A Note About Weekly Clips

After bringing up some key issues with the Easy Allies Weekly Clips, it's been decided to put the series to rest. We've discussed a few ideas for how to take some of the appeal of this show and apply it to some future ideas (like a yearly recap/highlight video and holding a vote for the top moments of the year and presenting it live), but the weekly iteration of this show is ending.

The conclusion is that for how long these take to produce they're not worth the payoff. Right now, only I produce the clips. It was an idea I wanted to try, but I never had any intention of staying as the sole producer of these episodes, especially as my workload has increased. I proposed that other Allies step in each week to take a crack at it. However with how busy everyone's workload has gotten, especially as we enter the busiest time of year for us with review coverage, this wouldn't work out.

We are at a point where we need to be more selective about what we're producing as we're pretty strapped for time. Obviously, if fans still want to make their own highlight videos, we encourage that. I appreciate the support and effort from those of you who participated in making clips over the past few months for this show. This wouldn't have been possible without that help.

Due to the amount of streaming content that eza produce and the separation between the YouTube and twitch audiences, I think this was one of the smartest initiatives eza have done to unify their content and I think they were fantastic. Also led to increased watcher engagement on twitch. I hope priorities can be reconsidered to make sure this can still be produced.

Daniel Slawson

Yeah I need to echo this as it's gone pretty much unsaid but they were just getting better and better and Damiani needs to be credited for that.

This is a serious mistake

Estaban

Hi EZA, just want to make the point that these clips serve as advertisement for the hours spent streaming. So something to consider is how when creating things it's also valuable to help promote it, otherwise you run the risk of having wasted effort. And because this is a series that doesn't appear to be specifically tied to the skills/personality of a particular member, I feel sad that Damiani was the sole producer. Understandably a person will run into especially busy times, so it's very hard for a weekly series to be sustainable without help to share the load with the group. Hopefully you'll reconsider the value of this series!

Sad for it to be done just when I felt Damiani was getting better at it.

MBUN

Clips are cool and all but its really not worth the time. Its the least compelling thing EZA makes. I'd rather they worry about the more important things for now. Twitch stream clips only was limiting in itself when a lot of the clip worthy moments aren't always on stream [LITTLE PIG LITTLE PIG] so its not even a sad loss for me. I like your idea of yearly highlights.

M I K E Y M O

I feel the need to echo the others, this is a dissappointing decission that makes little sense.

I love your guys content and I’ve never posted anything to the contrary, but as someone with limited time, Clips was basically the only way I could ever watch your streaming. Now without Clips, I’ll have to without. I just think this is a terrible decision and the reasons behind it don’t seem good enough to justify this change

Tired

Very unfortunate. I watched them every week.

Echoing the disappointment that clips are going - as a UK ally I'm rarely around when you guys are streaming, and relied on clips to catch the best bits of the stuff that I missed out on. Hopefully they can come back in some form.

These are hard but valid points.

Steven Beaumont

Clips was fine. Not surprising that people are a bit upset. Extremely surprising to see so many people say it was their Favorite piece of EZA content. Unusual. Unlikely. There are a million things i'd rather see happen before a consistant twitch highlight video is made a priority. It was always just something extra. L&R

Dan Allen

I hope you would reconsider. This has surely been an easy gateway to many new viewers to see what kind of people you guys are.

Ville Ranto

What a disappointment. I have been a patreon for some time now and never felt the need to express my opinion on how you operate your business - until now. As an international viewer, watching livestreams are not always an option and the bite-sized clips were always something to look forward to instead of trying to keep track of streaming schedules and whatnot. I am sad to see that I will experience further alienation because I don't have time to watch all the streams. To be frank I am pretty sure the outcome would be different, If you didn't stream as much FF14 with subpar viewership. After all, the job consists of compiling already-compiled clips by the community and I fail to see how the payoff isn't worth the effort. Not only did the concept do well on the youtube channel, but it evidently turned out to be a good entry for new folks and communicated the fact that you were close to your community. A lot of your shows have gone down the drain (Checkin' Out, Don't Skip, EZAnime etc. are pretty much dead now) but I truly believe that Clips was one of the more beneficial and accessible outlets. That being said, I am sure that this post itself needs more details and further context but I am sad to admit I will be pulling my patreon support for now. L&R

Minh Nguyen

Rethink the conclusion Damiani. L&R

I guess I don't really get all the comments saying this is "understandable". Nothing suggested in this post really makes sense to me. At a quick glance, the weekly clips videos do around 8K-12K views on average. This puts them on the same level of viewership as Huber Syndrome and Easy Update and well above some other shows like Tabletop Escapades. Are those shows not worth the "payoff" either? They surely take much longer to produce. On top of that, there is nearly 60 hours worth of Damiani streaming FFIV in the past few months. Those streams regularly pull less than 100 viewers and the Youtube archives are all under 300 views. Its really hard to accept that time is being allocated towards projects of higher value when this disparity exists. If time constraint is an issue, why not start with the frankly excessive amount of FFXIV streams that almost nobody is watching rather than cutting a show that gets thousands of views per week? I think the points raised in the post need a lot more clarity and explanation for this to make sense to the patrons. If you guys just don't feel like doing the show, you should say that. Its just extremely weird that the Patreon is performing at its strongest of all time and moves like this are being made.

Ah, that's a shame... for what it's worth I really did enjoy Clips. As someone who's rarely able to catch your streams live due to time zone differences they were a great way for me to see some of the highlights of your streams and decide which ones I want to catch up on the archives for.

Bynoe

Streaming seems to be the hot topic here, that's interesting. To add my 2 (or 10) cents, I think that the mandate that every Ally (except for Don and Ian) must stream on Twitch every week should go away. I think the Allies should only solo stream when they want to, while focusing their duties towards editing, reviewing, doing group streams, and other things they have to do. Solo streaming should not be a priority. Despite that, solo streams aren't all bad either. On the day after E3 2016 (my first exposure to EZA was through their E3 coverage), Kyle streamed Bosman v Wozniak, and I became hooked to EZA ever since that stream. I love Kyle's streams; they have a consistent Twitch audience who're very friendly and loving and respectful towards each other, and Kyle is very creative and unique with the bits and stuff he does on stream. I don't want his streams to go away, but perhaps some of the other Allies should reevaluate what they want to do, idk (although Ben is also creative and jolly with his streams, and he gets a consistent audience as well). I just don't want Allies to stream just because they feel forced to do it.

jif52

Seems like this came out of nowhere? It's worrying that at the studio level of support, a well liked weekly piece of relatively low effort content is being thrown away because nobody wants to do it.

Definitely sad to see this go - one of my fav shows! But completely understandable. Hopefully in the future there might be time to put a monthly version together of a similar episode length or something.

DancingElk

As a Fellow Clipper, It's kinda feels bad that it's going. Maybe I didn't make enough good clips, or too slow on the perfect moment. I'm really happy that Damiani was able to pick a few of mine and I was proud to see other clippers make some easy content to share to the Allies that missed out on a stream. Reading the comments here adleast makes me assured that everyone involved enjoy our efforts. I purely understand that it's a business move and I respect it. Time Management is key to the Studio and you need all of the allies' time. Maybe after the Studio is setup and they are past the 50K, maybe they can consider it, but I'm willing to let it go in order to have the Studio Move have a smooth transition. The Only Suggestion I could muster is Either What everyone else is agreeing with a monthly.....OR do a Superfast 1-2 Min Clip of EZA Memes that maybe people miss. The reference of Blood saying he'll be the head of Nintendo is an Awesome Clip people still need to see.

Mhee12

Like others have stated it's a shame the weekly clips is no longer sustainable. With limited viewing time the clips videos were always a treat to watch. Since I simply don't have to time to watch all the different streams it was great to get quick looks at what all the allies were doing during the last week. This all being said I understand the workload is a lot for the allies and if it has to go it has to go. I do hope when things slow down or new goals need to be added this series can return. Also please consider doing a clips show for the marathon streams, having a 3 part series for easy living 2018 was awesome. Much Love and Respect

cancelling clips is a really bad idea, its one of the only consistent short-form video series you guys had, it was different to most of what EZA produce and allowed community members to be involved also it was always fun to see what weird game kyle was playing each week. It sucks that some of the allies didnt want to be involved in the editing process. i really do hope it comes back as a monthly series at least, when there's a downtime, otherwise honestly i think hiring an editor is more important than getting a studio, if you guys are this busy.

Jesse Nye

I definitely think it would be more beneficial to turn this into a monthly or biweekly show instead of cancelling it altogether. I believe this would even make Clips more enjoyable as there would be more streams to pull from and could make the show more interesting if there was a slow or not as amusing week. Perhaps if other allies aren’t available or can’t edit the actual show some of them could help pick out the clips that are used and the order they’re placed to ease the burden of having to watch every single clip yourself from the whole month and then have to edit as well. Looking at the views of Clips and some of the other shows on the channel it seems like it was performing pretty well with the lowest view count at 8.5k and the highest was up to 15k. This can seem low I suppose compared to Reviews, the Main Podcast, Frame Trap, and of course Reaction videos but there are a lot of other shows on the roster which are performing worse compared to Clips. Maybe this is something that should be looked into it to see what can be done to bring views up on these other series you guys have if you’re going to cut something that performs better overall.

Kristen Rogers

I enjoyed watching the clips, i am not able to watch the vast majority of the Easy Allies Streams so it was nice being able to recap or see highlights of some of the moments. It used to make me feel more involved because unfortunately due to work and the time difference i can't catch many streams at all. I do understand your argument, it's a shame that it will end, i didn't know it took so much effort i thought it was one of the easier videos to produce but now i know it was sort of taxing. I will miss it :(

Bakryu

I usually don't have time to watch the live streams and loved the clips (as a means to still catch some of the highlights each week). Also, the interaction between patrons "clipping" their favorite parts and you editing them felt great. I am kind of sad you did not involve the patrons into the decision and just announced that the show has been axed - I, for one, would have advocated to rather cut some of the streaming content to gain a little more headroom to continue with the clips videos.

Camian

Well dang, this was one of my top favorite shows. With work and a baby, my wife and I can’t tune into regular streams. This made it feel like we were still a part of the stream audience in a way. I know you are all busy, but maybe this should be reconsidered, or made a mid tier goal ($51,000) or something.

Brandon Patton

Definitely sad to see this go, I always enjoyed watching them.

MarziiBarks

This is disappointing. Please try and do a bi-weekly clips or a monthly clips. It doesn't make sense to just cancel the show altogether when it's viewer number are more than regular streams, and it actually promotes other streams. This clip show should be reconsidered

Andrew Left

It's a sad but understandable decision. I just hope in the future you can hire someone to do things like EZA Clips that can be done by someone else (not one of the 9 allies) and yes, they may not be the most popular shows, but some thousands of us love them.

Considering how much time you guys spend streaming on twitch, it's by far the majority of the content you put out each week I would assume that a show highlighting these streams is a no brainer. It's just so weird to me to emphasize streams so much but then cancel your show which is emphasizing the streams.

klastical

Understandable but a shame nonetheless. I just cannot commit the time to watch streams. Clips was a perfect best of. Well done on the hard work to date.

Cabbagelad

Sad to see them go, but the reasons are solid. Thanks for being clear with the reason behind this.

César Villa

I just want to add my 2cents after reading the response to this, please don't be discouraged to try out new things. Clips was great and I watched every single one, loved them. Keep up the good work. Totally understand.

Never once watched it. So if you say the time isn't there, it's not there. Thanks for letting us know whats up!

Owen

I think it would probably be best to use your own instead of their official branding of one of their shows.

Kristen Rogers

I'll preface by saying I really enjoyed the clips and also that my perspective is probably not the most common around here... but here it is: When I joined Patreon to support you guys, it was about believing that whatever you guys did, I would probably enjoy (knowing I enjoyed your work while on GT). After some time I reevaluated how much I appreciated the content you guys produced and raised my pledge to something that I felt comfortable with and represented how much I liked your output. I did that before Clips was a thing. So, while I`'m bummed that the show is no more, I believe you guys will keep justifying my faith in your production. My point is, my support is reactive and even without Clips, you guys more than deserve it. I don`'t feel like restricting your ideas for new content or judging your decision in cutting content that isn't tied to goals. If you realized that Clips was impacting any other aspect of your work I take your word for it. If I end up feeling you guys don't deserve it, I'll react accordingly in the future. My only input right now is tell you I was one of the people that enjoyed it but also understand some of the criticism towards it.

Angelo D'Elia

Yeah after thinking about this, you really could’ve done a better job at presenting this news and the reasons you gave sound more like excuses. But you do what you feel is best.

A Joker Fan

Hi, Damiani. I understand the effort it takes is a lot and that now we've entered in the busiest period of the year for gaming reviews, but I also agree with Michael Chandler's comment. I really try very hard to watch most of the streams you guys do, but sometimes time is really short and being able to watch the Weekly Clips to at least see the "best moments" of the streams was incredibly awesome. It really helped with staying up-to-date with many memes, jokes and references, as well as showing things that I personally would never have seen, because of of the game or stream not being something of interest to me, or that I just didn't have the time to watch. In the end, I respect the decision, but if possible, please maybe consider bringing Weekly Clips, or a "Monthly Clips", back in the future when you're at a more relaxed time where there aren't many games being released. L & R

Daniel Ribeiro

For what it's worth, I totally get this decision. I think you can best put Easy Allies productions into two general categories - Things the fans want and things to grow the audience. I love Clips, but nobody is going to find Easy Allies by watching a clips video. A Clips video is never going to go viral or make the top of /r/games. It was something for the fans. If you look generally at the Easy Allies production output, I believe that it is mostly geared towards things for existing fans. Reviews are the pillar of the things meant to grow the audience, and E3 coverage is probably just as important, but other than that it's Game Sleuth and Retrospectives. There just isn't much else that is geared towards a general audience. Yes, those two series take a lot of work, but they're the best bet(other than reactions) of Easy Allies having something go viral and really take things to the next level. The running man episode of Game Sleuth came out on June 20th, 2016. According to Social Blade, the Easy Allies youtube channel had 52.2K subscribers the week before it came out. The week after, it had 65.33K subscribers. In my opinion, the only other thing that Easy Allies makes that could have that kind of impact is an E3 reaction video, and Easy Allies doesn't get to decide what games get announced each year. We may never get another press conference as good as Sony 2015. Besides which, much like Box Peek, I think the single most important thing that makes Easy Allies work is that we've enabled these guys to pursue what excites them creatively. If Clips was boring grunt work that produces videos that get less than 10K views and no growth, then as much as I love them, they should go.

Connor Rosine

This just seems like a really bad decision. Clip's and highlights from longer form content are going to be a likely source of new viewers and patrons. It was a gateway piece of content for attracting more viewers to streams. I would echo other's sentiments in the comments that the way this has been announced also has quite bad optics. Would be interesting to hear what is a more important use of Damiani's time. Because I've gotta say the recent 17 ish hours of video for a 16 year old MMO on the vod channel kinda stick out. If you guys are snowed under, might be a good idea to communicate that better to us and explain what's taking up your time. Would make accepting announcements like this a bit easier.

Diablo

Hey Damiani, I understand that editing is a TON of work (I do it for a living!) but I did just want to offer my perspective. For me I know I don't have time to watch every stream and I usually just watch the ones of games that interest me, but often I would watch the clip show and think "wow that was a funny moment, I should watch the rest of the stream." I'm sure there's others like me and maybe even though the clip shows aren't getting great numbers, I'm sure that in the big picture its helping the numbers of your other stream archive videos. All I ask is that you consider my perspective, but in the end it's the Allies choice. I love the clips but I understand that with your busy schedule that it can be just too much. Take care!

Dang I really liked them, hope they come back in the future

No worries for me honestly. This kind of 'bonus' stuff being cancelled can't really upset me as it was never a tier or anything. Also, these clips are watchable on Twitch btw.

Sven Van Lathem

I usually try not to complain with how EZA chooses to release content. But I must say this one hurts. I don't know your schedules and if you don't have time you don't have time. However, I thought these were wonderful for people who are unable to stream while at work. I felt like I could still be in the loop with EZA and the community with the clips. I do hope you reconsider.

Daniel Ray

Must admit I'm really sad about this announcement !! But I do respect your choice (Damiani and Allies) and will continue to support. I suggested in chat you'll do a "monthly" EZA Clips to lighten the load. And I'm one person who watches most of your content, beeing youtube or streams, and I still miss some golden bits here :) So EZA clips was something I was looking forward whenever it came out !!! L&R Damiani !!!

tahitianwarrior

I'm going to make my own weekly clip montage. Do I need to use my own music and intro bit or can I use the one from the channel? Does anyone know?

Kris Fredrick

While I understand the issue of a heavy workload and I’m all on board for making changes to prevent anyone from becoming overworked, I really enjoyed clips. I’ve went on to watch many streams that I might have missed if not for seeing a funny piece of that stream on Weekly Clips. Thanks for the transparency as always!

Corey Swafford

The clips highlights really let me see what kind of good stuff the allies were up to in their weekly streaming content. I don't have the time to check that stuff out normally so these videos were my portal into that world. It was fantastic. I really hope you reconsider the priority of these videos as I believe they are incredibly important to fans like me.

Hedgey

I'm going to be missing the Weekly Clips. They were one of my favorite things EZA produced as I don't have time to watch every stream. I hope they can make a comeback someday.

Toni Mäkinen

Damiani's marathon streams of Hollow Knight and FFXIV aren't going to help the optics of this. EZA should try to reverse this trend of complacency-signaling red flags.

NotJack

I totally understand why you guys are doing this, but I do have to say it is disappointing. All too often, when I am feeling not myself, I watch those clips for a general reminder of all the laughs and good times I have had with the allies. I kind of wish you guys asked for our input on this first, to maybe gauge if it was worth saving, but I respect the tough decisions you guys make and I have faith that your future content will still be awesome. I will just have to fish through the clips and vids to find my fav moments again is all ^_^ LnR4L

Jeffrey Tessar

Bummed to hear this as I always look forward to the Clips of the Week (because there is no possible way I could watch all of the streams I'd like to, as others have stated), and you always did an excellent job putting everything together. However, I, of course, completely understand this decision and I'm glad you're able to focus your efforts on, admittedly, more important projects. This was fun while it lasted and thank you for doing it, Damiani!

Bob Richardson

I don't have time in my lifestyle to watch streams pretty much ever, so this is kinda a bummer. But understandable. Maybe somebody in the community who's really committed could take over? The Giant Bomb guys ended up making a community guy the official clipshow editor.

Gray Thomas-Sowers

Dang. We understand the buisness sides, but I sure did love those clips. Hopefully when you guys get to the new space you can hopefully hire a side editor just to edit community show case and clips.

Just going to say that in term of a business... EZA Clips was by far the best way you had to get new viewers. I would definitely try to find a way to get those back.

MaxVSTheGames

Regarding the studio, Jones has made it clear it will actually save a lot of time and create more opportunities. I do agree with you that they should be more receptive to new ideas, but I truly do believe them when they say they don't have time. My suggestion would be for them to actually hold back announcements if the logistics are not finalized. As much as like the transparency, this could prevent productions like this one from causing us disappointment. just my thoughts!

Rammer

That last part I was thinking about myself. I'm more worried about them burning out and producing less rather than keeping consistency.

I'll add my voice to those saying they'll miss EZA clips. Totally appreciate your time constraints though. It is such a good show for people that can't keep up with the streams. I hope their is scope to bring it back in the future!

Rory Gladstone

well it never came out as brilliant as those from somegamenews, but I'll miss 'it anyway since I don't often make the time to watch streams.

Johan

That's somewhat unnecessary, they can play and stream in their free time whatever they want, do they not? I am sure they all spend enough time per day working on EZA as is. They are not machines.

MrMette

I'll miss it, it was a good way to keep up with all the crazy things and just one of the most entertaining videos. Agree that anyone could probably pick it up and do it for you so here's to hoping someone is willing!

Benny Samuelsson

I understand the disappointment, but for me - EZA context is most important. Lots of these clips lose their punch without context. Do you, Damiani. It's all good, from my perspective.

I am disappointed it has to go as I love EZA Clips, but I understand if you can't fit it in any more. There are probably way too much things being clipped to sift through each week. It was my only way to watch parts of the streams (I live in Belgium, so the streams are usually at inconvenient times), but what can you do.

MrMette

Well one of the best videos series produced is now dead. I don't have time to watch all the streams. It just isn't possible this was a way to see funny stuff and see if I was interested in watching a stream recording.

Those are my favorite thing u produce. Way too hard to keep caught up on everything

Brogan Trull

Aren’t the key issues: 1) Damiani was hoping other allies would be able to help produce but they don’t have time. 2) it’s about to o be the busiest part of the year with reviews and related coverage. 3) no extra time

Like others I am disappointed that Weekly Clips is being cancelled, but I think I am even more disappointed by this announcement. Firstly, you start off by saying “After bringing up some key issues with the Easy Allies Weekly clips, it’s been decided to put the series to rest”, and then continue on to say “The conclusion is that for how long these take to produce they’re not worth the payoff.” Not once is it mentioned what those key issues are or why the series is not worth the payoff. Was the goal of the show to bring in new fans, and it wasn’t accomplishing it? Was 10k weekly viewers not enough? Did it take more time then initially expected? Are there big projects like Retros, Game Sleuth, or something new to look forward too? Without any of this, the feeling is that you're getting less for my dollar than you were last week. Many people are obviously pointing fingers at streams as an issue. Since you did not elaborate enough on why you are so busy, streaming 9 hours of FF14 for a couple hundred people the same week you cancel a show 10k people watched is going to look bad. Clips acted as many fans window in streams they did not have time to watch, so you have now made those streaming hours even less valuable to them because they won’t be re-purposed into something they enjoy. I don’t even necessarily agree that streams are waste of time because I assume a lot of it is done during “off hours”, but you have to anticipate that would be the logical target of many. Finally, I think the passing the buck passing in this announcement is kind of lame. If you never intended to stay the sole producer of the show, did you communicate that with anyone when you started? Why bring it up other than to spread the blame of the show being cancelled? If you are too busy, just explain why and you won’t feel the need to pass blame. And definitely don’t say anything like “if fans want to make their own highlight videos, we encourage that” in your cancellation announcement. You should be able to give good enough reasons for cancelling a show that fans don’t walk away feeling disappointed. Whether anyone makes unofficial highlights videos on their own time should not be relevant at all. I think if you’re cancelling a show that people watch regularly, I really think you should be thoughtful in the way you announce it.

I'm disappointed by this. This was a great way for me to find out some of the more interesting things that was going on since I don't have time to watch everything. I guess I'll go back to missing most of the good moments. It also means that when EZA lore like moments happen, more people will have no idea what's going on.

Scott Dancer (Zdman)

Pretty much fell off from watching Clips since they were no longer being posted in the EZA thread on Resetera so I'm not entirely bummed out on it going away

Karl Williams

This is fair enough, especially given that this was a bonus show never included in any Patreon goals, and viewers had been getting lazier in making lots of good clips (outside of the inimitable Otoshi, of course). But some people here seem to really care, so I hope their concerns are taken seriously, and that some compromise is sought. L&R

James McCoy

Extremely disappointed in this. As someone who has nearly no time to check in on every EZA stream, I loved getting a bite-sized video to see what happened in the previous week. Usually, it led me to checking out more of a stream. I guess it's back to looking at Twitch clips.

Totally understandable. I enjoy the show, but only watched maybe 1 out or every 4 episodes. Seems like that was the norm, so this makes sense. No worries!

Fluffhead108

While I agree that weekly Clips shows were probably too much, I would definitely consider doing this monthly in the 20 minute range from the "best of the best" clips. That way it cuts down the edit time (technically) in half and it still remains a viable way to catch up on streams for your audience. Just food for thought.

GW Fawkes

Wow this was my favorite. It helps me catch up on lore "inside jokes" because I can't watch every show every week. Also I think it was a great way to show potential fans what is so great about the allies. Maybe some of the other guys can stop streaming so many games and share the load.

ComboBreaker

Damn the weekly clips were my favourite since I never have the time to watch the live streams. Hopefully somegamenews can start doing a monthly recap or something.

This is fine. It's too much work. Not to mention some game news did a good job of it.

AH

Have somegamenews do an highlight show (for a reasonable fee of course)

Federico

I'm honestly super disappointed in this. The official weekly videos were something my partner and I looked forward to the most. It's impossible for most people to watch all the streams and this was the best way to keep up with the highlights. (And I'll miss that awesome intro.)

ZeoVGM

Tabletop Escapades is a goal on their list, they won't stop doing that nor do I want them to stop. Plus that is typically one session broken into 4 parts distributed through a month.

I have to agree, outside of say E3 or when Kyle was playing through Harry Potter, I never really watch any of their stuff live, just too much of it XD Such riches are plenty.

It makes sense, it's a shame for those who enjoyed it. But having random clips out of context was always going to feel like filler. Especially as there's already, maybe... just maybe, too many series currently active at once XD

Yet something els they just don't want to deal with so they kill it. All we hear is, "we don't have time", "we don't want to do this", "don't make this podcast to long". Maybe instead of a studio goal; which won't fix this at all; you guys need to set a backend person goal. (i'm a bit exaggerating a bit, but i hear this in every group thing, no time, don't feel like it,...) and it reflects poorly on your awesome work.

Randy Verschueren

I guess it's an unpopular opinion but I think you stream too much all week (sometimes for a really small portion of your audience who... isn't at work ?), that's why many have no time to do edited videos. It's a choice, I understand, but as an International viewer/patreon (from Europe), this series was my only way to catch up on all those streams. I think the allies are trying to do too much and they will have to choose : podcasts, reviews, daily streams, roleplay... Some have to disappear for others to be doable in a timely fashion. But I understand all of that depends on whatever the allies want to do themselves.

Térence Caron

I understand even thought it was one of my Favourite times of the week, thanks for doing it for so long.

Calvin Delaney

Some people seem to really take this announcement hard. This community exists to share Easy Allies content, we really shouldn't have to burden the allies more than we already do.

Was one of my favourites. Sad to see it go.

POKEY CLYDE

Well damn, that was one of my favorite videos each week.

Brainfreeze

I understand the reasoning, but I'll definitely miss the show. I don't get a chance to watch many streams, so I enjoyed being able to get a sense of them

Eric Mitchell

I feel one of the new tiers should be to hire somegamenews or additional personnel for clips. I think it would really help their channel as clips was very popular and would fill this major void for fans. I don't understand how they expect to add the additional tiers worth of content with the limited manpower they have. They really should consider adding somebody at least on the back-end to assist them in producing their content because content quality will inevitably suffer and I'm sure fans care about quality not quantity especially with the limited time we have to watch their shows.

I get that these are time consuming, but it's really sad to see this go away. It helped me feel like I wasn't missing anything from the livestreams I never had time to watch all the way through. Would be in favor of a vote to see if we could bring this back at the cost of losing something else tbh.

Brandon Ray

That’s surely a bummer but I understand. With the huge holiday of games it makes it hard, Thanks for the heads up L&R

Megan Linart

Very dissapointed to lose this fantastic show. But if its too much work do what you need to do.

I agree with this completely. Sometimes segments just don’t work out and the people watching aren’t really in the best position to gage that. People will be angry & disappointed sure but that just comes with the territory.

NowHoldOnaMinute

Less streaming does not equal more produced content. Streaming takes an insignificant time away from creating produced content. At best a for example 90 work hour review would take 88 hours instead if the reviewer skipped their one stream that week.

Love Clips---Multiple Retro? You MANIACS! L&R

This is disappointing to me. I agree with the reasoning but I don't agree with the decision. It was a great way to see the Allies in streams which I ultimately don't have time to watch.

I was thinking about this myself. I can see the merit in the idea but ultimately it comes down to wether SGN would even want to do it and if the Allies want SGN to do it.

I do agree with some comments suggesting less streaming and more produced content.

LeeLore

Sad to see it go but I totally understand. I appreciate the work you put into this Damiani! Looking forward to it's next iteration. Maybe once we get the new studio. :D

LeeLore

Everyone has long comments. I will just say thanks.

Patreon supporter since the very beginning, and this news has me considering cancelling my (admittedly small) pledge. I have dropped off massively from watching streams, and Weekly Clips was one of few ways I could continue feeling in the loop with what the allies were up to week to week. I imagine many others feel the same. Not that Youtube views is the metric by which you all paid, but Weekly Clips was in the 8.5k-12k range, greater than a lot of other content. It provides a great way for non-patrons and new people to see whats going on and what you're all about with less 3 hour commitments. I do love you guys and appreciate what you produce, but if 7 content creators (Excluding Don and Ian since their edit plate is no doubt often exceptionally full) can't compile clips compiled by the community of your own IP into a video each week, then something is seriously wrong with the entire operation. It may be time to consider hanging up some MMO's, nat 20's and chicken dinners.

The studio comment is kind of unfair. Jones said they've put in an offer for a studio and that it's up to the seller to accept or decline them. It's out of their hands.

Olf Himself

Ah man I liked these

Joseph Field

If this is the case. I’m on board. But you guys better start pumping out some new content more consistently. I’ve been a patron from the start and I love all you do. I can honestly say though there is a lot of talking, there are ideas for shows, and stop starts that sometimes amount to nothing. I’d happily not have a Bosman stream for one week so he can finish a bit more of box peek and get that out quicker. The retros I understand are well produced and take time, but come on, get that sorted out now. Even the studio is taking too much time. You are some of the more open and honest content creators out there, you guys just need that management push, stiff, hard (easy now) deadlines and to trim the fat. I wouldn’t have said that clips, was the fat.

Matt Edwards

Damn this sucks I watched clips weekly and it revealed the personality of each ally so well. They were alot of fun as well and I laughed without fail each week. I love EZA but I just don't have time for your streams so this was the best way I could keep up with that and I guess I'll just miss that portion now. It's a shame but if it can't be kept up I get it. This might be ny ignorance but wasn't clips meant to be easy to produce and that was why it started in the first place?

Nathan25

This has come up a lot and the thing is streaming has virtually no impact on produced content, at least not the amount of streaming they do. If say Ben stops doing his 2-4 hours a week of streaming that doesn't equate to let's say even 1 extra review. It's always produced content that is the time sink by a multitude of like ten at least.

Olf Himself

Agreed 100% the focus on streaming has always been my main criticism of EZA.

When you talk about better uses for the EZA's time, does streaming fit into that? Because in all honesty there are a fair few streams that have a tiny number of views (far fewer than Clips) but also take up several hours of an someones time. Are those streams taken into account when it comes to planning out how much time everyone has? If so, there are a ton that should be cut first.

I am a patron who dropped my pledge for personal (unrelated to this) reasons but I still want to throw in my two cents. I think this is ridiculous. You guys talked and talked and talked about wanting to stop with the long-form shows and produce more short-form shows. This is one. I understand that it isn't doing as well as you would like but it was certainly the only thing I'd watch on YouTube now aside from the podcasts (not including Friend Code) because keeping up is just impossible if you like more than one channel. I refuse to watch a stream, but I sub to you guys with prime out of love. It's too much content. WAY too much and it was always my least favourite aspect of Allies over GT. However, Clips made me actually interested in it for the first time and I loved seeing them. Instead of doing it weekly, why not monthly? I think yearly is even more absurd because it will not generate the numbers required to bring people in because those clips will be so outdated that who will give a shit at that point? MOnthly would be more appropriate. I do understand Damiani doesn't want to do it anymore so that's fine, but to me the problem was that it was just too much filler in each episode. If you had spread it out a bit more so we'd have less random ass FF14 clips or terranigma clips or whatever in each video it would've helped make each one more entertaining overall in my opinion. Downside being that maybe you're not promoting a single stream as much. I guess there is no perfect solution but to eradicate this completely is the worst solution in my eyes. You finally had a quick video series that wasn't behind a paywall that didn't require us to keep up with any stories or meta humour and now it's gone. I am really disappointed.

Really disappointed to hear this as like everyone else is saying I simply haven’t got the time to watch you guys stream also I am in the UK so time difference is a big factor. It seems like the issue of you guys simply not having enough time is coming up a lot. Maybe you guys should do a cost vs reward of how much streaming you should actually do and maybe cut down on streaming to allocate that time to produced content.

Owen D-J

Truth be told I'm kind of ambivalent on this. While I always enjoyed the clip series and found it very well produced I often thought the clips themselves were sometimes mediocre at best with only a few gems. Creating content for this kind of stuff his hard, especially if you need to rely on the community to create interesting stuff. SomeGameNews's stuff is always good because they hand pick moments themselves. The clips often missed context and timings that made the situations funny. If possible I'd love it if you continued your partnership with SGN and had them make like a monthly Best Of series that wasn't just clips. Maybe a future new tier?

Olf Himself

I think it's for the best; while I liked watching the clips episodes, I found myself often holding off on them whenever they included clips from something I wanted to watch in full. Plus Twitch has a Clips tab where people look at top clips for the past week, month etc. so it's not like it's hard to peer through them on your own. It was nice that the clips episodes had more structure to them, owing to your sense as an editor in how to place them, but with the amount of work that must be involved I can see 100% why it might not be worth it, and want to say a huge thank you for sticking with it as long as you have! Does Twitch have an API for clips? I was just wondering if maybe an alternative might be to highlight the clips a bit more on the easyallies.com website, or even just a straight link to the Twitch clips section?

Haravikk

maybe cut down on some streams and shows that aren't getting a lot of views

So... what I’m about to say may be somewhat controversial, but hopefully it helps... if not, feel free to ignore 😅 With the growing number of projects that Easy Allies is taking on, I think it’d probably be best if you guys start becoming a bit more selective about what projects you take on (again not a lot more, just a bit). We all know a lot of content creators out there take their fans & supporters for granted, but we also know that you guys don’t and do your best to be transparent with us. That’s among the many reasons why we’re here and such fans :) I’m sure that it’s safe to say that while, of course, we’d all love to see as much of you guys as we can, we also understand that there’s only so much you guys can do with the amount of hours there are each day and it’s not fair if it gets to the point that all of you are being overworked with everything you’re juggling. If need be, take the time to meet up in private and behind the scenes and just really discuss what is working, what you really enjoy and what each of you has time for, in and out of work. Also, all of us allies should really take certain upcoming things into consideration like the absolutely stacked amount of gaming content that EZA have ahead of them to cover in the upcoming months... and let’s not forget about the upcoming holiday season that is sure to put additional pressure on time management. It may result in fewer projects, but I think we all, in the long run, would prefer quality content that you’re not killing yourselves over to put out. Who knows? Maybe once the studio is set up, it may even make things easier and production can increase from then on! Now, this might be the part that might not be the most popular thing to say, and it’s really only just my opinion (pls no bully 😅), but perhaps a reduction in the amount of content (even if only a temporary one) you put out may even help in the long term. At this point, I think the majority of us know what are the sort of staple non-negotiable EZA projects, streams & shows, and personally I kinda see anything else as really just icing on the cake ^_^ I also don’t believe that most people would see being more selective with the things you put out to necessarily be a bad thing so long as it helps with time & resource managing and results in even more (than it already is) consistent quality content in the long run. You already produce as much (sometimes even more) content than many content creators that I’m aware of (including some with an even larger staff) and I think that’s telling of how hard you all work and may at times be spreading yourselves thin. “Work smart, not hard” :) All I want (and I’m sure what most us want) is for Easy Allies to succeed while remaining true to who you are <3 L&R

I think you're missing precisely the point though. They're enjoyable and well-liked, but they're neither as "low-effort" nor as popular as they might appear. There may be a better solution in the future, but for now, there are better things for Damiani to focus on. -Bloodworth

Easy Allies

That's a huge shame, the clips episodes were my favourite EZA thing each week apart from the podcasts, as I don't usually watch the streams, but enjoy to see little bits of them. Thanks for all the work you have put into them, Damiani! Could you not work with SomeGameNews like you do with the best of E3 videos to lighten the workload? Love and respect whatever you decide!

Ben Bernard-Smith

It was a good idea since no one in their right mind would be able to sit through the amount of streaming you do while also attempting to watch any of your regular content, but I still cannot believe it's been axed considering how popular it was. For such a low effort thing to produce it still pulled in much stronger numbers than the FarisR highlight videos on the EZA page despite them being of such a higher quality, so cutting a weekly piece of content that's performing so well just seems insane to me especially since it's the one piece of appropriately sized regular "people playing games" content on the entirety of the channel.

Mr M

This is a huge bummer for me personally but I’m sure I’m an outlier. I don’t watch the retros and reviews myself but these were actually bringing me to the YouTube channel regularly. Do what you have to do though 😞

Bdun912

We're working on multiple Retros right now, and Game Sleuth is still happening. They're definitely the largest scale things we do and take time, but more are coming.

Easy Allies

Thanks Damiani. I really did enjoy Clips, but it probably didn't do what you guys wanted and drive me to the streams as much as to showed me the best parts that I missed, much how I watch Maximilian's stuff. That would be a good thing if it brought in the same number of views, but I'm guessing it didn't. I'll try to catch the streams more, but this was a really good way to catch up on limited time. Looking forward to what's next! L&R

Justin Greene

Bummer, like most people it's hard to watch all the streams so I really looked forward this video.

‘Checkin out’, ‘Don’t Skip’, ‘Game Sleuth’, ‘Retrospectives’, ‘Easy Anime’ and now clips. Just another show lost in production hell. I think planning a efficient pipeline for production is a major issue Easy Allies. A monthly meeting to decide what’s next isn’t enough. If you are really interested in planning for ‘seasons’ as Jones suggested in a CoJ, I think you need to cast your net wider. Look at exactly how much time Allies can dedicate, look at review pipelines, factor in stream time and clamp down on what videos are going up by what allies. Did Damiani need to stream a full playthrough of Hollow Knight? Did that do better than Easy Allies Clips? I think it really tells that the isn’t a producer to oversea most of what Allies do from a higher level, and it is really hurting the Allies as a result. Just my thoughts, love you guys regardless, just want to see you be better.

Rurmelly

Some Game News, do your thing.

It already existed. Look up Somegamenews. He also produced the highlights for e3 and easy livin

Rurmelly

This was awesome to watch, so it'll be sad to see go. Hopes for more SomeGameNews stuff

Andreas Kleanthous

I'm surprised some of the fans haven't already taken this on and made a channel dedicated to it. Clips is a great idea, made even easier with Twitch's clipping feature.

Chad Kowalski

Thank you for what you produced, these will be missed, but we get it. Keep up the good work!

Tyler Travis

I'll miss it, but I totally understand the decision. Great job on the ones that were put out there!

Sam Sorensen

Love the clips, but if something has to go, I’m glad it’s that. L&R

Tristan Gray

Sad to see it go but totally understandable. We know you all are busy so focus on what you need to focus on. L&R

Thanks for doing this Damiani

lq

Sad to see this happen. Clips was one of the better content ideas from EZA in recent memory and a fun watch every week.

Daniel Matos

Was fun while it lasted. As someone who doesn't get to catch too many streams, I look forward to the ideas you have for it in the future.
