Frame Trap - Episode 67 "High Noon"

There are definitely a lot of people who work a lot more and make a lot less

Concerning the Hottake. Don't misunderstand me, I'm all for reasonable worker conditions and improvements can always be made but I think its harder to make the case when so many other jobs have similar expectations. I grew up on a farm and my family is still very active in that industry. For dairy, we have 10-12 hour work days which is the norm because you have to. It gets even worse during harvest times which stretch from May to November. Throw in crappy market prices and your 60 hours work weeks earn you a net loss and debt you hope you can absorb until your broke. Medical caretakers are under a similar situation. My friend takes care of a couple of disabled gentlemen and he cannot be out of town overnight because their are no willing people around capable to take the night "on call" shifts. Nobody regrets their current position as they have adapted to make it work for them. I have plenty more examples and I wish they did not exist but just something to consider in the bigger picture as these problems are not isolated to an industry but as a culture as well.

I always looked at micro transactions as way for the company to recoup their losses because in north America games only cost $60 for a AAA game that should cost more.

I take Ian's bait πŸ™‚ You know, I love your work guys, I follow you since GT times and the day you announced GT was going to end I felt genuinely sad. And as soon I knew of EA I jumped right in. Your general positivity is a rarity in the gaming dialogue but... it does suck the way you guys often talk about the Xbox, as someone who owns a Switch/Pro/X I do feel it's a shame you fell into this zeitgeist of negativity. And regardless of all the issues, at the end of the day I look at Cuphead, Ori, Sunset Overdrive, FH3 & 4 and they are among the best games I've played this gen. Plus the X and Gamepass are good enough to make the Xbox my main system in 2018. Ah btw, if you haven't you should try D4, a Suehiro game that's was kind of ignored, and now abandoned, and it's definitely worth playing.

I understand they wanted to set a deliberate pace, but one of my main criticisms is that it actively wastes your time, artificially. So many things take time that are completely unnecessary (looting, skinning, hunting, your camp) and I feel like Rockstar tried to make "an experience" instead of making a fun game. I'm 12 hours in and I am only having fun with the story missions and talking to my gang. Everything else feels like tedious chores. And the controls are awfully designed. If you are just figuring things out 60 hours in (Jones mentioned that, not you), that is bad design. They are cumbersome as hell and it feels like they are constantly fighting you. I am seriously shocked that this game received so many "perfect" scores.

Guys, the Hottake discussion was awesome and very meaningful. You can definitely upload this section many so people can understand this terrible situation, extra work should not be a Standard by all means. Reviewers should have more time to do their reviews and devs should have their time to take rest. Like Ian said, someone's vision not mine's. Now, of course they must be very proud of RDR2, but there has to be another way.

I also skipped the 45 minutes of CoD last episode on top of the 45 minutes of RDR2 this time. They're just the 'biggest' games right now so I guess it's whatever.

VGJunky

If you genuinely want to help people in the games industry who are suffering from crunch then please, please, you must keeep talking about it, you cannot treat it as something that you talk about today because its about RD2 and then in a couple of weeks it is no longer interesting to talk about. The only way to change things is to affect the minds of people and for that you need to keep reminding them what their entertainment is paid with.

erni

Having to skip 45 minutes of a great podcast sucks... Another strike against RDR2. Jones you say you didn't notice balance problems in Shadow of War but then why did they rebalance drops after removing the transactions?

Chris H

I love RDR2 I was very surprised about how divisive the game is with people, but after spending 20 hours in it the game is very heavy and slow paced so i understand why. But its very interesting.
