:21:11 +0000 UTCHey panel. Do you think the Smash reveal will focus entirely on characters and just show gameplay of basic multiplayer matches, or do you think they'll at least tease any new game modes or features?
James Anderson
2018-06-10 17:57:46 +0000 UTCDo any of you know where the term “Shadow Drop” came from. I had always associated with the Easy Allies crew but have heard it from other outlets more and more.
2018-06-10 17:53:31 +0000 UTCHi Damiani and other fine gentlemen, First of all, I am so excited for this segment! I don't really know Gamexplain besides Ash because of previous Friend Code episodes. But he was absolutely amazing and I am sure the other Gamexplain guys will be awesome. Also Jonathan was great at the other friend code, so this will be one amazing hour. For my question, will it be disappointing if Retro announces a new game this E3 and it will just be another Donkey Kong game? To me it seems after all the buzz about Star Fox Grand Prix another 2D Donkey Kong might be less exciting. I know it's just a rumor (with several people backing that up) but even before those rumors, people were talking about Retro possibly reviving another franchise or maybe even work on a new IP. Imagining that announcement is getting me much more excited than another 2D Donkey Kong. Not because it's a bad game but because Tropical Freeze just got released again on Switch and after years of development it would be a bummer to wait possibly another couple years for a new game by them. I haven't actually played DK: Tropical Freeze yet so this might be a little biased question. But it was something I was wondering about when you were talking about Grand Prix last Friend Code episode. L&R, Jaco
2018-06-10 17:51:29 +0000 UTCCan you think of any lost franchises that are ripe for revival or modern takes? My two are Star Tropics and Mole Mania
Zugdar
2018-06-10 17:46:49 +0000 UTCDoesn’t the possibility of a Star Fox racer over a new F Zero feel like Nintendo is cannibalizing their own IPs? Wouldn’t its success encroach on F Zero’s potential for a new installment?
2018-06-10 17:43:50 +0000 UTCWith Square having created a division devoted entirely to Nintendo Switch games, do you think we will see a proper sequel to Super Mario RPG? May not be at this press conference, but I think it would be a perfect revival.
Witt Fesmire
2018-06-10 17:38:48 +0000 UTCSorry, just thought of a second question. =P Hi panel, something has been dogging me concerning the Switch. We all have talked about how the Switch will eventually replace to 3DS, but what we have seemingly overlooked is the accessibility of the price difference. We often have only looked at this from a gaming enthusiast point of view, but if you're buying for a family of 5, how likely are you to think that siblings will share a single Switch for Pokemon? On any plane trip I will see large families, each kid with a 3DS. While I think selling the Switch without a dock is a huge step toward filling these customers, I still see this as a coming storm that Nintendo HAS to see on the horizon for Pokemon Switch. Am I blowing this concern outta the water, or is this a real problem? L&R, Justin

2018-06-10 17:32:35 +0000 UTCDo you think there will be any Zelda or Mario representation on this direct besides Smash Bros.?

2018-06-10 17:31:42 +0000 UTCWhat was your reaction to the Virtual Console not being on the Switch and how do you think Nintendo will handle retro games going forward?
2018-06-10 17:31:36 +0000 UTCWhat games do you think are going to be brought up from the Wii U? Wonderful 101 and Mario Maker?
GenWoofles
2018-06-10 17:31:15 +0000 UTCSo Digital Foundry showed Mario Galaxy running on a Tegra Chip (Nvidia Shield, similar to Switch). Is it possible Switch is getting up rezzed GameCube or Wii games?! 😱 the technology seems to be there! Could it be something for the Direct? L&R - Hugo Kalm from Sweden

2018-06-10 17:30:03 +0000 UTCOne of the big questions about the new Smash is if it’s truly new or just a port. My question is what makes a Smash game “new”? It can be argued that each iteration is a port of the previous one. What about each iteration makes it a “new” game for you? For me the new smash needs one or two new modes, a few mechanic changes, more new levels compared to old levels and about ten new characters (give or take).
2018-06-10 17:24:39 +0000 UTCSmash Bros and Nintendo Online Hello Allies and honored guests! While I regret to admit my love for Smash Bros has waned since Melee, I'm looking forward to Smash on the Switch and know Nintendo has got a lot riding on it this Fall. My question is if this release is supposed to coincide or come very close to the launch of Nintendo's online service, what features and or services do you expect to accompany Smash Bros as an online game? It's certainly a great party game but to me, I'd love to see a better experience for players who might just play online more and not necessarily have the opportunity to play with friends locally all the time. What does Nintendo's online service need to do to prove they can offer a quality online experience for a tentpole MP game such as Smash? Love and respect, Jared from KC

2018-06-10 17:24:02 +0000 UTCHonestly, Nintendo would have to make a far better solution than just making adapters for wired controllers. It's not a very portable solution. I feel like they are either going to make a wireless gamecube pro controller, or tell you to figure it out yourself unfortunately. Hopefully it's the former.
2018-06-10 17:20:40 +0000 UTCHi panel! I would like to talk about the GameCube controller adapter. We are now talking about a near 20yo controller that Nintendo are continuing to adapt to current generations. Granted, I'm in the same boat as I'm also the kind of person that can't feel right if I don't have this controller for Smash. I actually returned the 3DS version because I had too many issues playing with the "diamond" button layout. But now questioning Nintendo's mindset concerning this controller. The main reason this controller is necessary is the button layout. It's primarily designed for action games and RPGs, and only suffers for fighting games like Street Fighter. When I compare this to Nintendo's other decisions like Virtual Console, this feels like an outlier. I worry that at some point, Nintendo will just kill this effort to support the controller. At the same time, I really like this layout and would like to see them add the button layout to a Joycon or a Pro Controller. Does the panel have any feelings on this controller on Switch one way or the other? L&R, Justin

2018-06-10 17:18:37 +0000 UTCWe know that Nintendo is interested in lending their IP to other companies, see Mario + Rabbids. We also know that Square Enix is working on multiple new Switch RPGs. What are the chances that one of these is a Mario RPG sequel, and along with it we get Geno in Smash. I know this is a dream scenario, but dangit I need some of those Huber dreams! I would also love something like Chrono Break with Frog in Smash. Dream with me guys!
2018-06-10 17:14:47 +0000 UTCFollowing Nintendo's track record of alternating Full-3D and Topdown-2D Zelda, do you expect anything new regarding the next 3DS Zelda game?
2018-06-10 17:14:32 +0000 UTCWith it being confirmed that Pokemon Let's Go will be playable at E3, do you think we'll hear more about them in the Direct? Specifically, about how Trainer battles and leveling work? (Also, personally, if your starter Pikachu can be female, since the genders have different in-game sprites.)
2018-06-10 17:14:26 +0000 UTCWill there ever be cross save or save data transfer between the Switch and Wii U? I love Hyrule Warriors and have invested over 100 hours on the Wii U. I dread the idea of starting over on the Switch.
2018-06-10 17:14:15 +0000 UTCSo many games are expected. What the heck could surprise?

2018-06-10 17:13:18 +0000 UTCHello Eza and awesome guests! Do you think third parties will have a big switch exclusive? Or ports is the most we can expect?

2018-06-10 17:11:35 +0000 UTCBoth STARFOX and FZERO are beloved franchises by fans as well as Nintendo/Miyamoto but unfortunately never really had the commercial success of a Mario, Zelda etc. Since both exist in the same "universe" already might this (the supposedly STARFOX racer) be an attempt to keep both franchises alive without investing huge ammounts of $$$ in two separate games? What is your take on this game? L&R from my couch in Germany
2018-06-10 17:09:37 +0000 UTC1-2 Switch was a tech demo I wasn’t able to experience due to a $60 price. However, I always like these collections from Nintendo to showcase what the hardware is capable of, especially in ways that develops aren’t ultilizing. Any chance we see another tech-based collection or just a price drop for 1-2 Switch?

2018-06-10 17:08:37 +0000 UTCOver the past couple of years nintendo have created new ip:s in new genres. Real time strategy with pikmin, shooter with splatoon and fighter with arms. Is there a genre that you want nintendo to try their hands at and whould you prefer it being handeld with a new ip or by creating a spin of from a existing one? Love and Respect.
2018-06-10 17:07:26 +0000 UTCHi all! What is a prediction everyone else seems to be convinced is coming, but you just can't see it? Have a great E3!
2018-06-10 17:07:13 +0000 UTCLast year's Nintendo E3 Spotlight promised a focus on games for fall and holiday 2017, but we still got trailers or announcements for Kirby (2018), Yoshi (2018/2019), and Metroid Prime and Pokemon (2019 for the "core" RPG). This year's E3 Direct is again promising to focus on 2018 and Super Smash Bros., but what announcements do you think we'll see for games that are still 1 or 2 years away?
Daniel Matos
2018-06-10 17:07:10 +0000 UTCwhat are the chances of a dormant Nintendo IP returning this year? I would love to see Punch-Out make a return. But what are the chances we see "Sin and Punishment, 1080, or even Star Tropics return?
2018-06-10 17:06:24 +0000 UTCDo you think Nintendo will push the competitive scene of Smash more with Smash(2018). In the same vein, will they try to bring back the Smash Melee community back into the mix, and do you think they will or even can succeed?
Zuldark
2018-06-10 17:06:21 +0000 UTCHow's the pannel feeling about the Mario Sports genre? The recent beta for Mario Tennis Aces got me even more excited for the game, and I've always felt that the Switch would be a great place to have a new Mario Strikers and another sports mix game like Mario Sports Mix (I think it's important to note that Next Level games have been quite silent lately and that Mario Sports Mix was co-developed with Square Enix too).
2018-06-10 17:06:05 +0000 UTCDo you think we’ll see Nintendo lean into Labo at all in their Direct? What do you think they have to do to make it a mainstream product on the level of Amiibo?
Jesse Freeman
2018-06-10 17:05:21 +0000 UTCDo you think we'll see any sort of tease of Monolift Soft's new IP? Whether it be in the direct itself or on the Treehouse livestream.
2018-06-10 17:02:52 +0000 UTCA beautiful new 2d mario is definitely going to be shown. As is pikmin 4. Also F-Zero. But what won't be shown?
2018-06-10 17:02:24 +0000 UTCWhat Smash characters will be added?
Sean Teater
2018-06-10 17:01:50 +0000 UTCWill the new Nintendo CEO reveal himself? Will he be active in Nintendo community events and announcements or will he act more reserved?
Alejandro Orozcoborrego
2018-06-10 17:01:21 +0000 UTCHi Everyone, Nintendo told us a new Fire Emblem game is supposed to be coming out in 2018. With Awakening, three versions of Fates, Echoes, Heroes, and Warriors all releasing in the last five years how do you think Intelligent Systems will try to make this entry standout?
Joey
2018-06-10 17:00:59 +0000 UTCDo you think Metroid Prime 4 gameplay will be shown this year? Do you think it will be called Metroid Prime 4 or something else entirely? I for one would love if they ditched the numbered names in favor of something new, or bringing back the Metroid Dread title. That name is just too cool not to be used sometime, but maybe that fits better with the 2D entries. Speaking of which do you think another 2D Metroid will be announced this year?
2018-06-10 17:00:04 +0000 UTCWhat are your hopes and dreams for the retro games we'll be able to play through Nintendo's Online Service? Do you think the E3 Direct will bring in more exciting news and potentially more platforms playable than just NES?
2018-06-10 16:59:41 +0000 UTCDo you expect some new system features announcement for Switch, or it will be just games?
Alexander Zyryanov
2018-06-10 16:58:55 +0000 UTCHey Damiani, Jonny, and GameXplain crew! We have a pretty good idea of the rest of Nintendo's road map for the rest of the year, with Smash, Let's Go Pokemon, Yoshi, Fire Emblem (maybe?), and the rumored Star Fox Grand Prix as notable first party titles to round out the year, in addition to the third party exclusive Octopath Traveler coming in about a month. However, Nintendo support was noticeably absent in EA's show (specifically regarding Madden and NBA Live as well as both upcoming EA Originals). Which leads me to my question: What kind of third party showing, if any, are we expecting in their presentation on Tuesday? Or will 2018 be largely carried by first party titles? As always, L&R
2018-06-10 16:56:35 +0000 UTCWhat third-party game from last generation (excluding GTA V) do you wish to see announced for the Switch? For me personally I would love to see Dishonored and Dragons Dogma
D.M. Deyo
2018-06-10 16:55:54 +0000 UTCDo you think Nintendo will ever again do their main E3 presentation in front of a live audience or will even more companies adopt the shorter prerecorded Nintendo Direct format. Given that Nintendo now occupies the last 'main conference' slot, I feel that they even make live a little easier for people that all conferences since Saturday.

2018-06-10 16:55:26 +0000 UTCAny thoughts on the format of this year's E3 Direct? It's been a few weak years since Nintendo put some real production muscle into their presentation in the realm of Reggie fighting Iwata for Smash or muppets presenting Star Fox.

2018-06-10 16:55:26 +0000 UTCWhat would the panel think about a new Zelda game announced that would still be built out of Breath of the Wild's engine and assets, similar to a Fallout New Vegas? Another team could have been developing a completely different game off of the same technology for years at this point, perhaps with a more linear but still open progression. So what does the panel think? Would Miyamoto even allow something like this? Would nintendo announce it so soon if it does exist? L&R - Michael

2018-06-10 16:55:18 +0000 UTCWas the starfox grand prix leak just an elaborate ruse to throw us off an F-zero reveal? Maybe still with retro behind it?

2018-06-10 16:55:07 +0000 UTCHowdy! I was wondering, why do you think Nintendo has decided to rebrand their e3 showing into a Nintendo Direct? Last year we had a Nintendo Spotlight, 2014 and 2015 we had Digital Events. Do you think this implies that the presentation will in any way be different than last years? L&R, GmanSir.

2018-06-10 16:52:55 +0000 UTCHey Panel! Do you see Nintendo doubling down on the Minecraft cross play with Microsoft by adding more games with Multiplayer cross play to the Xbox?
2018-06-10 16:52:53 +0000 UTCAny chance for a new Luigi's Mansion on Switch?
Ville Ranto
2018-06-10 16:52:12 +0000 UTCDo you see the Switch's library of games playing out any differently from how the third party offerings on the Wii or Wii U eventually turned out? From my point of view they primarily tried to port over games with downgraded graphics, which we have seen from Bethesda and Rockstar. Other Switch ports for games seem to face rocky development or have to be delayed like Dragon Quest 11 and Valkyria Chronicles 4. Indie, lower budget, and portable-friendly games will thrive, but will any publishers ever devote resources to major Switch exclusives besides Nintendo, or will portability always be its only major draw vs the competition?

2018-06-10 16:48:05 +0000 UTCWith Nintendo not showing any of the Fire Emblem switch game since it’s announcement in February 2017, is it possible that the game is a drastic upgrade from the 3DS titles, and they wanted to wait and blow people away. Is fire emblem switch a new push for the franchise to be a bigger Nintendo IP reaching a wider audience.

2018-06-10 16:46:24 +0000 UTCQuestion: Is there anything that you strongly believe is coming that you think Nintendo should NOT show off? 2018-06-10 16:45:38 +0000 UTCBased on Nintendo’s interest in extending their support of the Switch beyond their typical 5-6 years console life, do you expect to see more of a mid-console generational bump such as with the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X, or do you expect them to approach the Switch similarly to how they did the DS and 3DS, with multiple iterations across its lifespan?
