CORRECTION: Single player gaming isn't dead 😉. Seriously though, typically when something is announced as dead, it is when it's about to make a comeback ala single player gaming. In fact you could make a better argument for the imminent death of multiplayer. Sure, there are still millions of people playing but if you were developing a game and had to decide between the two, single player would be a better bet. Especially if you were shooting for the kind of success that the EAs etc Al shoot for.

I was listening to an old EZA podcast (#71 August 2nd 2017) when I found an unresolved bet! Kyle and Ben bet Jones and Ian that Metroid Prime 4 would be released in 2018. As we all know that didn't come to pass. The stakes were that the losers would have to write and perform a duet focusing on Samus Aran. Please make it happen! The bet is made 66 mins into episode #71 for reference.

The ping system in Apex Legends is actually genius. Brandon brings up that Fortnite "did that years ago", but all that game has is a generic marker command and emotes on a radial menu that's very hard to use on a controller. The ping system in Apex is entirely contextual and insanely intuitive. If you point it at an enemy, that enemy will be marked for a little while. If you point it at an item, your character will actually say out loud what that item is, and an unique icon for it will be marked on the map. You can ping on top of a teammate's marker to say "Ok, let's go there" or "I want that item you marked". And all of that works contextually with a single button. Fortnite's system is prehistoric compared to this.

Respawn said when they started developing the game that they started out with mechs and wall running but it didn’t work, mechs were hard to balance for a BR setting. If they wanted to do mechs they would have to make a much larger map and have different weapons which have to be balanced differently from what they have now. I doubt they ever add mechs to this game.

I dont like first person shooters but Titanfall 2 was so good! I really hope there is a Titanfall 3 someday.

To add to the point about “innovation,” Ian made a fantastic point; in tech, it’s almost never the first, it’s the one who did it best! Apple is almost never 1st, they always iterate and refine. The very 1st iPhone was not the 1st smart phone. To add to Sony’s “innovations:” PlayStation Eye, GameSharing on PS4 (allowing someone else to play your game remotely), Game Streaming from a console, I know ppl will say that Xbox also has a demo of it at their presentation... but let’s me honest, that’s was cobbled last minute, at least it looked like it. Also, free games every month, I think they were 1st with that. But of course, like Bossman said, we never used that’s stuff... well except streaming.

For the first time ever, I turned down the volume at the start of the podcast to ignore a bit. Pro Strats Only is so bad that I would rather mute it. You're killing all the vibes with it every single time.

I'm not one to complain about bits, because I usually enjoy them a lot. I have to cast a vote to get rid of pro strats only. It seemed funny at first, but I'm already growing tired of it. Other than that, the podcast just gets better and better. Please don't let this critique take away from the rest of what you guys have done. Love what EZA is doing. New studio is AMAZING! To refute Damiani's point about Titanfall 2 selling "well" according to him, Titanfall 1 reportedly sold around 10 million copies, so it made sense internally for EA to expect that number for the sequel that's also now being released on a very successful PS4 system. Selling half of that number is under-performing, considering the development costs probably went up as well. To discuss the Battlefield point he made, I don't have exact sales numbers for it off the top of my head, but Battlefield 1 was the 2nd best selling game in the US for 2016. That has to be considerably more than 7 million copies, which was a disappointing number for V.

I just watched the first couple of seconds and it seems like the animations for the lower 3rds are off? Ian Hink's face is shown on the video, but his lower 3rd appears a couple of seconds after and his face transitions back to the panel in the studio. A little nit-pick, but I just wanted to point this out.
