The Films that Fix Us - Reaction Shots

Happy December film fans!

This month we're doing the opposite topic of an episode we did a couple months ago (Movies that Wrecked Us) and talking about The Films that Fix Us!

Film can be therapeutic, either by just being so jolly that it lifts the spirits or by making you feel so seen in your pain that you are healed (at least a little bit!)

Some examples may include: The Princess Bride, Back to the Future, As Good as it Gets, Father of the Bride Part II, Les Miserables, Galaxy Quest, Emperor's New Groove, The Incredibles, Star Trek TNG (TV), Futurama (TV), etc.

What are some of the classic feel good flicks?

What are some movies that make you feel good that might not seem like real uppers?

How big of a factor does nostalgia play in the power of films like these?

What are common traits between all these films?

What's a movie that seems to make everyone else happy that just bums you right out?

Do you think classic "feel good" movies are always comedies, or are they a mixture of drama and comedy?  What genre are these films typically?

What filmmaking techniques do these films share, are there places to put the camera, ways to light a scene, set designs, blocking, costume choices, music compositional styles, etc, that make the feels go good?

Are there films that weaponize positivity?  Are the above techniques ever used to manipulate us?

How often do films come out that you know are instant feel good classics?  What are recent examples?

Is there a formula for films like these?

Anything else you like us to discuss?

We will film this episode on Friday Dec 7th, so please enter your replies before then!  Thanks! <3
