Trailer Jones - CoD Blackout, Samurai Spirits, and Leisure Suit Larry
Added 2018-10-01 06:04:29 +0000 UTCSneaking in right at the end of the month! We actually shot this over a week ago, otherwise I may have included that bizarre new creation from Death Stranding. I wanted to pick different trailers from across the marketing spectrum. Something people have been waiting to see, something new to surprise us, and something that should have been much better than it was. With so many big events and announcements this summer, it’s been difficult to be really critical of the stuff we really want to analyze. We’ll see what trailers impress as the fall release schedule picks up.

Stand by for a rant that I was going to post as a youtube comment but thought better of it...: Here's the thing with Larry. You can get away with lots of stuff if you're actually funny and if the joke is ultimately on Larry. Ultimately that's the border between 'bawdy' and 'smutty'. Duke Nukem 3D (eg.) was smutty in an unpleasant and unfunny way. It tried to wink at the audience and say "yeah, Duke's a bad guy, but really you agree with him, right?" To which the answer was "no, he's just an arsehole". It's important to affirm that not all comedy is dated - not even all 'un-PC' comedy. There are lots of bawdy comedies from the 1970s (or even the 1370s...) which are still funny and sympathetic. But it's equally important to be able to look at some things and say "no, this is actually just misogynistic and smutty and really rather bad". That's not being PC, it's just being discerning. 2018-10-01 17:54:42 +0000 UTCThis is not the Larry, I knew and loved. Larry was supposed to be a lovable loser, but the guy from the trailer just comes over as a complete idiot. Even the jokes in this trailer are so stupid and overused, that it has absolutely nothing to do with the humor of the old games. With my 36 years i also grew up with the series, so I love these old games. But seeing this trailer just makes me mad. I will play for sure leisure suit Larry 6 and 7 in the future again, as those are 2 of my favorite games of all times (so good vibrs), but will surely never even touch this game. I wonder for who the creators made this game. Cannot be for the fans like me, since they will surely hate this like me and kids these games are surely not even remotely interested in this kind of game.

2018-10-01 13:53:10 +0000 UTCWell if you want to do a "modern" Larry game you have to advertise it as being: dark, ironic, very sexual and very very politically incorrect. Own that incorrectness while making it clear that its just for fun. I doubt many modern writers have the guts pr ability to do that. Sadly it seems that the game is horrible^^ at least thats what we all got out of the trailer, didnt we? The original Larry series came in a time when people were much more open minded than today AND there wasnt a lot of "sexy" games anyway. There is kind of no point to it today...

2018-10-01 09:55:06 +0000 UTCI get where Jones is coming from with having the history of playing the Leisure Suit Larry series and having a locked and loaded trailer rant he wanted an avenue to express, but it just seems like such a irrelevant game we otherwise would've never heard of, and the other Allies didn't seem interested in scoring it in the least. I think maybe during some really down months it could've been the right call to include, but here it just makes me miss other stuff that could've gotten discussed and scored. I think next time if only one ally has a take on something particular it would just be better for them to discuss it during a stream or one of their shows briefly. Even though the discussion was handled really well, it was just a bit boring in my opinion. That's all. No worries though, because the other two trailers picked were more interesting.
