Frame Trap - Episode 70 "Smashing It Up"

Comments

Well, Kyle point about exclusives doesn't really apply here. People are mad about exclusives when they feel things are taken away from them. People never get mad at Halo because that game wouldn't probably exist if it wasn't for Microsoft. It was made because of them. When you get Tomb Raider exclusive it's just paying a studio to make a game randsom, to take away the possibility of other people playing it, it's not creating something new. The Epic game store does neither. It's just another place to buy, but it doesn't exclude any PC player. You buy it here instead of there, but you still can buy it.

I believe it is my duty as a Belgian to point out that "Divinity: Original Sin II" was developed by Larian Studios which is in fact a Belgian studio! Sorry to bring down the enthusiasm for German folklore 😁

I think that smash feels like a better experience if you play it alone first. That way you can learn the mechanics and get used to find your character on the screen at all times. Way better than learning on the fly while fighting 6 other people. Even if you end up not liking the game, I think is worth it for the ridiculous amount of music that it has.

I broke down and ordered smash. Ive played a smash game like 2 other times in my life for a grand total of about 20 minutes. Had no clue what was going on, couldnt figure out the obtuse controls and was obliterated by the smug neckbeards who played it. But this one really looks like fun. So ive basically made a $60 bet without great odds. (Not saying all smash players are smug jerks, but the couple times Ive played it the people who I played against absolutely were. Soured me on the franchise a bit.)

I'm really enjoying Smash Bros thus far (about 5 hours in) and while I enjoy the challenge of unlocking characters, there are 66 of them to unlock. Any way you slice it, that's BS. That's over 11 hours of playtime (not using any trick method) to get the OPPORTUNITY to unlock everyone because, as people have pointed out, they can be hard to beat. Imagine if that was in a more traditional fighting game like Street Fighter. People would lose their s**t.

Regarding Smash matchmaking, I think it was a very conscious decision to make quick play as it is. Sakurai has always straddled this weird line between Smash being a competitive/casual fun multiplayer game. He always seems to favor the casual fun side of Smash, but he has also been, since Smash 4, pushing back into Melee levels of competitive gameplay. He just hasn't wanted to fully commit, and probably never will. It's a shame, but it's just what he wants.

Phazonmasher

I'm really confused on the smash talk. Do they not know the previous game constantly got gameplay patches and balances?

Kyle, if you want the Orange Box it's back compat on xbox : )

Here's some good news. I'm real bad at it too. You can play regular smash mode and seemingly unlock characters steadily even if you're losing a lot. Plus there is a thing it opens eventually that lets you re-challenge the approaching characters if you lost to them (i too have lost many times to the challengers). I think that feature was straight built to help folks who aren't winning a lot. Don't give up!

That said, Super Meat Boy is a great game. The new one actually doesn't look nearly as polished or appealing to me, and apparently it is entirely different people working on it. There's also weird stuff about how it was supposed to originally be a mobile game or something but instead got moved over to consoles and PC or something along those lines. I'd definitely wait for reviews on that one before pouncing on it.

MBUN

Just want to point out that while Super Meat Boy is still listed as $15 base price on Steam, it has gone down to 90% off $1.50 pretty much every sale for years now. I'm not personally familiar with Subnautica, but according to quick Google searching the game has gone down from the base $25 price to as low as $10 before during big official platform sales. So while it might sound nice that the Epic Games Store is giving you two games technically totaling $40 for free, those games have been out so long they're no longer really valued for such prices and have been available for much cheaper for years now. The reality is you're getting two games valued at about $11.50 total, so don't fall for the marketing here.

MBUN

I'm hating smash bros I'm terrible at it I dont want to have to play to unlock characters I constantly get beat be the mystery character all I want is to play with my daughter and have all the characters unlocked it's so disappointing to only have 8 characters

So glad you guys talked about Spyro. I never played it before now. I just beat the first game from the trilogy. I loved Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze because of the personality of the enemies and I wished more games had that. So after 1 minute into Spyro it has surpassed Tropical Freeze for their enemies having that personality. For example in the beginning you have those ogres that when your not close they are doing their thing but when you get near they run and if you follow them they shiver. I couldnt hurt them. Im like well their not attacking me, so why hurt them. Each enemies had those distinct personalities. I loved the game for that. I felt that even if I wasnt there that they would still be doing their own thing. Amazing game. loved it.

Just wanted to say that I like how because the video and audio posts have the same title, they show up as one email thread in Gmail. Much cleaner. Thanks!
