You guys mention The Thing “remake” which isn’t a remake at all, it’s a prequel that happens to follow a lot of the same story beats. It’s not awful, has some good performances and disturbing moments despite the cgi. As a huge fan of the original it’s fun to see what happened at the Russian base, which they do visit in the original. You see an axe in a doorframe in the original film for example. Then in the prequel you see how it got there. Lol. Kind of cool. They put a lot of effort into that kind of stuff. The real tragedy though, is that the prequel WAS filmed with absolutely stunning/incredible animatronics, ones that rival the original films in every way, but the studio decided to cover them up with cgi to “enhance” them. This ruined a lot of the effects. If you catch the special features on the blu ray you can see the unaltered puppet effects in all their glory. Such a shame. If you’re a fan of the original I wouldn’t completely write it off. It has some value AND Mary Elizabeth Winstead to boot.

2018-10-16 16:43:43 +0000 UTCI mentioned this to Ian and Huber already on Twitter, but The Haunting of Hillhouse on Netflix is exceptional. Scary and heart wrenching at the same time with beautiful writing, directing and cinematography. The show came out of nowhere and utterly blew me away. I cannot recommend it highly enough. I am also now very confident that the upcoming sequel to The Shining, Dr. Sleep, is in extremely good hands with the show's director Mike Flanagan.
