Spoiler Mode: Castlevania Season 2 Q&A

Just in time for Halloween, Brad and Damiani (and possibly other Allies) will be meeting up to record a Spoiler Mode for the recently released second season of Netflix's Castlevania. Just like with the Daredevil Spoiler Mode, we want you to submit questions that you'd like us to tackle during the discussion.

L&R

- Damiani

Isn't Dracula a bit sad in this second season? I know he lost his wife, but he is so sulky and whiny. Should have have been more of a threat?

Claus Larsen

I've heard people comment on the pacing of the season. What's your take? Personally, I liked it. A lot of talking, people trying to cope with their issues for 6 episodes and then in ep 7 an explosion of awesome violence to one of the series' most memorable tracks. And then that gut wrenching conclusion of Dracula realizing how destructive his grief is being. It's edging done right.

Guy Incognito

If you could add ONE THING from Castlevania lore (or the games) in a potential future season of the show, what would it be? Either a Easter Egg or something more substantial.

Stephen Swirsky

First, I love season 2 and how Dracula was portray as a broken man/monster. One of my favorite portrayals of Dracula and a beautiful end. My question is if other seasons are made should Dracula be revive like in the games or should he stay dead? Maybe focus on other boss enemies, i.e. Death (I wish he was part of his consul). What other monsters/enemies would you like to see or have an important role in other seasons?

OK I have a slightly juicy question, and I am expecting it not to be answered. How do you feel about the lack of representation of Christianity that is typically tied to the series? The only form of it was really a very corrupt Church that obviously used the nama of God to commit horrid things, however, Belmonts are typically holy warriors that use elements of Christianity to kill Dracula. Things like the Holy Cross or Holy Water weren't even used by Trevor, and he never once spoke of God. I understand this direction but I feel that this is the one thing that didn't stay true to the source material... but honestly it doesn't take away from the series. I know you guys don't do religion and I am typically grateful for that. I was just thinking in this one instance, it is something that is hard to just ignore since it is basically the foundation for the fight of good vs evil when dealing with Dracula.

Jeffrey Tessar

Hey Allies, Season 2 was chock full of dialogue and exposition, do you think this was at the expense of action or helped amplify it when it actually did happen? Also, what was your favorite bit of dramatic dialogue? Mine was Alucard to Trevor: "You're either the last son of a warrior dynasty, or a lucky drunk. Which is it?"

Christopher Canberg

Do you feel that the extreme jump in the partys ability to take down monsters hurt the series at all? I personally feel that the pace of them finding some OP spell that Sypha all but mastered in a matter of minutes to rushing into Draculas castle felt like a series that wasnt sure it would get renewed for another season. Honestly, they could have slowed down a lot especially given that the episodes were so short.

One simple question, WHERE THE F WAS GRANT!? Side question, did you guys notice the device that moved the castle was basically the save room symbol that is in SOTN? So many little shout outs in a show that is basically a huge shoutout!

Jeffrey Tessar

Hey Allies, I know these are several questions but they're all related: How important to you is eventually seeing Simon Belmont? Do you think he's unnecessary and/or boring, or do you think he needs to make some kind of appearance down the line since he is the original vampire hunter? Do you think they should do any sort of time jumps at all or just stick to the current setting? Love and Respect Always, Tanner Methven

Tanner Methven

Hello Allies, I did enjoy the second season, and think it had a great payoff. However how do you feel about half of the series having a lot of dialogue and little action? Love and Respect.

Gonzalo Ruiz

While I think they need to use more CV music, boy when Bloody Tears comes on while storming the castle it was an amazing "payoff feeling.

Rowsdower

One thing that disappointed me in Season 1, and I'm glad they improved on (if only slightly) in Season 2, was the lack of classic Castlevania music. How did you all feel about the music in season 2? Do you think it would've been better to put in a few more classic songs, or that the sparse use helps those moments feel more 'earned?'

faqsimil

Sypha's spell casting was very reminiscent of the bending done in Avatar. Do you think the creators took any inspiration from Avatar when designing Sypha's casting animations?

Rinder86

While the end of Season 2 hints at Curse of Darkness being adapted for Season 3, what do you think will come next? Specifically, do you think we'll get Christopher Belmont's story from Castlevania: The Adventure and Belmont's Revenge adapted, or do you think they'll skip over it like Lament of Innocence and jump right into Simon's story?

CyberLink420

Let's talk about Hector and Issac.

In a recent interview it was hinted that a time jump may occur for season 3, what are your thoughts on this? I personally believe it would be awesome to see different Belmonts and side characters.

ssps87

I'd be curious to see some speculation about this one too. It seemed like they might be setting up to pull more from Curse of Darkness with Isaac, Hector, etc. They could do another season with Carmilla and Isaac as antagonists, and maybe set up Dracula's resurrection at the end, allowing for a jump forward to Simon's time if there was a season 4. Since they've mentioned Leon in the lore, I wouldn't mind flashes back to his time either if they wanted to draw more from Lament of Innocence.

Nicholas Bobbie

The fight scene was in the 2nd last episode. Last episode is mainly setup for next season.

Nicholas Bobbie

(2) during the fight, when they enter 'his room,' does that seem a little bit weak as far as storytelling...he kinda just gives up. Or is the love for his wife sufficient for it?

Don't want to spoil anything for people who accidentally read the comments...but (1) How excited can you be for a season 3 after the ending?

I'm loving the turn out of spoiler modes guys, keep it up.

POKEY CLYDE

Hot damn, season 2 was amazing. My questions are: how involved will Alucard be in season 3, if at all? And will we see Grant join Trevor and Sypha?

What did you think of the “winding down” in episode 8 as the season was wrapped up?

Duff

What do you think the season’s ending means for the prophecy of Dracula’s return and The Belmonts’ Destiny to stand against him?

Duff

I really liked Season 2, in spite of so many non-action episodes. The fights made going through the more "peaceful" episodes more than worth it. The last fight against Dracula was just simply brilliant and spectacular - everything Daredevil's Season 3 final fight should have been, but wasn't, unfortunately. I really liked that the writers used both Isaac and Hector from Castlevania: Curse of Darkness, it is a game a lot of people missed out on just because it is a 3D Castlevania, so it was great to see them get some highlights. Plus Carmilla, which is always great with all her scheming and betrayals. Another highlight from Season 2 was the relationship between Trevor and Sypha, which didn't felt forced, but natural as time went by. The other one was Dracula's feelings and monologue during the final fight, it really drove home how much sadness and sorrow he was in - even throughout Season 2 you see how much disinterest he has for anything anymore, he just wants Humanity to end, but he doesn't care about anything anymore. That is, untill he's about to kill Alucard, which was a great moment, I felt more empathy and sorrow for Dracula than anyone else in the entire series. Second place was Alucard at the end, he kept holding it all together untill the end, but when all was done, he just couldn't keep his feelings in any longer. Two of the best moments in the series for me. From all the Castlevania games, we all know Dracula always resurrects. My question is, do you guys think the writers will work Dracula's resurrection into the show? And if so, on a Season 3 or perhaps they will save it for a potential Season 4? L & R

Daniel Ribeiro

Episode 7!!!

Victor Ko

What do you guys make of the choice to end it on quiet tears? I think I liked it but maybe for the wrong reasons. Did it work for you?

Max Barrow

Does the panel think the pacing of Season 2 might push people away from finishing it, and should they have found more ways to break up the talk heavy episodes?

MBUN

If we get a season 3 do you think they will continue this storyline, or jump to another Belmont? What would you rather see?

What do you think about them killing Dracula in S2? Too soon? Just right? Do you care about the other villains they’re hyping up for S3?

I love these spoiler mode qanda post

Ibrahim Sozer

But in all seriousness... ... ... ... Eff, Marry, Kill - Trevor, Sypha, Alucard

Andrew Silverman

I watched the last episode 3 times, good stuff. I have a hot take, Assuming Netflix low budget is the reason for such low frame rate animation, Do you think this hampers a series from becoming timeless. Like I said, I watched the last episode 3x, that fight scene and the music is amazing, but the animation still bothers me enough to make it just a flash in the pan series, will not be going back to re watch this whole show but looking forward to season 3 and I assume that is all Netflix cares about. Much better then season 1, so maybe this is just something that will take time to get better.

YO HOW SICK WAS THIS SHOW

Andrew Silverman

What was your favorite fan service nod from Season 2? Outside Episode 7 when the music kicks in, I’d say it was Episode 2 when the bosses from SOTN Slogan (bird guy with spear) & Gaibon (Gargoyle) show up and fight

Greg Kettering

What lessons can other video game adaptations take from this series?
