Frame Trap - Episode 65 "Racing Through The Seasons"

I never understand the criticism of Dragon Quest XI being too easy. I think it's perfectly balanced compared to past games. Dragon Quest games in the past usually required players to grind a lot to get past later bosses. Dragon Quest XI feels like it's balanced where you won't have a problem as long as you fight nearly every monster in a dungeon on the way to the boss. Even when they added visible enemies on the map in DQVII and VIII, it never felt at meticulously balanced as it does in DQXI.

Regarding the whole early access thing discussed in the hottake. I bought the AC gold edition. Not just because of being able to playing early (not that it hurts because im eztremely hyped) but because the extra content. Basically it comes with the season pass which adds a lot 2 expansions with a lot of new things to do AND Assassins Creed 3 and Liberation remastered. However the biggest factor is the money. As i said im super hyped about the game and i know i want to buy it all. I also only buy my digital games this games. So the vanilla game is out at 69.99€ (im from Spain), the season pass is at 39.99€ so buying the gold edition ends up saving me 10 € which is actually cool. The other games you mentioned also come with their respective season pass besides the early access thing, i havent checked the math in those but i guess is a good deal too. That being said if there's ever a case of a company who lets you buy a game for 40 dollars or whatever more just to play it 4 days earlier i agree with you cause thats just bad. Love you guys, keep up the good work.

I’m also in the camp that the switch may not be for me. I’ve only really played Kirby and Mario odyssey. I tried botw even though I’m not a Zelda person but it didn’t do anything for me. I bought mk8 deluxe to play online really but that didn’t pan out though that’s on my end. I wanted to get Xenoblade but opinions seemed mixed to the point I chose to skip it. Mega man 11 is the first game I’m getting in a while. Vespiria is probably the one after that but that’ll be some point after kh3; perhaps even after dmc5. I know everyone loves smash but unless I’m into its single player side I won’t buy it. I don’t want a repeat of the Wii U where I bought it thinking I’d play it a lot and try to get better but that went out the window. I’m already not paying for online since I don’t play online so I’d really have to care about smash.

I am a fan for paying for early access I work long hours dont really have time to play much so if I can pay extra to get a game early I'm down I have money but not enough time especially because I don't have Saturdays and Sundays off I have Wednesdays and Thursdays off so if I can get a game on Tuesday that's perfect

From what I have heard it takes at least a week to go through the certification for a patch on PS and Xbox, so I suspect they can't really use you as tester for a day one patch for something like this where that you get a couple of days of early access. It is of course possible that a day one patch will drop. For "real" early access on Steam and such that's of course different. I have seen games which are very playable and where the dev keeps working when in early access to games that don't get updates and are dead after they got the first impulse of money. You know when you give money to that kind of early access (and kickstarter for example) that it's possible that you never will get a finished build and you are basically testers in that case. I honestly don't mind for something like Rimworld which I bought over 2 years ago and which is still in early access (although it's almost finished), but which is fun to play and it got plenty of updates and I got a lot of joy watching people play on youtube as well. It depends on the game I guess. I do understand where you are coming from though (for early access like Rimworld, you are basically a tester, but in this case the game has only one dev), it's certainly a risk and I wouldn't do it for everything without watching footage or reading up on what people think about it. A game like Forza Horizon is something totally different for me. I would still not buy the pack for early access only as it's only a couple of days and it's the least interesting aspect of the ultimate edition for me, but I know from experience that their games are basically done as they send out their review copies before early access (even though it crashed on me 3 times the first day for some reason. After that I haven't had any crashes any more).

am I the only one that thinks paying more for early access and with the quality of some games being launched fell even worse. like try paying 40$ more and the game is broken for you and then on launch they might have fixed it. To me you pay for being a tester and I think its more harm then good

Apparently Patreon ate my comment after my last edit. Thanks Patreon, you're the best! The gist of it: I paid for the FH4 Ultimate Edition, but for the content that comes with it and not for the early access. I do use it because I can, but I will still buy that edition even if they don't add early access. I wouldn't mind it if companies stop adding that type of early access. I also realised that we pay at least $60 per year for early access on these videos as well (which is very similar, although you get more early access content for EZA's Patreon obviously). Maybe Patreon can use their percentage to fix their comment system.

Hey ben, had to pause it after that HOTTAKE:to take it to the comment section ! I absolutely despise early access editions. I could write a loonnnnnggg lonnnnnggg comment about why, but you pretty much summed it up perfectly. It's a stab in the back for the most loyal customers/fans/gamers who are not willing to splash 99€ to play 3 day earlier. It only really gets to you when it hits your fav franchise (for me it was Battlefield 1). You see everybody playing the game, on your friend list, on twitch...but you...! I can afford to buy any game I want but I don't want to spend more than 50€ on a brand new release; which I think is already a fair price. A lot of games have been doing this now (Sports games; eg: FIFA(FuT) and yes it grants also an advantage competitively when you start ahead of everybody). And I'm not even talking about EA Acces where that same game is playable a week even 2 before release :D but that's something different entirely. Thank you for talking about this !!! L&R

Oh.. and I personally really enjoyed BoomBlox.

Must play Wii Games.. I'd say No More Heroes 1 & 2. (those motion control wrestling moves and sword finishers... so exhilarating). House of the Dead Overkill. Surprised you guys didn't mention Wario Ware! I think it REALLY drove it home. The sword fights in Wii Sports Resort are a must (with the motion +). MADWORLD for sure!! Lastly I thought the phone calls through your wiimote on No More Heroes really worked well with the poor speaker quality. Kinda added to the vibes. Great show!

Any chance of talking about 428: Shibuya Scramble sometimes ? It seems to fly under the radar in this period.

Directed at both Frame Trap and your response: Is it really Early Access if the full game is done though? Early Access as a term I think refers completely to another thing, games still earlier in development, and it isn't something you pay more than the cost of the game to receive. You just play the less stable version of it and help the devs figure out the bugs and the direction. That kind of Early Access I think is perfectly acceptable, but this Early Copy of games at release that costs way more would definitely be a problem if it ever happened for a game with story I care about for the spoilery reasons talked about in the podcast.

MBUN

About the HOTTAKE: I too am not a fan of paying for Early Access, but because many of the games I enjoy don't partake, it's not an issue for me personally. To me, it feeds into the psychology of "Pay to win" and as such, is gross. Good thing I don't care for multiplayer and, so far, it hasn't seeped into the story games I care for. For example: If Kingdom Hearts III will have that attributed to it, I can wait an additional four days. It just means I have to stay off the Internet until I'm done with it.
