Red Dead Redemption 2 Spoiler Mode Questions
Added 2018-11-16 21:02:43 +0000 UTCThis is very last minute, my apologies. I want to try something new with this Spoiler Mode (that we're shooting any minute now) and take some of your questions at the end. So throw them up here and I'll check this post when we're done discussing our playthroughs. Please only leave ONE QUESTION, or understand that's all we're going to read in the Spoiler Mode. I'm sure all of you have wonderful stories to tell but I'm predicting this is going to be a long one, and I want to keep the discussion limited to us answering questions. I'll also delete this post after we take questions so people don't post them later today and get frustrated when they're not included.
Also, there are bound to be spoilers in the comments below, so read them at your own peril. That said, FIRE AWAY!
EDIT: "Ky Alexander Pennant" was the last question we grabbed for the video. I'll keep this post up so people can talk about the game here. Apologies if we missed your question. I got as many in there as I could without making the video too long.

2018-11-18 01:31:40 +0000 UTCFavourite shotgun? Favourite shotgun!
2018-11-17 21:30:33 +0000 UTCDo you feel Arthur Managed to surpass John as the best Rockstar character? For me I personally left this game relating more to Arthur and his inevitable doom. The confrontation with his own demise is something that video games do not tackle often, this is a character who knows he is going to die and you can feel the inner turmoil because of it. Personally when Arthur Kicked it, i almost had a repeat of RDR1 where you take over as Jack, the lesser characters in terms of enjoyment, only this time John felt lesser to Arthur.
2018-11-17 20:41:22 +0000 UTCIf GTA is like Red Bull then is Red Dead like coffee?

2018-11-17 03:26:20 +0000 UTCThere’s no way you will get to this question, but please discuss how you felt about the gang’s celebration moments, where everything is put on hold and everyone drinks, sings, and lets loose. I can’t understate the impact these moments had on me, how alive it made the gang feel to me. But I want to hear your experiences with these scenes, and how you acted during them. Thanks!

2018-11-17 01:53:29 +0000 UTCToo bad i'm too late, but i would've asked when in the Allies opinion Dutch started to break down and his mind and decisions started to deteriorate...

2018-11-17 00:20:25 +0000 UTCQUESTION: What’s your favourite mission? Mine is the one in Rhodes when the gang set off to rescue Jack from the Braithwaites. The way the music swells in the background as you all approach the mansion is f’ing ridiculous!!!
2018-11-16 23:57:20 +0000 UTCBased on where the characters are left off at the end of the game, which hypothetical Expansion would get you more excited? Sadie Adler: Bounty Hunter or Charles Smith: Adventures in Canada

2018-11-16 23:52:17 +0000 UTCHey guys, After playing the first Red Dead Redemption, we all knew Dutch was going to go down a dark path. In the beginning it was clear Dutch had strong pillars of morality that helped make him a charismatic leader. However in this story, his transition from a caring leader to a violent despot felt a bit abrupt to me. From Hosea’s death to killing a crazy old lady in Guarma, it felt as though I had missed an important story moment. What do you guys think? Did the transition of Dutch’s sanity seem empathetic? Love and Respect, Sungwon

2018-11-16 23:48:30 +0000 UTCI felt the game almost required you to get lost in it and is best enjoyed at a very slow pace. This doesn't exactly fit well in such an instant gratification society. While some of the complaints about the game are valid I felt some people might have mistaken this game for another Uncharted or Spiderman type experience. Those games are wonderful and there are plenty of them but I for one am glad that this game is so different. Flaws and all. Do you think this game is best enjoyed at a much slower pace and this is the reason for some of the complaints people have? Who like Kyle might have stuck to mostly the story missions and missed out on much of the depth the game had to offer? Having played through the game quite quickly yourselves for obvious reasons. Do you think burning through it makes it more of a chore because it wasn't intended to be played that way? Not that this addresses all of the complaints about the game. L&R

2018-11-16 23:16:36 +0000 UTCHowdy, fellow allies! I really loved to watch the interaction between each character inside Dutch's gang, as a matter of fact, so much that i've decided to make my question about them, and of course, my other favorite group: the Jone's . alliance. So within the 9 allies in the group, which one fits each character archetype the best? (choose between Dutch, Hosea, Arthur, Micah, Charles, Sean, John, Bill and Javier).

2018-11-16 23:02:41 +0000 UTCWhat part of the game made you the most emotional? If at all. Thanks, Kenji

2018-11-16 23:01:56 +0000 UTCHow did you feel about the political correctness that was present in the game? I found it a little jarring how some of the missions and dialogue were handled regarding women's rights, mental disabilities, and racism. I understand that in our modern time it is really easy to look at how backward people used to be. I feel as though Rockstar went out of their way many times to prove just how progressive Arthur was and it never felt natural to me.

2018-11-16 22:59:22 +0000 UTCWhat was the one thing you were expecting Rockstar to do based off experiences from RDR1 but didn’t?

2018-11-16 22:40:28 +0000 UTCGame had too much filler in the story, it was too long for no reason.

2018-11-16 22:38:07 +0000 UTCI haven’t beaten it yet, but I just wanted to comment that this is a fantastic addition to spoiler mode

2018-11-16 22:31:23 +0000 UTCDid you guys also feel like the feel of the game REALLY change once the Prologue started? Even walking around Saint Denis felt really different to me, any similar thoughts/feelings from the panel? What are your thoughts on that sudden change, if so? Personally I am still working through adapting, I guess it felt similar in Red Dead Redemption 1, but its been so long ago for me, I forget. Sorry about rambling at the end there, thanks for all you do, also, hey, my first Patreon comment ever! Yeehaw! EDIT: You dont have to read this if you pick my question, but I just wanted to add something I thought about after submitting this comment. A bit after Guarma, after the initial shock of “oh hey, cool new area, new animals!” I remember specifically thinking “They cannot have another mind-blowing moment like this, right?”. Back to me building my home as John Marston in a whole “new” area, as big as the first game’s map... touché.
2018-11-16 22:24:04 +0000 UTCHave you seen Gavin?
2018-11-16 22:20:25 +0000 UTCWith Red Dead Redemtion being the most divisive of the big games this year do you think long slow games are a hindrance more than a benefit since spiderman and god of war are both around the 20 hour mark. Red dead takes a good 10-15 hours for the story to pick up and around the same time to learn the controls. I loved Red Dead but can't argue with people who say its slow or has clunky controls.

2018-11-16 22:09:32 +0000 UTCWhat kind of life would you see Arthur choosing if he had a chance to redo it all?
2018-11-16 22:01:48 +0000 UTCDo you guys think that this game, with its huge world map and endless quests, was able to deliver on how intimate the game was meant to be, as designed and advertised, or did you ever feel disconnected from it all, if so do think the slow pace and the limited number of quest at a given time help in that ?

2018-11-16 22:00:33 +0000 UTCMaybe I've missed it, but I was really suspecting a post game quest/storyline seeing how much of the map had no story pieces yet but felt like there could be. Especially in the rdr1 area. Do you think Red Dead Redemption 2 is going to have singleplayer dlc contrary to GTA 5(maybe even adding rdr1 to this engine?)? Or is that area maybe reserved for an online story? L&R.
2018-11-16 21:58:20 +0000 UTCThough I'm a huge rockstar fan and 100%ed Red Dead Redemption 1, I have incredibly mixed feelings about Red Dead Redemption 2. Apart from the controls and core system which I struggled with, got more used to, then ended up struggling with again through the end, I mainly loved the story, however, I found the economy a big issue, which ruined the immersion for me. Dutch keeps going on about the money, and everybody agrees. Even towards the end whilst they are breaking apart the gang goes along with Dutch, presumably thinking If we do get the money, his plan could work. My problem is that even the first bank heist in Valentine (special/ultimate edition) earned the gang 10k in savings, and 10 k more split among those that helped with the mission. Adjusted for inflation, even "just" the 10k in the gangs savings translates into $300.000 in 2018. They live in tents and hunt for food, so I don't see where the money would go? Surely that amount of money in 1899 would be enough to pay off some captain to let 20 ish people on his boat to some other country? Also, upon completing the game, you have $20.000, and John mentions the debt is already payed off. That's $600.000, with no rent, no cost for food... Why doesn't he do anything with that money? What am I supposed to do with that money? The most expensive thing I've seen in the game cost like $200. What's your take on the economy?
GermanScientist
2018-11-16 21:56:33 +0000 UTCInteresting. To me it made Arthur's story arc complete. His redemption was only going to come about if John actually managed to get out and have a real life. Of course that doesn't last long, i.e. RDR 1, but for RDR 2, the epilogue is really Arthur's (Red Dead) redemption.
2018-11-16 21:51:59 +0000 UTCI want to know how you guys felt when you were riding around and Arthur suddenly collapsed in a coughing fit? Personally.....I started crying
2018-11-16 21:49:30 +0000 UTCDid you guys do the COMPLETE Downes storyline? It ends with Arthur giving them hundreds of dollars and really solidifies his redemption arc for me.
2018-11-16 21:44:04 +0000 UTCHow did you guys feel that Arthur Morgan’s story ended around the 70% mark? I feel as if the prologue dragged and took something away from Arthur’s story
2018-11-16 21:36:05 +0000 UTCOne of the things that struck me while I played the game is that unlike RDR 1, which felt more like a Western themed GTA (which I loved btw) that this feels much more like an actual WESTERN in all caps. The languid pace, the novel-like storytelling, and the focus on the hardships of late 19th century American life. I wonder if many of the criticisms of pace come from this. How did you guys feel about the much less artificial, more novelistic nature of Arthur's world in RDR 2 vs. John's more spaghetti Western, Hollywood-esque world of RDR 1.
2018-11-16 21:33:16 +0000 UTCWith Red Dead 2 over, where do you hope the story goes from here? Do we go back even further- to the more golden era of the west with a young Dutch and the formation of his gang ending in the 'incident' that ran them out of blackwater when the story of 2 begins? do we go forward and follow jack as the 1900s begin to unfold? What do you hope to see going forward now that this part of the backstory has been fleshed out?
2018-11-16 21:31:39 +0000 UTCHow do you feel about the music implementation of this game? Or what was your favorite track and why is it Willie Nelson's Cruel, Cruel World?
GenWoofles
2018-11-16 21:31:00 +0000 UTCOne of the bigger complaints in the original Red Dead Redemption that I can remember was being forced to play as Jack Marston after the story was concluded, even though most people wanted to continue playing as John. Now, in Red Dead Redemption 2, you are forced to play as John. Going into Redemption 2 I would have loved to hear that we would get to play as John since he's one of my favorite characters in games, but having played as Arthur for so long, I grew to like him maybe even MORE than John, meaning that I'm a little disappointed that I can't go back to playing as him. So my question is, do you think there is any way for Rockstar to switch playable characters late on in the game while keeping players happy?
2018-11-16 21:29:46 +0000 UTCWhat's your favourite random non quest encounters? For example mickey the one armed guy or gavin's friend
Ahmad Naqi
2018-11-16 21:29:33 +0000 UTCI loved this game, but at times I felt like it was going on for too long. Many side missions and maybe even some main mission, although filled with funny characters, just were kinda forgetable and didn't add anything to the overall story. And when I reached what felt like a playtime of about 60 hours I just wanted to see the end of this story. To be honest, I get this feeling every time I play a Rockstar game. Sure, some of the main story moments are great, but it often feels like there is a lot of "filler" in between so to speak. Did you ever feel that way while playing the game? Also, Arthur Morgan is such a great character. You could argue he is very similar to John Marston actually, but I think I like him even more.

2018-11-16 21:28:38 +0000 UTCHi Allies, I loved the story in RDR 1 and 2, and I was wondering before playing 2 how things will end for Arthur, my first thought was that he was going to die, and while playing I had the hope that he will have a happy ending in another country or something like that. Although I loved the ending and how things turned out, I would love to know about your thoughts about this, before playing the game, and if you would've changed something from the story regarding the fate of Arthur. L&R from Chile.
2018-11-16 21:26:32 +0000 UTCHi Allies. I was wondering what you thought about the tone of the game after Arthur gets TB and how it benefited by being a story beat in a videogame rather than a book, movie, etc. It probably took me 15 hours or more between the TB reveal to actually getting to the end of chapter 6 and I probably played 40 hours before that, as well. The sheer amount of time we spent with Arthur, both before that reveal and after - slowly watching Arthur change and fall victim to his illness - felt very unique to the medium to me as there's few mediums where you'd ever spend that sheer amount of time with a character. Also calling back to 'bad' things you did earlier in the game that the player probably didnt think too much about, because they thought they were just things that you -had- to do because it was a mission objective worked really well for me. They made Arthur's attempts to redeem himself feel way more substantial than I think it would in a TV series or film, or anything else, because they were things I did as the player and things that I found morally questionable myself, but also just felt like they were normalized things I had to do because "that's just the way it is." Thanks guys.
2018-11-16 21:25:57 +0000 UTCHow do you do feel about the morality of Arthur Morgan? He’s willing to kill anyone if it benefits himself but seem to completely abhor racism/slavery? Why do you think this is and what do you think happened in his life to determine right from wrong?
GenWoofles
2018-11-16 21:24:55 +0000 UTCWell, what makes this a 10 to someone like Brandon is maybe he doesn't agree with the take that the controls are awkward, the tasks tedious, and the missions, archaic.
2018-11-16 21:24:08 +0000 UTCI had a cutscene end prematurely and a quest disappear because bounty hunters spawned! :(

2018-11-16 21:23:45 +0000 UTCDid you ever feel like giving up on the story missions?
Sven Van Lathem
2018-11-16 21:22:46 +0000 UTCwhich hat was your favorite, I'm a Panama man myself

2018-11-16 21:21:39 +0000 UTCDo you think the fact that this game a prequel hurt or helped your enjoyment of the game and story?
James Rodriguez
2018-11-16 21:21:06 +0000 UTCWhat do you think about how the game handled complex issues like racism, slavery, the treatment of Native Americans, and capitalism in general?
2018-11-16 21:21:02 +0000 UTCHow did you guys feel about dutch at the end? He is constantly saying "One more job" "Have a little faith" and "We need more money" so much that it's become a meme. However, he never contributes and by the end betrays Arthur. So I just want some thoughts on how far Dutch has fallen by the end of RDR2 and if you think he truly became the guy he was in RDR1. IMO they pulled it off really well. This game was a masterpiece, look forward to your thoughts, thanks guys.
I hope you're doing well today
2018-11-16 21:20:17 +0000 UTCIf I have no interest in Rockstar games is this the one for me to play to give them a 2nd chance?
strawhatninja
2018-11-16 21:20:00 +0000 UTCWhat did you guys think about the Bounty Hunter system? I found it incredibly frustrating when you're on you're way to a mission and it get suddenly locked out because bounty hunters randomly spawned nearby. Did you ever find it frustrating or did you not mind it?
2018-11-16 21:19:13 +0000 UTCI believe that scene happens randomly early on whenever you decide to surrender to the police and go to jail rather than pay a bounty.
Kirbu
2018-11-16 21:18:09 +0000 UTCWhat was your reaction when you first entered Saint Denis? Personally, I was awestruck and had to spend the next two hours just wandering the streets and absorbing every detail.
2018-11-16 21:17:25 +0000 UTCI had to force myself to play a lot of the game, it reminds me of Shenmue in that yeah it simulates real life a lot, you can open every single drawer and find almost nothing of value... it feels like there are too many systems and in the end that bogs down the game and makes it a chore to play. did any of you feel this too? under it all theres an interesting cast and story but the wall to get over to get to that was high.
sam
2018-11-16 21:17:22 +0000 UTCRDR2 creates one of the most realized, detailed, and realistic open worlds ever made. It's cast of characters is broad, unique, and brimming with personality. Its story is intricate, detailed, and intriguing. However, it is all hampered by awkward controls, tedious tasks, and an archaic mission structure that will have you fail at the slightest bit of deviation from what the developers intended. My question is, how do you define a 10? What makes RDR2 worthy of a 10 despite it's flaws?
2018-11-16 21:17:10 +0000 UTCThe first gameplay trailer shows Arthur in jail, Dutch then blows a hole in the wall to free Arthur. I never saw that scene in the game, did any of you? Could it have been cut from the game or could it be from rdr online? Maybe rdr online is set pre blackwater
2018-11-16 21:17:07 +0000 UTCHAS ANYONE SEEN GAVIN?
Ville Ranto
2018-11-16 21:16:21 +0000 UTCIf the online portion of Red Dead Redemption was used to evaluate the game why wouldn't RDR2's online portion be considered while determining the game of the year?
2018-11-16 21:15:58 +0000 UTC1. How'd ya'll feel about the epilogue? 2. You have a rocketship time-capsule. Do you send this game, or The Witcher 3 to space for eternity. Why? 3. Did the lack of liars dice greatly impact your enjoyment of the game (as it should have?)
Paul Meekin
2018-11-16 21:15:23 +0000 UTCHey guys I found the ending to not be surprising at all. Did you feel disappointed at the end when Arthur died and John took over just like how the original game ended? I guess I understand why they had to kill his character due to him not being in the original game but I was expecting that. Could they have done it another way that was less predictable?
Megan Linart
2018-11-16 21:14:58 +0000 UTCWhat's the group's take on there being zero interplay between the gameplay systems (e.g. camp upgrades, morality, wellbeing) and how any missions play out? I never expected wildly different story outcomes due to them, but more voiced acknowledgements and changes to mission structure because morale is high or you bought camp upgrades would have been nice. Red Dead's story structure having zero connection to its gameplay decisions and open world systems and structure was more disappointing this time around when I compare it to where the rest of the industry is at.
Kirbu
2018-11-16 21:14:34 +0000 UTCWhat thing frustrated you most about RDR2?
Eric Jackson
2018-11-16 21:14:30 +0000 UTCHi Allies! What are your thoughts on how you feel, overall, about the quality of side content in this game. I feel like this game had some really, really amazing side content, and some of the side quests were written well enough to be considered at least close to the same level as something like The Witcher 3. Even though the quest design itself or the way the missions were set up could often be quite generic, I felt the writing was always strong enough, or the questlines always revolved around some incredible characters, for them to be able to stand out. For example, I felt characters like Charlotte the Widow, the artist in Saint Denis, Edith Downes, and Hamish Sinclair were all stars of some of the best quests in the entire game, optional or not.
2018-11-16 21:13:14 +0000 UTCI got horses. Good horses! Spend time and money on bonding and all that through the game. And then. Arthur takes my favorite personal horse companion with him in the grave. :( My girlfriend heard my cry, but i assured her that surely rockstar would’nt just tale my horses. Finishing the epilogue. Still havent gotten them back. Thoughts?? It hurts :(
2018-11-16 21:13:05 +0000 UTCWhat were some bad decisions the game forced you to make that really lingered with you? That conflicted with your vision of the character? Robbing the drunken Catfish Jackson and finding the letter from his estranged wife to his son that the game wouldn't let you give to the boy KILLED me. There's a letter, in my inventory laying out that this kids mother loves him and he can have a better life and I just have to walk away.
Dean Falletti-Velasco
2018-11-16 21:12:54 +0000 UTCAlot of the complaints about the games are about the roleplaying/simulation aspect of the game like cleaning your guns and taking baths. Did any of these things ended up changing how you would have played? For example did you view your horse differently and weapons or how you took care of yourself? Did it help you feel more immerse in the world?
Tristen Luu
2018-11-16 21:12:43 +0000 UTCDid it bother you that the game was slow at the beginning or you expected it to start like that ? I personally loved the progression of the story and how Dutch slowly losing control of the gang.
2018-11-16 21:12:20 +0000 UTCDo you think Arthur Morgan is Rockstar's best main character yet? I'd give him that title.
Ville Ranto
2018-11-16 21:12:10 +0000 UTCHi! Would love to know what you overall opinion on Dutch van der Linde is as a character after everything that goes down in the Epilogue up at Micah's hideout. To me that was one of the most surprising moments of the game, and overall just reflecting back on the two games as a whole...man, Dutch is a very complicated man.
2018-11-16 21:12:09 +0000 UTCHopefully spoiler-unrelated questions are okay: what do you guys think of a gunplay? I personally think GTA5's gunplay, weapon sounds and overall "feel" of everything shooting related is terrible. But, I absolutely love gunplay of Max Payne 3, and to me it feels like RDR2 is much more like Max Payne 3 in that regard, which is fantastic.
Sergey P.
2018-11-16 21:11:59 +0000 UTCWas it just me or did Arthur's death feel a little downplayed? Like oh he's dead now.
Kaleb
2018-11-16 21:11:56 +0000 UTCWhat was your favorite location that you found that had a story told through notes and visual effect? Mine was the Suicide cult that was a random cabin in the woods where by reading the crazy prayer you find out what the heck happened. Thanks lostrob
2018-11-16 21:11:18 +0000 UTCWhat do you think the odds are of getting story DLC and would you rather have it be during the game with Arthur or post game with John?
2018-11-16 21:11:06 +0000 UTCWhat was your favourite random grey dot on map character encounter?
2018-11-16 21:10:09 +0000 UTCWhat's somehing from RDR that you thought would show up in RDR2 but didn't?
2018-11-16 21:10:08 +0000 UTCWhy is New Austin on the map? Is it just because of nostalgia for all those Red Dead fans? Or is it for possible dlc or multiplayer integration.
Andreas Kleanthous
2018-11-16 21:09:17 +0000 UTCHey guys was wondering how you felt about the decision to block off areas such as tall trees Great Plains and new Austin until after the main story line and were you guys disappointed with no Mexico? Personally I thought no inclusion of Mexico made sense even though I would have loved to see it.
Brice Hornsby
2018-11-16 21:09:16 +0000 UTCDo you think we'll get a SP DLC like RDR1 did, maybe featuring Sadie or Charles? Or will they go the GTA5 route and just focus on online and shark cards?
Steve S
2018-11-16 21:09:15 +0000 UTCYour first encounter Murfree Broods? Lol
2018-11-16 21:08:08 +0000 UTCWhich of you went high honor vs low honor, and what changes, if any, did you notice in the late game as a result?
2018-11-16 21:08:05 +0000 UTCI know the other allies haven't finished it yet, but any idea what their opinion on the game is and if they're liking it as much as you.
2018-11-16 21:07:37 +0000 UTCGo to weapon loadouts? Which ones did you find in the world vs just unlocking in story missions?
2018-11-16 21:06:43 +0000 UTCWhich Chapter (including the epilogue(s)) did you each enjoy the most and what were some standout moments that make that the case?
Doug
2018-11-16 21:05:56 +0000 UTCI want to hear about your favorite camp/gang members and/or your favorite characters from stranger side missions. I loved Sadie and Charles.
