Darksiders III - Review

Comments

I beat the game on PS4 Pro and it ran like total garbage. Huge frame rate dips and the game completely freezes to load sometimes even in the middle of combat. It's obviously an issue with optimization on their end because other games are way more taxing graphically and run totally fine on the pro. Patch 1.04 came out and mentionned performance tweaks so hopefully it's better now but I'm done with the game and it just left a bad taste with all those issues. They really need to iron this stuff out before release or for a day 1 patch.

Thank Brad, this review clearly explain how frustrated while playing Darksider3. The framerate is terrible, I even think of getting a pro for this. But after a few crash out, better keep the money for later. Personally, I hate the R1 dodge and cannot map other key. =[

Great review, Brad. I fell out of the series shortly into the second game out of sheer boredom, so it's cool to have such a clear and succinct view into how it's doing now. Taking out the map seems like a weird move - it's not like we ever got super intuitive, know-by-sight level design previously (though it's possible that what I didn't see of 2 would contradict that). And the technical issues are especially peculiar given that you played it on the World's Most Powerful Console™. EDIT: Just remembered that you made an entire video to tell us all not to skip Darksiders II. Haha, sorry.

This is interesting. I'd argue that the Darksiders series is a fascinating one in which each game is almost a part of a different genre. 1 is Zelda, 2 is Diablo, 3 is Dark Souls. For my money, Darksiders 3 is a more approachable, slightly more comprehensible game than Dark/Demon's Souls. I'm a sucker for the Souls format, so I find the game significantly better than the allies do. Expectations can be a difficult thing to overcome, but I can't help but feel that this game was graded more on what it isn't than what it is. It's at a AA rather than AAA level of polish, for sure, but for me it's vastly closer to an 8 than a 6, YMMV. -Rick
