An interesting wrinkle on a detective story is where the audience already knows all the answers and is watching the detective trying to figure it out, such as in Dial M For Murder and Rope. It's just a neat inversion on the typical formula. But really, how can you guys talk about private investigators and not once mention the great Humphrey Bogart? Particularly where was the Maltese Falcon? This movie and Bogart's role in it IS the very definition of a hardboiled detective.

2018-09-18 20:13:41 +0000 UTCPushing daisies was made by Brian Fuller who also made Dead Like Me, which is probably what was being confused for Six Feet Under. DLM actually kind of has detective like elements as characters try to find the people whose souls they’re supposed to take. He also did Hannibal which features will Graham who is maybe not the best detective since he becomes friends with a cannibal. Brian Fuller also made Wonderfalls, which is an underrated gem few people have seen.
