Frame Trap - Episode 71 "Dancing in Moonlight"

YouTube link - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LdUJdsJY90o

On a pre-holiday episode of Frame Trap, the allies get into the festivities by talking about Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Gris, Persona 3 Dancing in Moonlight, Ashen, and Final Fantasy XV mods. They also spend some time reflecting on past game generations and what made those generations special.

Just a quick note, the Smash talk is a bit out of date since it was recorded before the patch that improved online fights. Happy Holidays! - Ben

Frame Trap - Episode 71 "Dancing in Moonlight"

I had that same moment with Metroid Prime, Ben, where you go into a store, not knowing a thing exists. I played that demo and it changed my goddamned life xD also I love Jet Force Gemini to this day and it had an excellent Strategy Guide! Trivia: Jet Force Gemini was surprisingly built off of Diddy Kong Racing

I feel very lucky. When Ben talked about the feeling he got when he played Mega Man and how the experience was so new to him that he wanted everything Mega Man. For the first time, about maybe a month ago, I played an SRPG. This new way to play a video game, at least for me, has got me hooked on everything SRPG, mainly Fire Emblem. I purchased 5 FE games, 6 if you count the mobile game, and bought a couple FE amiibos. I cant get enough!

Not to roast chestnuts over an open fire, because we all grew up with this same illusion, but Animal Crossing for Gamecube was actually pretty much a port of the Japan Only Animal Forest for N64, making it more of an N64 game than a Gamecube one. Game was so small that the entire thing loads into your Gamecube's memory and you can take the disc out and keep playing after starting it. That said, I don't disagree that the Gamecube era was better, just not a great game to use as an example of that. Like Brad though, N64 era was an extremely special time in gaming for me. Between playing tons of amazing local games with friends and being the height of going to a physical store and renting games off shelves to try out a massive variety of usually positive, fun experiences with games I was never bored or burnt out during N64 era. Yall went into how it established the leap from 2D to 3D in games, but I also think of it as the gaming era where I was introduced to gaming enhancements, like the Rumble Pack where suddenly you were feeling a closer connection with the game you were playing, and "magic" like the N64 Transfer Pak, that let me take my handheld Pokemon games and play them on my home television or use the Pokemon from them in these impressive looking at the time Stadium fights. Even though I know people hated memory cards as another thing you have to buy, they could lead to experiences like taking your memory card to Blockbuster to print pictures you took in Pokemon Snap. I know earlier generations had some peripherals, certainly had some dumb Atari ones growing up, but most felt like stupid gimmicks (to be fair N64 had some like the Hey You! Pikachu mic) where the above listed ones really felt like the future of gaming. Here we are in current day, with things like HD Rumble carrying on the legacy and the Switch's dock makes every game on it work similar to that Transfer Pak from way back when. I never had a SNES growing up, although I got to play a good deal of the big stuff on it at friends and family's places, so I'm obviously biased. I won't even try to argue that when people put that era at the top of lists that they're wrong or that N64 era was better, but I get irked seeing people unrelated to this Frame Trap act like the N64 had very few good games outside the big ones everyone knows and most don't hold up and are barely playable today, because during that era I was privileged enough to get to really dig in to the library as a whole through things that existed at the time like game rental stores and very rarely did I end up with a straight up bad game I didn't even want to play or got quickly bored of. I think there's just lots of gems buried under other amazing games that did find the recognition. Plus, even outside the games themselves, this was a system that popularized stuff like different color controllers (and even the carts themselves) so you could feel more ownership over the invidual ones when with friends, which definitely has carried forward with time and extended to the culture of special edition stuff. So as much as I love NES, SNES, Playstation, and Sega systems, you pretty much have the same black or gray stock controllers with those versus N64's rainbow explosion of choice including the amazing looking see through plastic options where you can see the controller parts inside. Sure, you can technically hook up a multitap to a SNES and 4 player Super Mario Kart, but each friend won't be holding their own controller just for them, each its own color, with a much larger library of fun 4 player experiences to bounce between within the same system. N64 era was fantastic!

What a good Frame Trap. That sweet nostalgia segment. Brad Dad with the legendary picks. Clash at Demonhead!!! I didn't beat Battletoads until I was a teenager, but my god it felt so good to go back and conquer this game my childhood self never could. The magic of Zelda 1.. looking through the manuals at those anime style stills. It filled your head with wonder. And the jaw dropping, mind blowing feeling of stepping into Mario 64 for the first time. I spent an HOUR outside the castle just jumping and swimming and crawling! Looking around. SO GOOD.

Raven Perez

I’d like to make a suggestion. Change the name to Emperor BloodLord

Ben, when Mario 64 came out I knew nothing about it, my big brother bought the game when we were on a 2 week trip. So I had the box in my hands and I was just looking at the back of the box feeling that excitement for a week just wondering how crazy the game would be. Will never forget, no need to take some ppl back in time we were there with you. Man getting back home and putting that game in was such a rush.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, Allies! Thank you for all the jolly content that you give us every week, we don't deserve it lol. But I love EZA, so thank you so much

jif52

Yea same... I forget and always happy when it comes up... MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY & SAFE NEW YEAR EZA

Nic

Yassss I always forget we get this earlier, so suddenly 2 days earlier feels like a fantastic EZA Christmas gift!

Baircade

The game is Spanish, though. I believe the intended pronunciation is like "grease".

Brad Grenz

Gris is pronounced 'gree' in french, silent s. Means grey/gray.

What a sweet present! Merry Christmas and happy holidays to all!
